Here’s everything I learned from my fiancé about his interview at the consulate.
His appointment was for 8am on Thursday, Nov 6, 2025. He took the train (from his town near Munich) to Frankfurt the day before his appointment, as many people on VisaJourney had advised. He stayed in a nearby (overpriced) hotel and had some quality hotel sauna time to relax, and then a nice free breakfast in the morning before heading to the embassy. If you like saunas, it might be nice to make a trip of it to relax a little.
I reminded him to stay hydrated all day to keep his mind sharp for the next day!
He arrived at the embassy at 7:20am thinking he was awkwardly early (and it was cold out), but there was already a “sea” of people outside. He made it through security and to his seat in the waiting area right at 8.

My husband's interview date was October 14, 2025 at 7:30am. We arrived at the consulate at 7:15am and a line was already formed by the time we got there. Thankfully, they have outdoor heaters to help keep you warm as it was chilly that morning.
They had 2 windows open so the line moved pretty fast. When we arrived at the window outside the consulate, they asked for his interview letter, DS-260 confirmation page and both our passports. They returned our passports, gave me a pass card to get in and issued him a number. We made our way through security, which was like going through airport security. We didn't bring anything with us to the consulate other than our folder of legal documents and passports so security was a breeze for us.
Another man ahead of us, brought in his cell phone and security gave him a slip and told him he could get his phone back when he left.

My appointment was for 8:30. I arrived around 15 minutes early. A long line had already formed in front of the security checkpoint by then. To get in, I needed to show my DS-160 confirmation page and passport at the security window. I then received a number and instructions to take a seat at windows 15 - 21.
There was an additional line by the entrance, but getting through security didn't take very long. My advice: Bring only your paperwork, if you can. People in line with backpacks were told in no uncertain terms that packed clothing items and such cannot be brought into the consulate. If you're carrying more on you than what is absolutely necessary, you might add more stress to an already stressful appointment.
I've read in reviews from other consulates that mobile phones are sometimes allowed in. This is not the case in Frankfurt. Any electronic devices must be handed over at the security checkpoint and you get a receipt to retrieve them later on.
