Iryna & Robert K1 San Antonio TX 2020-08-07 2021-01-08 2021-05-18 2021-05-18 Yes No 2021-05-26 My wife does not speak English to any significant degree, although she has been taking ESL classes and I am trying to give her some practice. Since the beginning of the relationship we have communicated almost entirely in Russian. To some degree, it was just easier for me to speak in Russian than to force her to learn English quickly. So, USCIS says we must have an interpreter available by phone for the interview, I am not allowed to translate for her. I have two friends lined up to translate as needed. We get to USCIS and they DO have a Russian interpreter for her available by phone. Maybe if she only spoke Ukrainian it would have been different, but the USCIS interpreter handled the USCIS agent's questions. The ONLY question the agent asked her that she did not know the answer was "Where was your husband born, in what city?" She only knew Texas but not the city, and was kind of embarrassed about it. And scolded me for not reminding or telling her before we went to the interview. The agent gave her a "pass" anyway, and said we would get the Green Card in a week or so. 2025-02-09
