Where do I begin!?

Let's start with the important surprises:

1. Bring $10 cash in the form of a $10 bill - just in case for some unknown reason the agent taking your documents decides your photos don't look recent enough. Mine were less than 6 months old, but apparently I changed my hair length and colour (which I didn't - I have had long highlighted hair for about 2 decades!) and there was no date stamped or written on the back of the photos, so I had to run to the basement floor and use the photo booth to take new photos in the middle of handing in my docs. A bit stressful! I don't know what I would have done if I didn't happen to have a ten with me!

2. Make sure you take recent photos - the lady claimed they asked for "new" photos. That was not written in our instructions as far as I know and I had figured a second copy of the ones they already had, and that I used for my medical would suffice. They were from less than 6 months ago. If po... read complete review

Well, like all of my fellow VJ'ers it's been a long, stressful haul!

Like the other reviews have stated, the worst part is anxiety and fear of the unknown. I was also bringing my 2 children which made it slightly more stressful. The security guards at the front door are no joke....do not bring a bag, purse, phone etc....people were turned away.

Be over prepared with documents, mine took nearly 30 minutes to sort at the first window. For those immigrating with children, have a rock solid custody order, they read my entire order. My fiancé was with me, calming me the entire way, it was a blessing having him there.

The interview itself was more a "chat":

When did you first meet
Where did you meet
How have you stayed in contact

After reviewing our very large file, he handed a letter through the slot.....and here came the tears, I was so overwhelmed with joy I lost it. The officer said "I'm sorr... read complete review

We had our interview yesterday in Montreal. I really do not have much to add as the detail in my beautiful friend Sylea other members posts is spot on. We did run into a minor snag because we had previously filed a K1 visa and they still had it in their system. It took a while for them to sort it out but it wasnt a huge problem. We got there at 8:30 for our 9 am interview and the whole process took about 2 hours. They wouldnt let me go into the actual interview with my husband but I was allowed to speak to and present all the paperwork at the first window we were called to. My husband was suprised at how quick the interview itself was as they only asked him My name, address, where I work and how long we have known each other. The interactions we had at the first window really felt much more like an interview as she asked us questions and collected our paperwork. All in all this step really does seem like a formality as you are pretty much already approved by the time you get to this ... read complete review

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I had my interview today at the Montreal embassy. I arrived at the embassy around 730am my appointment was scheduled for 740am. My understanding of these appointment letters and that they are all day appointment not specific time. I stayed in line for about 15 minutes, people were let in one at time. The security guy let me in, then I was asked for my passport and DS-160 printout. Next step through metal detectors and asked to go to the basement. Waited there for a few minutes and one of the agents from the from desk come to open the elevator, since I don't have a much I can't tell you the specific times but it close to 8:00. Now all the other reviews seems to be correct. If you are there for K1, you are given a number. I got number 1. At 900 my process was complete.

unfortunately as expected I did not get the visa since I was some ineligibilities for being in the US before.

Now I off to the waivers forum. good luck to everyone.

As has been kind of typical of this whole process, each step has been fraught with worry and anxiety, and as each piece fell into place they weren't nearly as dramatic as expected.
The same was basically true of the interview at Montreal.

Firstly, I urge ALL folks going to Montreal for IR-1/CR-1 visa to review and study Saylin's WIKI and info around the consulate experience. It is completely invaluable, and was exactly as stated. Many of the posted consulate reviews were also very helpful.

I arrived in Montreal a day ahead of my interview, wanting to get my bearings and prepare myself emotionally. I stayed at the Days Inn (again based on reading other's reviews and info on VJ). I caught the 747 bus from the airport after buying a 3 day pass for $18. It dropped me right at the door of the hotel, and is the cheapest and most efficient way to get to downtown, assuming that's where you've chosen to stay. It stops right outside the arrivals section of th... read complete review
