if you have a Greencard---you won't have a USA passport, lol Yes Cdn passport. I guess you could have a passport from another country!

[/quot

I was confused as to why they would want my CDN Passport on U.S. entry if I showed my GC to get back into the U.S.

I do realize not being a U.S citizen leaves me without a U.S. Passport

Some POE officers ask to see ur passport as well, some do not. When I was a Perm resident, on 1 occasion I handed just my greencard over to the POE officer, and he wasn't pleased, lol was a real jerk about seeing my passport! Like everything else--all depends on the POE officer.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Canada asked for your US GC? Weird....I've never even been asked by the Canadian guys what my status is in the US....frankly - is it really any of their business - all they need to know is that I have a valid Canadian passport, right?

Canada customs whats to see your GC to confirm your status inthe US thus to determine if you are a non-resident for customs purposes. If you can't prove you have status in the US then you will be treated as a resident of Canada and anything you are bring into Canada that was purchased in the US will be taxed accordingly as well if you are driving a US plated vehicle you will NOT be able to proceed into Canada driving a US vehicle. So, yes, it is our business to ask for you GC! Sure you will be allowed to continue in to Canada as a Canadian citizen but your stuff won't be.

Sometimes it's just a power trip. I mean, I don't look like a flipping terrorist, but I guess they come in all shapes & sizes!!

Um yah, they do come in all shapes in sizes. Terrorist can be homegrown boys like Timothy McVeigh. What about drug couriers and child pornographers? Can you tell me what one of them look like? If your an expert at picking them out then maybe you should be doing the job and saving the world.

Yah, this statement is kind of touchy for me and it really irks me when I get the "what, do I look like a terrorist or something?" Last "terrorist" suspect I had was a 65 year old caucasion US citizen that was working on his collection of gas mask, chemical suits, and Ak47's and was really not liking the government. Just something to think about next time before anyone thinks about making such a statement.

((((Neiks)))))

Yeah, I can imagine that it has got to start wearing on you when you're only trying to do your job. I think the lack of understanding of the position/process, combined with the really super rude and arrogant officers that we've all run into at some point or another, has a lot to do with the problem. Not to mention the intimidation factor. It's like being pronounced guilty when you're innocent and feeling quite helpless/hopeless about it. People start imagining all kinds of things and their imaginations sometimes carry them away. Especially when they're not used to crossing back and forth quite regularly. I remember when I was growing up it was nothing to pop over to the US and vice versa. It was like crossing the street. All those horrible events and stupid criminally-minded people later and now we all feel the pressure. :(

People forget to realize that POE officials on any countries border have to make a decision based on their communication and evidence you providse! And they see 100's of people each shift. Its a tough job! and quite often they don't get the respect they deserve---so guess what, you want to be a jerk to them, your going to lose, lol

And sure some may be rude, but in many cases they are probably trying to maintain an authority posture, and yes a bit imitation factor! They are not suppose to be ur buddy. They have an important job to do. Like they say, walk a mile in someone else shoes, before making a judgement! lol How many idiots have come before them and tried to sneak stuff in, been lied to, etc etc Or even to the extreme--terrorist!! How would you feel as a POE guard knowingly you let in a terrorist that caused loss of life?? Pretty damn crappy! Like Neiks says they come in all shapes ,sizes, colors, religions, etc etc!! They best not give me any hassle on Monday When I cross over to Sask!! lol

When I am going back to Canada and then returning to the US I have always just tucked my green card into my Canadian passport. Never had any issues. I figure going into Canada if I am driving a car with NJ plates but just show a Canadian passport they might wonder what's up.

One week to go and I'll be heading north...YAY!

My 2030 mile trip from DC to Saskatoon went extremely well. No traffic at all, very little road construction. Cdn POE officer asked a few basic questions, didnt care about my dog!! First Timmies in Estevan--2 XL then--and another XL in Weyburn!! Now in Calgary, and off to Kamloops tomorrow!

And I must admit, prices for many things do seem a bit more $$$ here. I bought some tire dressing stuff in VA at $3.99, and in Stoon it was $8.99! So nice to be home again!!

airfare this yr has really jumped!! I used to be able to fly from DC to Stoon in the mid to high 400's! I looked about 2 months out and airfare was in the high $700's!! Hopefully they come down for you marilyn! I read an article a few weeks back, that one should be constantly checking prices as they can briefly dip in price!!
