This embassy is very responsive to emails. They are thorough and communicate clearly what is needed to be done. As stated-- not a lot of people go through this embassy but it does happen obviously. They handled the documentation expediently once it was received from the NVC. My fiancee went and waited and had questions answered in advance. The other couple ahead of us communicated that Partners In Health was very professional and thorough for health/physical testing and it was great advice! However on the interview one box was left unticked and she had to go back to have it attended to before they would issue the visa. Interview was mainly spent reviewing that all documents were thorough and completed. Ask 3 questions about when she planned to go, how we met and if she knew the weather where she was going. Staff was warm, friendly and pleasant. Visa issued in 5 days of interview.

The consulate in Malawi is very friendly. I wrote the mm an email asking if I could be there for the interview with my husband, and they responded within hours. When it comes to response time, they are amazing.
When arriving at the consulate, make sure that you do not have your cellphone or any type of electronic device. Make sure that all your documents are properly placed in a binder. You will be taken in a room and they will ask for your civil documents. Make sure that you have them. Then, you will wait to see the consulate.
Overall, the consulate asked simple question and they were as follows...
1. How old are you?
2. How did you meet your wife?
3. Where does your wife stay?
4. Have you or your wife been married before?
5.When do you want to leave?
After that, the consulate informed him that his visa had been approved. They kept his passport and told him to come back the following Thursday in order to pick up his bisa. I... read complete review

I see there isn't much information here, so I'll add what I can for those in the future. The Malawi consulate is pretty much like anything else in Malawi. Slow, but functional. We had pretty good luck with everything so far, but here are a few things that might be helpful to know:
1. It's helpful if the Malawian calls the embassy (stock up on airtime first) and asks if the petition has arrived, post-NOA2 and NVC notices. I was in Malawi and didn't have much phone/email when the petition arrived in Malawi, so Andrew called once or twice a week just to check up on things.
2. Once it does arrive, you'll have to go to the embassy and pick it up. There are only certain times you can do this. For example, we went on a Thursday and were told I wasn't allowed in after 11am on Thursday, as it wasn't a US citizen day. Andrew, however, got his packet with no issue. Also, no one works at the embassy on Fridays. Like, no one is there, nothing happens.
3. When you've complete... read complete review

Review Topic: General Review

This review is for the Embassy/Consulate in Lilongwe, Malawi. I think that I am one of the few people on this board to have gone through this embassy, so I had no information to compare our experience with. This embassy seemed to operate a little differently than many of the others I have read about. After our NOA2 petition was approved and sent to the embassy, we never received a 'Packet 3' in the post as they claimed they had sent out. After several weeks, my fiance had to go to the embassy in person to request it again and pick it up. The packet contained the forms to be filled out by him, the information needed from me, and the medical forms he needed to take with him to his doctors appointments. They wanted *everything* returned in person, and all at one time before scheduling an interview - all of the forms, affadavits of support and supporting documents, medicals, birth certificate, payment (made at the embassy), proof of relationship, etc. They then spent another few weeks revi... read complete review
