Review Topic: K1 Visa

We were the first to arrive and all of us who came early formed a line outside until they opened. At 7am a lady came outside to verify who was there for the interview and whether or not we had any items that were not permitted such as cell phones, any electronics, or basically anything except the documents they needed.

We followed the lady inside and immediately had to go through a security checkpoint and a metal detector. She then led us upstairs to a room full of chairs and gave us a paper to fill out and another paper that listed everything we would need and in what order to organize the documents. We gave the documents to her and she asked us to transfer to the next set of chairs.

Eventually our names were called to go up to one of the many numbered windows where a lady asked us basic questions to confirm our information. We then had to sit back down to wait until we were finally asked to go into the room to be interviewed.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

The Consulate location in Rio de Janeiro is very convenient and close to the airport. Upon arrival, I informed the employee organizing the line outside the Consulate that I was there for a K1 interview and he directed me to go inside. The immigrant visa interview process is completely separated from the regular tourist visa and has 3 parts - first you fill a form with personal data and organize the documents in a certain order, whic they then check and remove unnecessary items. After that, another employee receives your documents and confirms some of your info. The longest part is the waiting for the actual interview - the third and final step. The interview itself is relatively quick, and it can be done in English or Portuguese.

Overall the Consulate is very organized and the employees are helpful and polite.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Consulate process was straight forward. No phones allowed, so don't bring them with you. Interview was at 8 am. Was taking to a room and interviewed by an American agent. The first question was if the interview could be conducted in English, which was agreed upon. The process was straight forward. Some questions asked were, petitioner's name, initial meeting, places visited, petitioner employment, planned living arrangements. Interview only took about 15 minutes, which ended with an approved K1 visa.
