Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Went to the Consulate two times -- once when my husband T. filed the I-130, and once for my interview.

The I-130 story: we arrived at 7.20, before the lifts were operating, and went up at 7.30 to the 10th floor. Went through security, and waited in the first row of seats. Everyone in that row was then called up to go in the lift to the 59th floor. Kath had told me this previously, but here's a great hint: try to make sure you're at the front of the lift, as you'll be first out when you get to level 59! Once there, you go through security again (and have to check any electronic devices with the guards), then enter the Consulate and take a number. We were number 001, but had to wait until about 8.15 before we were called up.

From all reports, we must have had Rose. She asked us for all our paperwork in order, which T. handed to her. T. then went to pay our fee at the other window and came back to her. Lucky for us, she praised us for being so organiz... read complete review

*** Work in progress ***

We arrived the Consulate building around 0700... however, the elevators to the 10th Floor (U.S. Consulate security checkpoint) are not functional until 0745 for the general public. Personnel that work in the building have key-cards that allow them to utilize the elevator. So, we waited in the seating area by the elevator entrance until the elevators *finally* worked for us.

Once the elevator is usable you go up to the tenth floor and find the U.S. Consulate security office. The security folks will ask for your appointment letter and identification... then process you through a metal detector to another waiting area. Once

Got to the MLC building around 7:20.. the lifts up to Level 10 dont open til 7:30 so was a little early.
Level 10 walked right, all the way around to the consulate office where we lined up and gave the security lady our appointment letter and passport.. She had a quick look through my bags and I went through the metal detector. Sat down in the first row of seats waiting for 7:45 when the next lifts open. Was in the first lift up (someone suggested to get into the lift last which was a good idea).

4th in line at the next security check. They looked at letter and passport, put any bags through the scanning machine and took away phones. Once through you get sent to the right through the doors to the waiting rooms. Directly ahead is the ticket machine which blends in a little too well and can easily be missed. Top button, ticket number 001 =D.. waited around 15 to when i was called up to window #1. Gave the lady all of my documents and appointment letter. She had a q... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I arrived in the city about 6.30am for an 8am interview (I wasnt taking any chances on being late as I usually am for most things lol) Sat down in a cafe to drink lots of coffee to keep me awake as I hadnt slept all night.

Arrived in the foyer of the MLC building at 7.15 and met up with andy (another VJ member who was seeking a K-1 visa) Was kinda soothing having another member there. Just after 7.30 we took the lift up to the 10th floor and waited for the doors to be opened to the US Consulate waiting area. I was 4th in line to go through first lot of security. I was asked if I had anything metal on me before he did a body scan with a hand held device. 'Does underwire in a bra count cause Ive had that set these off before' He laughed and said 'we'll see in a minute'. All was cool no having to take my bra off this time lol Collected my belongings and said 'Thanks darlin''.....oops thats #1 for saying darlin'. I told him I'm working on not saying th... read complete review

Interview 5/6/06
Well, I really cant add more than the previous members.
Just be there on time and be organised. have everything in order, (original followed by the copy etc etc).
If you're organised and start with a smile, its hard to go wrong. I found all the staff at the consulate to be professional and friendly. Yea, you may have to wait a while but you've probably been waiting for 5+ months already right.
One thing, you must hold on to your interview letter when you hand over the paperwork so don't tear it up once you get to the 59th floor.
