Review Topic: K1 Visa

I was able to come to Germany to stand by Torsten while he was in the interview. Our medical appointment was at 730am, which took about an hour and a half. There were about 4 other people who were having their visa medical exams for the USA as well, so we were able to share stories and experiences while we waited. There was a problem with Torsens exam: he did not have his MMR vaccination which is required. The doctor sent us away with instructions to get the vaccination the next morning at Torstens house doctor and fax the confirmation back to the doctor in Frankfurt to complete the medical exam processing. We were at the doctor about 1.5 hours.

Our interview was immediately after the doctor at 930 am. We arrived at 920, were given the ticket, and went through security. Allow extra time for this if possible. Our number was called and we were given instructions to purchase postage and arrange our documents in a certain order. A while later, about 30 minutes or so, we were called to another window with our documents, and the gentleman reviewed our I134, supporting evidence, birth certificates, police records, decided what he needed to keep and what to return to us. He took what he wanted and sent us back to wait again. About 45 minutes after this, we were called to the window to speak with the Consular. She was very friendly, like a person who really likes her job. We were both a bit nervous but she put us at ease. She confirmed that we were getting the K1 visa, took Torstens fingerprints, and asked if I was the American Fiance. Then she explained a few things about the process and asked if we understood. Then she asked Torsten, tell me something about your relationship, how did you meet. Torsten, who is a talker when he is nervous, walked her through when we met, our first date, when i moved out of germany, his visit to the usa, etc, etc, etc. She said ok, that is good enough! She smiled and said ok you will get your passport in a week after we get the medical. I confirmed that we did get the visa, and she said yes. Then Tor ask her if she wanted to see our wedding invitation, because he wanted to show her. She laughed and said sure! She was extremely nice, and I could tell her that each time she can say yes to a couple in love seeking their K1 visa, it makes her day to make other people happy. The whole time at the consulate was 2 hours, with medical, 4 hours.

Torsten went first thing this morning to take care of his vaccination and have his doctor fax the last paper back to the doctor in Frankfurt. At this point, we have confirmed that the drs office in Frankfurt has received the fax and will be sending all to the Consulate in the next 24 hours.

Yea!

It was super easy! Not really any reason to be nervous... even though that is always easy to say when it's over, I know
There was long line outside but I went to the immigration visa line, which was a lot shorter. (i was told to do so)
I got a number and had to wait to go to the security window. The guy looked at me funny cause my passport picture is a little old
I went in and had a seat on the far left. When I went to the first window I had to hand in my payment receipt and sit back down. After about 45 minutes I was called to another window. Strangely it was the same person than at the first window. She wanted some more papers (police certificate, etc.), explained the whole process to me and told me that the consul is going to call me up in a little bit. She didn't even want our co-sponsor papers even though my fiance does not make enough money (at least we thought so) but because they had his employment letter they were fine.
When my number was called again I went up to a window with the nicest lady behind it. She smiled the whole time and was very friendly! I was even able to ask her a couple of questions!!!!
She just asked me how we met, how we started dating, what my fiance does for a living and what I plan on doing!
That was all. Then she said that they will print my visa and get it to me ASAP!!! They even had my medical results already even though I only had it 2 days before!
My interview was on Friday and I received my visa the following Thursday!

So guys, relax!!!! be prepared but there is no real reason to be nervous!! Everybody in Frankfurt is super helpful and very friendly!!!!
Good luck!

It was so easy and fast. I was out of there after 1,5 hours. My interview was scheduled for 8am and I have been there about 20 minutes before. I expected it to be harder than for a J1 internship visa but it wasn't. Just asked me where and how my fincé and I met, what he is doing for living and what kind of job I would like to get in the States. That's it.

Easy as pie! Here is the review my fiance sent me after he finished the interview: "Had to wait around and hand in various certificates etc whilst they processed the application, but in the end they asked over the counter only where we met, and what you and I do for a living..so in less than 2 mins “interview” they said the visa will be processed – subject to fingerprint check..which has always been clear when travelling to the us…so they will mail to me in the next days …hooray…"

Review Topic: K1 Visa

SO,we had the third Interview appointment yesterday. Our case was rather unusual..so when I had the firts Interview on April 9th last year I attented the Interview without my 7 year old,so I had to come back with him 5 days later on the 14th of April 2008.We wee granted the Visa's and received them on the 23rd of April.
Due to family related problems we could not use those Visa's and Frankfurt was nice enough to give us time until April 21st,2009 to get hings in order and re submit our paperwork and have a new Interview.
So we re submitted our papers in December by Fax (because I was in the US with my son, visiting my man) and got a requested expediated Interviw appointment for January 21st.
We got there yesterday (my son and me) and everybody was extremly polite ,friendly and in a good mood.
The lady at Window 20 asked how we were doing and whether we were able to solve our problems and said that sometimes it is better to come and apply for a Visa again then making such a huge step as in moving not truly knowing that that's what you want.So ya she was being very understanding and very nice.
The Consul herself was a young lady which was joking with me and even explained to my son why his fingerprints were not needed and when he was still disappointed she did "take" his too just so he would be happy. She as well was extremely understanding of our situation and told me that on the pictures we already look like a family .She thought my man was cute and loved our pictures.
We are allowed to come up to Frankfurt and pick up our papers either tomorrow or on Monday and so we can fly out on Tuesday.
All in all,
outstabding staff in Frankfurt !!!!!!! Extremly nice, understanding and polite.
