  1. Whatever, we don't see a penny of our housing allowance and yeah we get about $175 for food - but Dave can't eat at the mess hall anymore. it's a trade off. Other than that his paycheck is exactly the same. Not an extra penny because of me! I dunno if people think that we shouldn't get our housing allowance... but I have no idea how we would live without it - we couldn't afford to pay rent on the $1200/month he brings home!

  2. Single people should be paid the same wages in the military as married people. This wouldn't happen then.

Yeah, but then the single guys shouldn't get free room and board!

The married guys get the same free room and board plus extra money for off base housing. so there. :P

huh? We get BAH of like $975... our rent is $975 in base housing. Were we tolive off base an apartment would probably be about $800 plus utilities...

oh wait... I get it... yeah, married guys who don't actually live with their wives can stay in the married barrcks for like $1/day, I think and they still get to pocket that $975/month (or whatever it is inyour area) hmmmm... but - I don't think that this is only restricted to marrying foreigners to scam the system... it would be way easier to marry domestic! We suspect a few marriages as being semi-convenience-based, or at least the wife has moved away, but they're not getting divorced just so they can continue to get BAH.

Your choice to get married. Look I'm not saying you shouldn't be getting paid for housing but the single guys should be paid the same wage as the married for doing the same job.

    Wouldn't you agree?

And they are, as far as I know... it's acommon misconception that your paycheque goes up when you get married or have kids in the military. I thought this was discussed pretty well in an above post :)

  4. I have heard good things about the rosetta stone software series ($$$ but you could download it if you were so inclined) - they take an integrated approach and attempt to teach you the second language in the same way you assimilated your first (though it is debatable if adults can learn languages purely in this manner). I tried the Japanese one as a way to keep up my second language skills, but I found it too easy for someone who already speaks the language.

I have also tried pimsleur CD's in the car - they are good for beginners and VERY repetitive.

Also try a google search for free language learning podcasts - there are lots of good ones if you look and you can make the most of your commute!

    Good luck!

  5. Canadalaura-

I would suggest a lovely menu to include:

    Hors d'Oeivres:

Cumin Fire Shrimp, Chicken Yakitori, Gorgonzola Gougeres, and Spanakopita.

    First Course:

Composition of Asparagus, Goat Cheese, and Beets

    Assorted Breads

    Main Course:

Fresh cod with a lemon mustard glaze on a bed of French lentils

    Fondue of vegetables

    Dessert:

    Raspberry Cheesecake Napoleon

And I would suggest somebody else make it because that would take more than 5 minutes to make (which is the max time I allocate for cooking).

    Set....2...3....0 hit start

    lol. cup a noodles, maybe?

reminds me of that commercial... buck o noodles

Haha... i love that commercial! I am a slave to good marketing.

  6. Unfortunately, for these lovely items I cannot share the recipe (if I knew it to begin with) since that would be breach of contract.

Trade you for my chocolate napoleon recipe :)

Yeah... might go for pizza - i probably won't get home from work until 7:00... then we have a party at 8:30. Ugh... I have akiller headache and don't want to go to the stupid party. :crying:
