Our first interview was approximately 10 minutes long and was humiliating at best. Interviewed with assistant consulate in open stall with other applicants sitting there to hear all. She denied us on the premise that original marriage papers were not provided. Which in actuality had been with the packet. I explained what procedure we used was from directions online - she said they don't use that procedure, so we were denied. We were to supply them with appropriate paperwork and then it was to be reviewed that same day and approval would be sent out. Not having the funds to remain in hotel in Vancouver, we flew back to Calgary to wait for answer. Most frustrating experience we have ever experienced. Couldn't leave fiance in Calgary to return home because at this point I was nearing nervous breakdown. Daughter was going to fly to Calgary to assist my return to US. Finally after daughters contacted my US congressman. His office had number to get through to Head Consulate, he claimed to just be approving paperwork as he spoke to congressman. Took several days to get paperwork back to us so we were finally able to get flight to US. Should have followed US attorny's advice to just have finance stay here without all of the political bullcrap, but didn't want to have to look over our shoulder at every turn. This also would have meant that fiance would never have been able to return to US if he had emergency with family still in Canada. Went the correct way, but was most agonizing experience ever. Did have a beautiful wedding in spite of trauma. Both families were there and the pain was behind us. Nearing our first anniversary and happy as can be. Follow directions completely, as we had, but be prepared for harassment and disappointment along the way. God bless all of you in your journey! | 2010-01-04 |
