Review Topic: K1 Visa

We arrived at 8:30 and stood in line for 20 minutes until moved to K visa line. Fiancé entered with beneficiary showing passport. We organized our documents in the order they said to and were directed towards a long room at the back. We waited for over an hour to be called. At the first window a lady took all of our documents. We waited another hour to be called back up. The man at the second window was somber and mumbled. He never smiled and he denied or sent to administrative processing everyone who came to his window that day. He asked us a few questions about us - How did you meet?, Have you ever lived in another country? Birthday and age etc. He gave us a green slip of paper (221g) saying that we needed to bring the I-864 document for our joint sponsor. He said this was necessary because not very many people have a joint sponsor for K1 visas at the consulate (which isn't true). I had emailed the embassy the day before asking which financial document I should bring, I134 or I864 and they said I134 which is what I understood is required for K1 visas. It was very frustrating. We put all the materials together and brought them back to the processing center across from the embassy that same day. We already had tickets to fly to the US in two days so we were stuck in Lima in temporary housing until they approved the visa. I emailed the embassy two weeks later for an update and they replied only with instructions on how to turn in the materials we brought two weeks ago. At that point I contacted my senators to see if they could do anything. They worked hard to contact the embassy but ultimately got little information and I'm not sure if they helped at all but it made me feel better while stuck waiting. Two more weeks I spent checking for any updates and emailing the embassy until they approved the visa on April 14th. That same day it was ready for pick up and we left for the US one day later. It was a horrible experience. I felt powerless and anxious the whole time, we spent hundreds of dollars getting stuck in Lima and no one could tell us when we could leave or even why we were asked for that additional document that is for AOS.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Everything good with our interview. The petitioner was allowed to get inside of the embassy just by showing her passport. NO}o phones or anything allowed inside the embassy, they have a service that costs 10 soles for small sealed bags and 20 for the bigger ones. Sadly our case was put under administrative review since had to perform further exams for the medical exam. Questions were: Where do you meet her? What was she doing where she was in Peru? Where does she lived? What she does for a living? Have I been in the US before? If we had any plans once I get into the US? Overall the officer that interview us was fairly friendly and even made some small talk about my fiance studying in the same city that she did.

Documents (for K1 visa especificaly) that they asked for at the moment of approaching the window for the first time:

-Partida de nacimiento certificada por RENIEC (Birth certificate certified by RENIEC)
-Antecedentes policiales, penales y judiciales. (Police, criminal and judicial records)
-Antecedentes policiales de cualquier pais en el que se haya vivido por mas de 6 meses despues de los 16 años. (Police records from any country in which you have lived for more than 6 months after the age of 16.)
-Documentos financieros I-134 con firma (I-134 financial document signed)
-Documentos financieros 1040 2020 en adelante (1040 financial documents 2020 onwards) (They only took the most recent one for 2021 in our case)
-Documentos financieros W2's 2020 en adelante (W2 financial documents 2020 onwards) (They only took the most recent one for 2021 in our case)
-IRS Tax return transcript
-Waiver (Si aplica) (If applicable)
-Examen medico en sobre cerrado (si fue entregado) Medical examination in a sealed envelope (if delivered)
-Copia de pasaporte del peticionario (Copy of petitioner's passport)

Opcional:

-Los 2 talonarios de pago mas recientes (The most recents 2 paystubs) (Since we did not have the recent IRS Tax return transcript.)
-Copias de todo por si acaso (Copies of everything just in case)

Visa Approved! 🎉🎊 Lima, Peru 🇵🇪
They asked me these questions:
1. What is your fiancé's name?
2. When was he born?
3. Where was he born?
4. When we met and how?
5. When was the last time we saw each other?
6. What is his job?
That’s all 🙂
