Review Topic: K1 Visa

I dont even know where to start. We arrived at 7:15. Our appointment was at 7:30. Now the petitioner is not allowed to enter for interview because of covid. He was the first to be called. It was very empty because they are not processing visas at this time. They said it will take about 4 hours for first time applying for a visa. So I went back with his sister to her house. Around 9:30 we received a call for me to come to the embassy for a interview. I am caucasian. He is Honduran and does not speak English. the lady called me for a interview alone. She wanted to hold the interview in spanish to see if I can speak spanish. Which I am able to speak spanish but not fluent. She eventually let me have the interview in english. she asked me all the same questions my fiance was asked. How we met. Which was through his sister. She wanted to know if his sister connected us together. Our age is 10 years apart. She wanted to know if there was a problem with it she asked when was the first time we had sexual intercourse if it was day or night. she asked what kind of protection I am using. If I wanted more kids. If we had plans for a honeymoon. why I only stay for 2 days at a time. I answered everythhing honestly. she asked if I had met his family. It was a long list of questions that he had been asked also. Then she told me to go wait outside the room with my fiance. Then about 30 minutes later. A man called us to another office. And we see the passport with all his paperwork in front of him. Our first thought was they were returning the passport. But that is when he notified us we were approved. a very nerve wracking experience for me.

Everything happened quickly. Our original appointment was cancelled last year, we were told that although the Department of State doesn’t recommend travel to Honduras( we were in the US, with approved I-601A) they would schedule her if she had her documents and medical exam. We travelled back on 2/22. Don’t forget your COVID test and precheck with Honduran immigration if you travel back.
Medical exam was done on 2/24. We were originally told that appointments were taking 5-6 weeks, but of course on 3/2 they called us to come for an interview on 3/4 😆 . So we rushed back to Teg, and showed up for the interview.
Because of COVID I was not allowed in with my wife. They may let spouses in if there are children, but I was not allowed. Wife’s interview was quick, asked
Asked about Date entered, date of marriage, asked if she had tattoos, asked if she was ever arrested, if we had kids and if we were ever married before. Gave us a Felicidades paper, and a stack of papers that I sent to the NVC which they already had. Everyone was professional and respectful.

My husband’s experience was extremely quick and efficient. I was unable to attend due to COVID and short notice. My husband arrived 30 minutes early. He was told to wait outside until called in. Once he was called in, he presented his passport and passport picture. A nice young man greeted my husband and asked him about 5 questions altogether. 1) When did you get married? 2) Who is your sponsor and co-sponsors? 3) How long have you and your wife been together? 4) Have you ever been to the US before? 5) What is your foreseen address in the US? My husband then said Chicago and the man told my husband to prepare for the winter as he is also from Chicago. He also asked where in Honduras my husband lives/is from. They then chatted about Copan Ruinas. He then told my husband congratulations and that his visa was approved. My husband said the whole interview was more like a casual conversation and that the man interviewing him was extremely kind and respectful. My husbands interview was at 10:00AM and he walked out of the embassy at 10:15AM.

Overall a very pleasant experience for my fiance. He was notably very nervous when he arrived, but the consulate staff were respectful and pleasant. The guard did a security check and he was directed to the immigrant visa line and took a seat to arrange his papers. When his name was called they took his fingerprints and asked for his papers. Because of Covid, the DPI of Honduras is really backed up on providing police clearance. They allowed him to take the interview anyway and advised him to provide the receipt to prove that he paid for the police clearance even though he did not have it on hand (the consulate member said she would pick it up at another date). The woman that interviewed him was friendly and only really paid attention to the affidavits of support. She was not going to approve the visa when she saw how much money I make a year (the petitioner) but then she saw that we had a joint sponsor (my mother) and then she continued. He was asked how we met, if I (the petitioner) had any children, and when he was planning on bring is son into the USA. He was then asked to undress in another room because he has tattoos and they need to be checked over for gang affiliation. He was then brought back out and congratulated that his visa was approved and welcomed to the USA.

My Visa experience with my Fiance was a fairly easy one. No surprise questions or rude behaviour. The best and most shocking part was that i was able to be with my fiance the whole time so if you get a chance to go with your fiance for this interview i highly suggest it as it was a great comfort for us.
