Is the pot calling the kettle black? I haven't seen anything resembling a call for policing unauthorized immigration.......... of course maybe in addition to my apparent deficit of grey matter(as I share Spook's question) I am blind or my reading skills are failing me prematurely. Oh well!

I think that serious consideration should be given to requiring the answering of some basic poll questions by new registrants to VJ. By monitoring the mandatory polls, it will help members to better understand the demographic breakdown of the overall VJ membership. In particular the first of the mandatory polls I would recommend can be found here
    POLL
Thanks for your consideration. Si man.

Corporations never pay corporate income taxes...........whether large multinational puppet-masters or small mom and pop s-corps. The puppet-masters take their cut as do mom and pop and any added costs(including corporate taxes) are passed to the consumer of the goods or services being sold by the corporation. Higher corporate income tax rates simply....very simply ALWAYS result in a higher cost for the individual and at the same time less money in his pocket to spend on the higher cost good. More money left in the pocket of the guy on the street results in more consumer spending on less expensive goods, more consumer spending results in higher demand for goods. Higher demand for goods and services results in higher production. Higher production results in hiring. Lower corporate rates also reduce the incentive for corporations to choose offshore locations in which to conduct business. Yes yes yes this is oversimplified, but still fundamentally correct
    Raise the corporate rate for

    1) ExxonMobil and the guy on the street pays more for fuel and anything manufactured of or wit petrochemicals. Also you pay more for anything that requires transport in anything that requires fuel or petrochemicals to operate. It is a vicious pyramid of cumulative cost.

    2) Bank of America and the uy on the street earns less on accounts and pays ore for services as do companies for cmmercial banking services which are also passed on to their consumers.
    3) General Electric and the guy on the pays more for his coffee maker and more in taxes to finance higher costs of military goods sold to Uncle Sam.
    4) Chevron see #1.
    5) Boeing, and it costs me and every other dufus on two legs more for airline tickets and taxes.
    6) Valero Energy, see #1.
    etc.................
Fundamentally, Corporations do not pay taxes, they are merely collection agents of taxes for your Uncle. They collect those taxes from ALL of us on behalf of our benevolent bureaucracy. Furthermore, if you hold stock directly or indirectly via mutual fund or other investment vehicle that hold such stock in any of the list of ten that Steve posted, then YOU are the corporation.

Cutest anecdote since reuniting with my family:
Brought with me, among other things 5 pounds of Pecans from North Florida, a really nice garlic press and some Mentos gum.
Left our son with Sis while we went to visit our parents last night. Returned to the flat to find our son with a Mentos gum Mohawk................what to do? Having no peanut butter at hand, I shelled a pecan and ran it through the garlic press a couple of times and then mashed it with a spoon. Worked the pecan butter liberally into the afore mentioned mohawk and viola.......No harm, no foul only one less plump tasty Florida pecan!
    Macgyvering daddy style!

I am just new newbie on this forum, just learning about our nightmare immigration jungle. My wife and I were just married, here in the states, a few weeks ago. I am a US citizen, and she is Brazilian. But we have been a couple for all intents and purposes and pretty much inseparable, for more than 2 years now. The only thing that kept us separated for a few months during that time was work, visa limitations, and a few other events. Still we have managed to spend the most of the last 2 years together. I am just getting things together to file our I-130. Your words quoted above are quite profound and moving, and so, so true. We are becoming a nation of sheeple, not people. I do not care what some here say, my wife is my wife and as a citizen of this nation, I believe that I should have a right to be with her and that I should not have to petition a corrupt government that now serves itself and not the people for the priveledge. You are right, and the posters here that are making insensitive remarks to those seeking help and separated from their loved one, are confused. I have already started a life together with my wife, and now we have to put that on hold, and we cannot even know for how long. Maybe if we just did it illegally, we could get rewarded for that. Seems to be lots of support for that, but none for the rights of citizens petitioning legally for their loved ones. We are not a large enough voting block I suppose. To quote one poster I read on this site, 'Where is our dream act?' The US government, in accordance to our constitution, is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around. The sad fact that so many citizens here do not know that is bringing our nation down. Do not worry, all of you who do not want legal immigrants coming here. If we keep going the direction we are going, no one will come anymore. Yes, this is still one of the greatest places on earth to live, in many ways. But I fear for this nation if we continue to let our out of control federal government nightmare spin further out of control of the people. If they try my patience too much with the CR-1 process, I will grudgingly give up my career early(my wife is already retired) and move to her country. I would rather do that than live without her. But what about people who do not have that option? Is there no compassion for them? Better do so quickly I guess if I want to leave, before they build a big fence to keep us all IN, like the former USSR did. We are looking more like them every day.
And yes, misterbigtoe, This is not the America I grew up believing in either.

It does not matter that "not everyone gets screwed". It is a HUGE problem that anyone gets screwed. So you dont like to vent about the unbelievable Bullcaca that some among us have been subjected to and i generally dont vent about my problems either. Some people need that vent or an occasional rant to blow off steam. So what, dont read em if they bother you. Of course no one expects their rants or venting to directly change the system. What they are hoping to do is to raise everyones awareness of the potential clu$terfvck that could lay in wait for you where you dont expect it. Dont put your blinders on because you are offended by whining. Pay attention
Point is the system is seriously flawed and just because it has not bitten you in the a$$ does not mean that it wont.
We should have higher expectations of our government and public servants not only for ourselves, but for everyone.

I am opining here having had much more that the average amount of interaction with various government agencies inclucing immigration. It is not wrong to demand service, and furthermore we should demand a very high standard of service. Of course we cannot demand outcome and I do not believe that anyone here really expected that.
You seem to be saying that whatever level of service the government deems appropriate is what we should collectively be grateful for............Sorry, but we are the ones paying the bills and we should expect a very high standard of SERVICE! We demand a return that is appropriate to our expenditure in the private sector, yet we pay far more for our government services and receive substandard service in return.
Specific to immigration, why should there be a need for expediting anyones cases? Why is there an avenue for expediting? Simply because the current system is so fundamentally flawed that there is a built in assumption of inefficiency and unnecessary delay. Among the criteria for seeking expedited handling are Humanitarian and Economic hardships. Are there any among us our family members overseas who do not view this process as a humanitarian or economic hardship? If you do not view it as a humanitarian hardship, you are in a fraudulent relationship, if you do not view it as an economic hardship, your taxes need to go up to help pay for the bloated salaries of our federal workforce.
Y'know, my family and I probably will not permanently reside in the US. We would like however to be able to travel to the US as a family unit to visit our family here. Short of an immigrant visa that can not happen because of the legal and codified assumption that every visitor to the US is an intended immigrant.. If not for my family living in the States, I would already have moved there. If you love the system so much as it is, I would be all too happy to opt out and be one less payer funding the morass of bureaucratic ineptitude that our government has morphed into.
It really is sad that some believe as you seem to that the government on a whim either "get you out of their as quickly as possible or let you rot for an eternity". Is that what we collectively now as a people are supposed to tolerate?
THAT IS NOT THE AMERICA I GREW UP BELIEVING IN
