After 376 days of waiting, I finally had my interview today! Got there at 6:45 to avoid the line, and was done by 9:30. Very friendly people, beautiful view from the waiting room. They didn't ask to see my photos or chat log. Just a couple questions, where did we meet, how long have we been married, was it a small wedding, what does he do for work, how did we communicate ect.

Then, those words we are all waiting for: "I'm going to approve your visa, congratulations!"

I cried happy, relieved tears and happily left the building. Finally, I get to start my life with my amazing, fantastic husband

Montreal Consulate Review: September 11th 2013

I was travelling from the GTA and decided that I would take Porter Airlines and try it out. I flew with my Father who decided this would be a nice last father son trip for a long while. Getting into the airport and onto the 747 Bus into the down town was very easy $9. The Hotel we decided on was the Holiday Inn Select on rue Vigor. I had stayed there before and knew the quality of the hotel. Also it's a short walk to the consulate and right across from a Metro station. We took the 747 and got off at the first Metro and took it to the hotel $3. The hotel was $124/ night with late check out and bag storage, breakfast for a fee.

At night the hotel is a two minuet walk up the hill to old fort (Montreal) with many bars and restaurants to eat. We had something early on, walked around some shops and was in bed by 10pm.

The Morning:
I woke up at 5:30 (i'm a guy) and began to get ready. ... read complete review

I never believed other VJ members when they said the interview was the easiest part, but it truly, truly was.

You spend about 2 hours all in all waiting for about 15 minutes of interview. If you have all your documents in order like they ask, and no red flags, you have nothing to worry about.

They asked:

Where my fiance and I met...
When did we meet...
How often have we visited each other...
How do we stay in touch otherwise...
What my fiance does for a living....
Would his family be coming to wedding...

"Congratulations, I am approving this visa!"

Best advice: GO STAND IN LINE EARLY!!!!! My fiance and got to the doors at 6:30am and we were second in line. Doors open at 7:30am. We were seen at 8:15am and out the doors, approval in hand, by 8:45am. When we were leaving, the number of people in the waiting room had tripled so it is totally worth your while to stand outside in t... read complete review

Our Interview was on Friday September the 13th, we arrived in Montreal on Wednesday night and stayed at the Days Inn downtown. It was a relatively nice hotel, they are in the middle of renovations currently. It is a 10 minute walk from the consulate, as well as 10 minutes from Old Montreal and a huge shopping mall. If you have the luxury we recommend touring this beautiful city, I was so happy that we had a full day to walk around and see the sights.

Friday morning we left the hotel at 6:45am and made our way to the consulate. We were 2nd in line to a VJ member who just wrote his review before this one! We chatted about this insane process and talked about how thankful we were for VJ! Since we knew every detail about the procedures at the consulate it was a piece of cake! They let us in at 7:30am, didn't ask for ID, Loomis, or the interview letter! I was shaking and nervous and prepared to give them the documents! Once inside we went through a very laid back security che... read complete review

Well the big day was today and I'm ecstatic to say that I'm approved. The interview wasn't a smooth one, but thanks to VJ and knowing to be overly prepared, end result was approval.

From airport:
As some have already mentioned, taking a cab from the airport will cost you $40. A cheaper way is to take the 747 bus, which only costs $9. It's meant to take luggage, so it's not a hassle at all to take it with all of your bags. Just google it before you leave home, to ensure you know the route and that your hotel is walking distance from Rene Levesque (which is the main road that the bus goes down).

Hotel:
I wanted something very cheap, so I picked Hotel des Arms on St. Dominique and Rue Ontario (Latin Quarter area). It was $70/night for Tues-Fri. Wifi is included, but at peak times, it's slower than dial-up. Continental breakfast was also included (toast, bagels, cereal, and croissants). It's about a 20mins walk to Old Montreal and about 20mins... read complete review
