Well, theoretically it is possible to apply for a GC while your wife is in the US on a tourist visa. You have to file for AOS (Adjustment of status). Since your wife came here without the intention to immigrate, it's not considered as visa fraud. Of course you have to prove this. But the AOS could be denied and then you guys are in trouble. The safe way is to file for CR-1. here are great guides on this site to help you with that. I'm not sure why the immigration officer advised you to go the unsafe route...

I wouldn't say boyfriend... I've been asked that question, said boyfriend, and ended up being drilled and grilled for half an hour by the (female) officer. It wasn't fun. Only after I showed her all my cash, my credit card, my return flight ticket and so on, I could go on. That was a pain, from that time on, I only said "friend" and never had a problem. I didn't lie after all, just left out the "boy".

IMO - It would be easiest and cheapest to do C), since you live and work in South Korea now, get married asap and do DCF. Then you can stay together until August and shortly after you leave, your wife can follow. I'm not dipping into the specifics, because there are so many guides on the CR-1 and K1 visa... Good luck!

My POE was IAD and my parents were travelling with me, we went through the non-citizen lane. The officer asked my parents: So why are you coming with her? Only she got the imigrant visa... (Of course they had all the VWP papers and everything). My dad just explained that they helped with all my luggage and wanted to see where the heck their daughter is going to live, so she backed off...

I don't want to become an USC because I'd loose my Austrian citizenship and we might decide to live in Austria sometime if my husband could find a job.

    Hi,
Yesterday I applied for my ITIN using the IRS office in Louisville, KY. (I'm visiting my husband and applied for CR-1). It was a really easy ans hassle-free. I just had to turn in the signed (by hubby and me) 1040 and other additions + the W7 and my husbands W2 (I don't work now obviously so I didn't have any of that) and the lady simply copied my passport and attached it. She also made sure I get stamped copies from all the paperwork I turned in. Then she took care of the shipping. So, if you can visit and have to get your ITIN, do it with one of the offices, it's easy and free.
