The MLC building where the Sydney U.S consulate was easy to find, 5-10 minute walk away from Wynard railway station.
So before my interview I had some brekkie on the bottom levels of the building. They have a whole variety of restaurants/cafes where they have good food/coffee.
Made my way to level 10 and took out my packets, my wallet and clear water bottle, as well as switched off my phone, and my smart watch.
The security person will check that your devices are off before sending you inside to the desk. At the desk, the person asks for your passport and checklist, and reads out the checklist so you can hand the papers to them. They will compile it into a folder. They will also open up your sealed medical report if you have it on you.
I had to go photocopy my Japanese police check (lived there for a year), as it was in a sealed envelope addressed to the consulate so I wasn't allowed to open it. They gave me my compiled pa... read complete review

I arrived exactly 8:20am, my appointment time. Went through a bit of security, handing over necessary papers, quick process. I then waited into another room with other people where I sat for a good 30-40 mins. My ticket number was announced, so i went to the correct window to hand my papers to the officer. I was asked a few easy questions and that was it. Visa was approved! Was nervous all for nothing lol. He didnt even look through my folder of evidence of my relationship. I printed so much stuff too! 😊 He also said my visa will be shipped out to me in a week!

Note - You cannot enter the US Consulate more than 15 minutes before your interview.
Before entering the first stage of the US consulate on level 10 a security guard checks your interview letter and makes you turn off your phone. You walk to a desk where you hand your paperwork over and someone goes through it to make sure you have everything required for the interview. They put it in one of their own translucent folders and hand it back to you. You then go through the security process, just like at a US airport - shoes off, etc.
You are required to leave electronic devices and all other belongings, except your paperwork/evidence in this area. You are then seated and told to wait for someone to come and get you. I only sat there for about 2 minutes before security came and got me and took me in a lift to the 59th floor.
On the 59th floor I was directed to go through a door where I had to take a ticket ... read complete review

Interview was very simple. I was asked a total of 5 questions:
Who is the petitioner
When did we get engaged
What do I do for work
Who is her Dad
What does he do
And congratulations you will have your passport back in two weeks. 2 days after the interview I received my passport and DO NOT OPEN package.

Somehow my fiance only got 9 days notice from when we got his interview date to the interview, so try to gather as much stuff as possible before you even receive the email for it. We did a name check online at the AFP website right after we found out his interview date and had to express send affidavit information. The soonest he could get a medical check appointment was a week after the interview.
Magically, the AFP name check and the affidavit of support info came in the mail the day before his interview, I don't know how... You should do the Police check and affidavit stuff before you get your interview date, the medical check though they seem to want to know when your interview is so you may need to have your date before you get that appointment. But honestly, I don't think it would hurt to email the official doctors and ask if you can set up the appointment before you have your interview date, it may be possible.
He was only there for an hour and the... read complete review
