    1. Arrive closer to your interview time as opposed to arriving when the Embassy opens. (Unless, of course, that is when your interview time is.) That way you won't have to wait en masse at the elevator room..... you can be processed through on your own.
    2. Have your interview appointment letter and passport in hand at the 1st Security checkpoint (entry door). Ignore the notice on the interior door telling you to have your $100 cash out. You won't need this until you are upstairs.
    3. Once you exit onto the 19th Floor from the elevator, follow the arrows on the floor leading to the left. Go to Window 14 and present your letter. Receive your ticket stub and sit down in the waiting area. Your number will come up on a monitor hanging from the ceiling and tell you which window to proceed to.
    4. There are four categories of visitors being processed. These are identified by the letter on your ticket stub. K Visas were identified by the letter "C" during my visit. Each time a new number is called, you will hear a beep. This will draw your attention to the screen, where a number will be flashing.
    5. There are washrooms and vending machines in the waiting area.
    6. The room containing Windows 9-12 are where K Visa applicants are processed. This is the same room you will return to when picking up your passport containing the approved visa.
    7. You will be called up twice:
    - The first time you will be asked for the originals and photocopies of the documents identified in your interview letter and checklist. You will then be sent to Window 14 to pay the fee..... U.S. cash only. Pay the fee and return the receipt to the Window you just left, then go back to the waiting area and have a seat.
    - When your number comes up on the screen again, it will tell you a room number to go to. This is a closed-door interview room close to the room containing Windows 9-12. You may walk right in.
    7. When your interview is over, and you have been approved, you will be given a slip with the date and time to return for your visa. Bring this with you, along with your photo ID, to re-enter the Embassy. Anyone accompanying you to the Embassy will not be allowed in with you.
    8. Return to the room containing Windows 9-12. Window 12 is where you will pick up your visa. Have a seat and wait your turn.
    9. Do not loiter directly outside the door of the Embassy. You will be asked to move for security reasons.
All the staff at the Montreal Consulate are very professional and customer-service oriented. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

My goodness, I am sorry your family Dr. was so unprofessional. I think you shouldn't worry, I think they try to push us on the the smallest of details to see how we handle it, and it is no wonder your blood pressure was high, mine was high too that day. I almost want to tell you to call the College of Physicians and Surgeons to put in a complaint of hisunprofessional handling of the situation, and to keep his Friggen opinion about "bad medacine" to himself: my goodness he exhibitated such complete "bad medicine" by upsetting you so.
Keep your chin up kiddo....all will be well. This whole process is overwhelming and I think they test us on every level with such unnecessary procedures..but you will show them that you will perservere with your strength, determination and fortitude...keep strong my friend...

NinoniAndBoosBoos reacted to antda in Canada/US Dual Citizenship & Passport
    Hi Bullwinkle,
Lol...As a Canadian and have "been there, done that"....let me take a crack at answering this question...
Once your AOS is complete you will have a US 2yr Green Card. And then 2 years later you will do a ROC (removal of conditions) and will have a US 10yr Green Card. Throughout this time, you will still be a Canadian citizen and a US permanent resident, and will travel with a Canadian passport and a US green card. Travelling with both of these documents, you should have no problems.
You can then choose to apply for US Citizenship, based on the 3yr or 5 yr rule (see VJ guides and USCIS website for more info). But this is optional, and you will have to carefully consider such a decision. When you apply for US Citizenship, you will get a certificate of citizenship and will become a US Citizen. And from there, you can apply for a US Passport, as US passports are only available for US Citizens..
Now, as far as Canada is concerned, you are still a Canadian citizen, as Canada allows dual/multiple citizenships and as a Canadian citizen you can still carry a Canadian passport (lol..I still do)...You are still a Canadian, unless you formally renounce such. And rest assured, once you have US Citizenship, you can still keep your Canadian citizenship, with no problems.
However, when entering the USA, you are considered an American citizen only, and will have to travel back to the USA with a US passport.
    In other words..
Canada = Canadian citizen and American citizen
    America = American citizen only
And like Just Bob said earlier...
"Luckily for you, for Canadian citizens it's no problem to hold two citizenships, so you will always have to use your US passport when leaving or entering the US, and have to use your Canadian passport when entering or leaving Canada. Outside those two countries you have a choice on what passport to use."
Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey too.
    Ant

I was mailed the Packet 3. All it told me was to go online and fill out the forms though. I did, sent it in, they took about 3 weeks to mail me the Packet 4, which then instructed me to book my interview online. I just checked the waiting period between booking the interview and getting it, and it was about 3 months, so apparently I had a really lucky time in that I managed to get in in 3 weeks.
    Hope that helped!

NinoniAndBoosBoos reacted to Penny Lane in Yes, you can visit!
    I left from Ottawa.
They asked who I was visiting, I said my fiance.
They asked how long I was staying, I said a month.
They asked if I was employed and I said no, that my contract for my job had just ended.
They asked where I was staying.
They asked for proof of residence (I had to show my driver's license)
They asked to see my return ticket.
They told me what date I needed to return by (6 months)
Nothing extensive, just more than I usually received. It was no problem, though. But he might have just been in a good mood that day, who knows.

Not for me! I've had many more "easy" crossings in Fort Erie/Buffalo than in Toronto, plus the airport in Buffalo is much smaller, and less crazy to drive to than Pearson (and in my case, much closer!) Plus you save a ton of money! I mean, we've seen enough of what could go wrong, so don't overpack, print your flight plans and show those border agents you know just what your responsibilities are as an I-129f petitioner.
