The feedback here is mostly consistent with my fiancé's experience so I just have a couple of challenges to share that I hope will help someone else out! This is the short version:
>Suggest requesting the AFP Certificate as early as you feel comfortable and open the package when it arrives to ensure all is in order.
>Make sure that the officer doesn't give you your medical back in the documents they return to you during the interview. They should keep it as they have it to put in the sealed package you need for immigration that gets mailed to you after the interview.
>Expect significant delays around holidays.

Here are the details:
>There are documents you receive that you can and should open (like the AFP Certificate) and there are documents you receive that you shouldn't open (like your medical). We goofed and didn't open the AFP envelope until a couple of days before the interview and discovered that the officer that took my fiancé... read complete review

Had my interview on Tuesday 10/01/17. Was a very easy and smooth process.
The lady who interviewed me was lovely and it was more her just putting things in the computer and a very , very casual chat. In a very relaxed way she asked how I met my fiancee, when we started a relationship, what he does for work, what I do for work , all while she was typing away on the computer. She was lovely. Then said, you're approved . Easy peasy!

The security is quite intimidating, but I always find security intimidating! When you arrive you are made to turn off your phone then proceed to hand your documents to 2 ladies at the front and they pull out what they need. You then go through security, you cannot take anything but your wallet with you. After that you are put in a lift and taken up to a very high floor (Cannot remember exactly). You give your passport to someone and then they will buzz you into the consulate (where the interview takes place etc). You ... read complete review

As expected, the security procedure is super tight but its seamless.

I arrived early, the doors do not open until 0745. Once the doors are open, you are directed to staff who check all your documents. You then go through a security check point (I had a suitcase and backpack as I'm from Melbourne and was flying in and out overnight and its much like security at the airport) So if you can, try and take as little as possible.

Once through security they call you forward, check documents and then you have a short interview with a consulate member.

The process is fast and pretty straight forward. I think I was there about 1hr in total.

The staff I dealt with were all super friendly and nice!

Pretty much as expected. The only people who were having challenges with the process were people who turned up without having everything completed, or having medicals that were out of date, or some other part of the process where they hadn't followed the instructions.

I had no issues. The lady asked some confirming questions, where she had the answers on the screen in front of her anyway. All my stuff was in order, so they just said the magic words, "Your visa is approved, you'll have your passport back in the mail in the next week or so."

I could hardly wait to get back down, collect my phone and things from the security desk, then get down the lift so I could call my fiancee and tell her that we got the YES!

I'm now in the USA, we're married, and we've submitted the I-485 and I-797, so now we're just waiting for me to be able to work. That part sucks big time.

Straight forward experience. Polite, asked easy, reasonable questions.
