**Since he had to travel we planned for a 2 day interview due to experiences from previous Ecuador VJ members.***

First of all, I arrived early at 7am 1 hour before my 8am appointment and there was already a line. There were a lot of people for tourist visas and other types of visas, so I lined up. There was security present outside. When I entered they made me remove everything they checked to make sure I didn't bring in anything other than the requested documents.

Once I entered they asked me if I applied for a tourist visa or for residence visa? I said for residence visa fiance K1 and they took me to a place with a woman at a window asking for each document. I gave her my passport, birth registration and divorce registration. She asked who is petitioning for you? They didn't ask me for financial support, or for other evidence of relationship. They told me to sit in the waiting room because they’re going to call you for the interview later.

I took an oath and gave my fingerprints and had the interview on the spot with an American man. It was more like a conversation.

When did you meet?
When did you get engaged?
Tell me about your relationship.
Who does your fiance live with and where?
Is the language barrier difficult?
How much does your fiance earn?

He said "Well, congratulations Welcome to the United States!" They gave me a blue approval paper and a pamphlet on domestic violence and said in 10 days you will be able to pick up your passport. I said thank you very much! I was ready to cry. They returned all the documents to me. I was outside the consulate at 10:30am and did not have to return the next day.

The consulate in Ecuador is still doing a two day interview process as of March 2023. She was the only person allowed into the consulate for the interview.

Day 1: My fiance arrived at 12 PM for her 12:30 interview. Once inside she submitted all the requested documents and they took her fingerprints. She was asked if she was single and free to marry, if she had ever lived in any other country outside of Ecuador, and if she had any kids or had been previously married. They then gave her a copy of the original I129F I submitted to USCIS and gave her an 8:45 AM appointment the next day, but told her to be there by 8:30. She was out of the consulate at 1:30.

Day 2: She arrived at 7:40 AM to a much longer line. There were a lot of people with the same appointment time so the wait was longer. We've been together for over 10 years so the first question they asked why we haven't gotten married yet and what made us decide to marry now. They then asked how we met, how many times I have visited her in Ecuador, how long were my visits, how many times has she visited the US on a tourist visa, and to explain how I proposed to her. The asked if she or I had been married before, and also asked if we had any kids together. The officer then approved her and gave a small paper noting the approval. She was out of the consulate at 10:20.

Overall very pleasant and timely experience! Very well organized and short waiting times. I was unable to attend and he went on his own. Just be sure to have all your documents ready and organized in a way that is quick for you to locate them!

Still doing a 2 day interview. This is what my fiance reported to me about the 2 days.

Day 1: Arrived early, took awhile to get in as many others showed up without the needed documents and slowed down the line. No one was particularly pleasant, but it all went smoothly. Asked to give various civil documents and proof of our continued relationship. Was given a pamphlet to take and look over, told what time to be back the next day for the interview, and given a complete copy of our original application to "look over". He was only asked who petitioned him and if he had a daughter. Neither the I-134 nor any financial documents were requested. Took about an hour.

Day 2: Arrived early and waited about 45 minutes for his interview once inside. Got a bit nervous as he watched a LOT of people get denied/not approved on the spot for tourist and resident visas before his turn as you can hear and see all the interviews taking place. Interview was very conversational and lasted less than 5 minutes. Interviewer (Andrew) was quite nice and very polite. Interview started in Spanish and switched to English after he asked my fiance were I live now in the US and my fiance responded with the name of my city and state in an American accent (he is also a native English speaker). After that the last few questions were in English before he said Welcome! and approved my fiance. The status in CEAC changed to Approved about an hour after his interview was over!

Questions asked (though all asked conversationally):
(Spanish)
Who is petitioning you?
Where did you meet?
I saw in your file you met on Tinder?
Was she living here?
Why did she live here?
How did all that happen? (Explained why I lived there 8 years before we met)
Where did she move after she lived in Ecuador?
(Switched to English after this question and interviewer seemed to relax quite a bit and smiled/had a pleasant face for the rest of the questions)
Are you going to get married there? I hear it's nice. (Meaning the city he just mentioned I live in)
Did you propose to her?
Do you have plans for the wedding?
And: Welcome!

Never asked to see our I-134 or any financial documents. Did not ask for anything additional on Day 2. Gave back papers given on day 1 and a white/blue paper saying he was approved and info on passport delivery.

The wait time was about 2.5-3 hours, once it was finally her turn, they asked her what my name was and age, then they proceeded to have her tell them the circumstances of how we met and came to be a couple. The interviewer said “no further questions, your visa has been approved”. Interview took 10 minutes most of the time was spent on waiting. Glad to say this leg of the journey is at its end. Thanks for all the answers from everyone. And good luck to those still waiting!
