Review Topic: K1 Visa

***I am writing this review based on my fiancé experience I was not present at the interview but I will be as detailed as I can be based on what she told me. ***

Her interview time was at 1:15pm she left the hotel (hotel Palmira $25/night) at 12:00pm and asked the trustworthy taxi guy (she met him when she first went to tegus) to have her stuff (clothes, bag, phone) in his car. He was fine with that. When she arrived at the embassy and the guards asked her what time was her appointment. She confirmed 1:15pm and they told her to wait in line. She fiancé said she waited outside in the hot burning sun for an hour before a lady with a guard came out the embassy. She called people based on visa types and organized them in order. The lady then called the k1 visas which my fiancé said there were 4 in total including herself. She said once inside they passed by a metal detector and did normal airport procedures and then were directed to a special k1 window where they took fingerprints and asked her for most documents and evidence required in this link.

After asking for her documents they told her to sit down. My fiancé said she waited about 20 minutes then they started calling the k1 visas for interview in order. Once it was her turned she went inside a room with a window and a lady asked her for relationship evidence (my fiancé had a whole album of photos, money receipts, and my airline tickets when I visited in December) The interview lady then asked her the following questions

What’s your fiancées name?
How and when did we met?
Had she had any problems with the law?

They asked her to present the other information that she needed to bring to the interview (again from the link above) and then she said ‘congratulations your visa has been approved’ they gave her a sheet of paper regarding domestic violence and her rights in the United States and another sheet regarding how she can pick up her passport.

My Fiancé was actually offended that they didn’t ask more in-depth question or that they didn’t even interrogate her about our relationship. Hahaha she says she was ready for anything that came at her. (we practice interview questions and she even memorized DOBs, Names, Cellphones of my whole family)

My fiancé said she was super nervous but was actually pretty-fast and easy. She also commented that the lady interviewing was very cheerful and nice. The staff was nice and didn’t have any issues at all.

Please feel free to look at my timeline for more information and detail about our journey.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Our experience was as below. Most of what you read in prior posts is correct and current, so I won't repeat much of what is already written. I used the information on our 8/1/2017 interview and it was current and useful.

The files are worked in a stack so arriving earlier than 6:30 - 6:45 offers no advantage. Everyone goes in together and the people working cases have no idea who arrived when. I saw them pulling a file off of a stack for each new person.

Some things not mentioned:

* We received non-compliant visa photos from Indio fotos the first time around in San Pedro Sula (yellow background-untrained person did it). There are places in Tegucigalpa that provide them, but due to travel complications we were in Tegucigalpa on Sunday when all of them were closed. Saturday we got some in San Pedro Sula at the last minute after all (some places take hours to process them). We were panicking over this on Friday. But...one of the studios was there at the line in front of the embassy. Not sure if they did them there and then on the street or took you two blocks to the studio, which could have been done in a few minutes. Something that's good to know if you find yourself in that position. I would check that they'll be there if you think you'll need them...not sure if you can depend on them being there each and every day and how much time you'll need. I think it was Angel Fotos, but not 100% sure...post a question if you want me to double check or if anyone remembers better than I do.

* I think someone said there are no public restrooms. There are.

* We all went in together, it is very true that kids (under say 12 or so) are processed first, with good reason. Many toddlers there who were getting fidgety.

* I got conflicting information on whether the petitioner could go in Tegucigalpa. Yes, you can go and are welcomed. Early on, my husband told me not to bother with the trip, but was so nervous on the day, that it probably avoided a nervous breakdown during the wait (though it went smoothly.

* Some people mentioned going back for the visa. Not sure if it depends on where you live now, etc. We only had the option of getting it sent to a mail service place. We were told it was approved at the interview (as others were) and the email saying it was shipped came the next morning.

*From the reactions of people leaving, it seems that by the time you get to the interview stage, you are in good shape to be approved, or it may have just been the group we were with. Only one person left the interview room after being in for a much longer period than others, and then sat back in the waiting area with us and then went to another room, came back and was still sitting when we left, and we were near the bottom of the stack.

*We were definitely in the last 25% of the people there to be done. It was all spent sitting. Showing the documents in the first phase was about 10 minutes. The interview was 10 - 15 minutes. We left a little before 11:30AM.

*We are a same sex couple, for others who might be going, this fact was not ever mentioned in the process...we were treated no differently than anyone else.

Staff was all courteous and easy to work with.

Was not at my husband's interview but here is what he told me:

His appointment was at 7am. He arrived around 6:30 and there was two lines.

When entering the building around 7am he sat down and waited for for his name to be called. When called he proceeded to a room where he was instructed how to put in order the papers that were going to be requested. Sat back down and later was called to a window where there was a lady who asked for medical, police certificate, birth certificate, passport photos and proof of relationship. Then was told to have a seat and they would call him for his interview.

Close to being the last one again he was called back by a man who asked him:
When did you meet?
When did you meet in person?
Do you have any children?
Ages?
Was your wife married before?
Have you been in trouble with the police?
When did you enter the USA?

Long long pause while the man typed. Then he said: sorry for your wait and you are approved and can collect your passport in about 10 days. Welcome to the US!!!

He said everyone was polite.
