  1. My idea.

First, I would keep employee-paid insurance--but I would structure it in such a way that there is a high deductible ($4000).

Then the company would put in around $100-300 per month (depending on dependants) for a Health Savings account. This will take care of any little doctor visits, and acculmulates over time, year after year. It rewards people for being healthy. However, if there is anything major, the health insurance will still cover it. and maybe after someone reaches retirement age and they have a big balance, they can roll some of it over to their retirement fund and keep the rest to subsidize medicare.

For people who don't have employee based health insurance then I think an HMO program, subsidized by both State, Federal and big pharmaceutical companies would be good.

  2. Same as others, I was making really good money, but needed the co-sponsor. Because 1) I was studying abroad the year before (hence meeting my husband) and basically made no money. And 2) the 2 years before that I was a college student. And made minimal.

  3. My husband absolutely hates it when I wear any make-up. Before we got married I had a 5 minute routine that I may or may not pur on depending on my mood. But now I just forget it. I think that last time I wore make up was on my wedding day and on a couple job interviews. I like not wearing make up. And I like it even more that my husband prefers me not too!

  4. Who's advocating ignorance??? You're twisting what I'm saying.

You advocated not teaching kids about the pill:

Yes, kids should learn about condoms... not about birth control pills because they don't protect against STDs.

They're going to remain ignorant about the pill unless you teach them about it, surely?

The pill is not effective against STDs. And it's not just HIV either.

Condoms are the most effective, prevent most STDs AND protect against pregnancy. Why in the world would someone advocate the pill...which cannot make all these claims...over a condom is beyond me.

I'm not advocating the pill over the condom, I'm simply saying you have to teach about every form of birth control. You can't just leave out the ones you don't like. Personally I think the pill combined with condom use is the best method, condoms split, pills don't get taken, a combination of both reduces your changes of pregnancy and STDs.

This is just a pet peeve of mine. Why should the firl have to submit herself to sometime very harmful hormones, because a guy just might forget a condom. Female condom is a good substitute. But really, women a fertile a few days out of the month, men are fertile all the time. It just irks me to no end that the female is often blamed and held wholly responsible. But thats why teaching abstinence or a committed relationship first, before casual sex, just makes more sense.

  5. I believe in teaching the ABC

    Abistinence

    Be in a Committed relationship

    Condoms

Abstinence is very good to teach--worked for me and a bunch of my friends.

If that fails, then at least be in a committed relaionship so you're not sleeping around and increasing your chances (with some form of birth control)

And if you're going to have multiple partners, then yes, always have a condom.

Actually, in South Africa, the women get female condoms because in the poorer communities, the chance of them getting raped is high, so they can just wear the female condom almost constantly for pretection.

  6. My husband has been here just over two years. Our second wedding anniversery is in a few weeks. We just bought our first house together. And in those two short years he managed to establish a good credit and work history and he is the main borrower on the loan instead of me--the USC--I'm still having a hard time figuring it out.

We both have jobs we love and that helps alot. The rest of it has been learning to mesh two lives together and that Atlantic ocean can sure mean there are alot of differences to come to communicate about and come to agreement to. I sure do respect and appreciate all he does for me. I'm glad we didn't give up on each other during the rough times. I am so very grateful he is my husband.

  7. In our wedding, after we were pronounced husband and wife, we danced down the aisle to traditional IGBO music. Let me clarify, my husband danced and I bobbed up and down trying not to trip on my dress. It was a big hit.

  9. It depends on the Consulate. My then fiance went through the South African consulate---and we had a cosponsor. No problems whatsoever. But South Africa is an easy place to get a K1 visa. India is probably different. My advice is to go the India subforum and ask how they deal with cosponsors. I know one girl, who's Nigerian finace in Nepal had an awful time getting a visa--BUt that is Nepal. It seems to me that India is a hard place to get a visa though. PLus, the have to approve you to go through their embassy. But I don't really see that as a problem. Again, my advice is to ask the people in the Indian subforum.

  10. Hi there. My then fiance had his medical in South Africa. I believe it was around $150. Sorry, I forget what that is in Rand. He had his yellow card, but there are some vaccinations which are required that are not on the yellow card. And unfortunately, he was stuck with needles and it did hurt quite a bit (as in afterwards). I would talk to the doctor about your fears and have someone supportive go with you if at all possible. Plus different people have different reactions to vaccinations. I have never had problems with soreness or anything.

  11. I know a couple from Ghana, they were both from Ghana who were forced to divorce by the Elders. THey were devestated as they really loved each other. The problem is, if your husband is so deeply entwined in his culture and will follow their advice, in my opinion it does not bode well for a good relationship here in America. Also, I don't think she got scammed, otherwise he would have gotten the divorce after he got the visa, this is definitely a cultural thing. And may not be one that you can overcome.

  12. My husband is starting his own business. I made a website through Yahoo Site Builder. I am trying to add keywords and such so that it comes up fairly soon in seraches--at least location specific searches or our name, which is very unique. Nothing works. Am I missing something here? I am not that website saavy so any tips and advice will probably be helpful!

    Thanks.

  13. My husband likes cats, but I don't. We'll probably get a dog in the future. What we both don't understand is how someone can treat a dog or a cat like a human being. They're not. But they are nice to have around.
