NBI Clearance: "For Travel Abroad" or "For Travel To USA"?

Hey guys, here's another NBI question from me...

I know this may sound trivial, since traveling abroad is basically the same thing as traveling to the USA... since last time I heard the USA was abroad. Anyway, I've read a few posts that stated that our NBI clearance should read "For Travel To USA" rather than "For Travel Abroad" or else we will come across a few problems at the embassy.

I think it's just stupid that we even have to debate this, but I rather be safe than sorry when it comes to our visa interview. It's just, if your fiance(e) already has her NBI clearance you know how pain in the butt they are to get. Pretty much your whole day waiting in line with hundreds/thousands? of applicants and only 2 government workers processing everyone... well that's how it looks like.

Shorter version: Our NBI Clearance states "For Travel Abroad" but came across a few posts that stated that we should have our NBI Clearance state "For Travel To US" because a few people had encountered problems with this issue. Should we redo our NBI Clearance to show "For Travel To US" or are we good with what we have?

New NBI system have few options for Purpose and one of them is Travel to USA. That's what I have on my clearance. Just tell the NBI personnel the specific purpose of the clearance

From the US embassy manila website it says

4. NBI CLEARANCE: Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, "No pending criminal case” or “With derogatory record.” For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is considered valid only for one year from the date it is issued. You may contact NBI at (632) 523-82-31 to 38. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.

So I think yours is just fine. Although mine has "for Travel U.S.A." as when the NBI asked me for my purpose, i said needed for my interview in US embassy. then they put that on my clearance.

That's what I was thinking since the NBI asked my fiancee on her purpose, she stated it was for her fiancee visa intervew at the US Embassy. They simply put "For Travel Abroad on her NBI Clearance. It even states on their website "For Travel Abroad Purposes" lol

I've seen many posts where they had "For Travel Abroad" and had no problems, BUT I guess since there are FEW reports of problems coming up (though I have not seen a post/comment/etc. of any first hand accounts of a problem...) so I'm being a bit cautious. I just don't want my fiancee to waste another day at the NBI office just to correct such a trivial problem.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to wait and see what's the general consensus on here... so hopefully we have more people who had no problems as well.

I would really like to hear from someone who actually did encounter a problem due to this... I just find it hard to believe that someone at the US Embassy would make such a big deal over a simple wording that basically means the same thing. Their website even states that NBI clearances should be for "Traveling Abroad Purposes"... Doh.

My NBI Clearance shows: For Travel to US.. I was interviewed last Friday ( October 28, 2011 ) and fortunately, I was approved for Immigrant Visa.. I've heard last Friday that if your NBI Clearance is 6 months already, they will ask you new Clearance though it is valid for 1 year.. GODBLESS

Per US State Department

The green NBI certificate annotated for travel abroad is the correct certificate. Other colors are for local use only.

Hey Tahoma,

Someone mentioned it on one of my NBI Clearance questions and I saw a post mentioning that the NBI clearance should state Travel to US. I haven't come across anyone who actually had a problem, but a few people mentioning that some "people" had problems. So I made this to clear things up.
