My appointment was at 11:30am, as they usually are. I got there by 11am and asked if it was too early to go inside. They told me it was fine and checked that I was on the list. I went through security, where they only kept my phone. They let me go inside with my big purse, which had a water bottle and candy (I really thought they would take those away from me...). They sent me upstairs, where the actual embassy is. There wasn't anybody in the first room, so I awkwardly waited for like 10 seconds as I was unsure what to do. A lady asked me why I was there and handed me a paper with a number (btw they treat k1s as an immigrant visa). They also asked for my passport and attached a thingy to it.
I waited in the next room with maybe 3 more people. I was called shortly after, like 3mins. They checked all my paperwork and handed me all originals I had submitted. This took like 15mins since apparently the heat and hot water are broken and employees are rightfully angry about it ... read complete review

I was not allowed in to the embassy with my spouse because we had a backpack. My spouse reported that some of the interview was conducted in Spanish -- and we are grateful for that since we understand they were under no obligation to do so. My spouse also said that the agents were professional and efficient. I waited outside about 90 minutes from start to finish. Do not bring unnecessary backpacks or bags, these are not allowed in, just try and bring only necessary paperwork. Do bring all original documents and family and wedding or vacation photos (they looked at all photos briefly). We had everything organized and tabbed for easy access in the folder. The agent who asked questions (family/spouse questions, salary, type of job to be had in the U.S., etc.) did not necessarily say my spouse was 'approved' or 'not approved' but simply to expect a package within 10 business days. Experience was overall great and the process went very smooth!
Our case: k1. First marriage for myself (petitioner and US Citizen,) second marriage for my fiance (beneficiary with dual citizenship Spain/Morocco, resident of Spain.)
On the day of the interview, both my fiance and I went to the consulate together. We arrived about 20 minutes early. There was a woman waiting outfront who looked up my fiance's name to check his interview time and looked at both of our passports. She asked to wait just a moment for security to take us inside. Security had us empty our pockets and go through a metal detector. We left our cellphones and a small bag with them, only taking our papers inside with us. When we went inside, there was another woman who asked for my fiance's name, she checked for his interview time and then checked us in. Interview: 21st October, 2017, 11:30 am
I live in Asturias, so I flew that same morning to Madrid for my interview. I took the train (line C1) at the Airport T4 to go to the clinic first to pick my medical exam results. It's an easy 25 minutes ride, with 5 stops to Recoletos, and the price is really cheap (2.70€), so that's the better option if you have the time.
Everyone was professional and nice at the clinic, as usual, and I got my sealed envelope with the results, plus a copy of the lab tests results for my records and also my DS3025, that was pending due to the need of confirming through serology that I was immune to varicella. I was, so the form was marked as complete.
That took less than 5 minutes and then the walk from there to the Embassy is about 25 minutes along preppy Serrano Street.
