We went to the consulate today and arrived early, about 7:30AM and we did not get our interview until about 1:30PM...a long time to wait.
1st we had to arrange our papers (they give you a list of the order they want everything in) and then you wait to be called for the interview).
I went in with Paula and the consulate officer spoke Portuguese and English. Paula signed the paperwork in front of him and had her fingerprints digitally taken. He asked two questions...how did we meet, and a question about her tourist visa denial in February. It was very easy.
The visa is supposed to be ready in 2 days...but we asked if we could get it the next day and he said they would try.
Make sure all you paperwork is in order and you have copies of everything...we had no problems. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because of the wait.

We had a very good experience with the Consulate in Rio. We found out on April 10 that his interview was scheduled for April 26, and he was able to make his medical exam appointment for April 25. The exam was simple, the doctor was nice (Dr. Joaquim Duarte, I think) and he got his results that day.
We arrived at the Consulate at 8 a.m. and turned in our documents. Then we had to wait until almost 1 p.m. for the interview, which was a little annoying, but a small price to pay. The consul allowed me to attend the interview with him, spoke Portuguese well, and didn't ask us any questions. He reviewed our paperwork, asked us to swear to tell the truth, took my fiance's fingerprints, had him sign the documents he needed to sign in front of an official, and told us to come back in two days to pick up the visa. We went back in two days, and it took about 15 minutes for them to call us and give us his visa and the packet he needed to give the immigration officer in the US.... read complete review
