Visa interview scheduled for early in the morning. Staff very friendly. Ask a few questions and let Laylai know her visa would be approved. Consulate kept passport to affix the visa. Passport and visa arrived about a week later.
Very good experience!

There was a long line to get into the Embassy, so best to play it safe and arrive 30-45 minutes early to get through security. When my fiancee checked in with the first officer, they asked her for the original application fee payment receipt. Of course, she did not have that b/c we mailed that document to the Embassy with Packet 3 per their instructions. So apparently, the Embassy lost it. We have been careful to make copies of everything we send, so she gave them a copy of the payment receipt, but was then told it would be up to the interviewing officer whether they would accept a copy. So no acknowledgment on their part that they made a mistake in losing the document b/c they had everything else we sent with Packet 3. When she was called up for the interview, the interviewer glanced through her documents, said no problem with the receipt copy, no questions, visa approved. Visa arrived in 7 days to a Bangkok address, so when they say 3-7 days, assume 7 even if you're in Bangkok.

Only three questions asked: 1) How did you two meet; 2) What does he do for a living; 3) Where will you live in the US. After last questioned Ning was informed she was "approved." CO mistakenly returned her passport to her, which of course led to a little bit of a freak out on my part and a sleepless night. Email sent to visabkkiv@state.gov asking what to do next. Email covered the basics: was told she was approved, US tourist VISA stamped stamped “Cancelled Without Prejudice,†and what to do next. Quick response, and she was informed the CO made a mistake, and to mail her passport back to the Embassy.
