  1. Hi,

has anyone else had problems with uploading documents in the evidence section of the online N-400 form?

I have made sure all the documents are the correct size and format. I have also tried uploading them on Chrome and explorer. I just see the uploading bar and it never changes from 0% uploaded. Its driving me crazy trying to figure out how to fix this problem!

Any help is greatly appreciated, many thanks

  2. Hi,

I have a 2 year green card that expires october 2014. I have already submitted the I-751 form for removal of conditions. I spent three months (december 2013-march 2014) outside the USA.

I flew back to the USA on 20th march 2014. I hope to travel back home (UK) on the 20th September (184 days). I hope to stay in the UK for 6 months or until I am called for an interview for the removal of conditions.

My first question: Has enough time elapsed between 20th march and 20 th september to count as the 6 month minimum needed to meet green card requirements? (all websites are stating this as exactly 6 months, however I add it up as 6 months and 1 day)?

Secondly: technically it is ok if I leave the USA for the next 5 months and so many days as long as next year I stay at least again 6 months? Are the years counted January to january or in 12 month periods?

    Thanks for your help!

  3. I got my green card in October 2012. I will applying for removal of conditions for the green card this summer. However, I have a very good opportunity to study in my home country for a 2-3 year degree. I hope to one day return to the US (my visa is through marriage to a US citizen). From what I have read the re-entry permit is not guaranteed to cover my whole time away. I believe the most honest way to resolve this issue of studying abroad is to abandon my green card legally then apply again in four years time when I will return. Is it very difficult to apply again for the green card if I have abandoned it once? Is that held against me for future applications? How is the best way to abandon the green card to ensure that everything is clearly documented and I have followed the correct procedures? Thank you for your help!

  4. Greetings

Just researching into how i do my taxes this year and glad i ran across this....first i married in july 2011, for 2011 i filed single (now i think mistakenly) as my wife was living in the UK. She got her green card in September 2012 and i thought i should file married this year (now i think probably last year also) but my concern was that as she wasnt here for most of the year and as we signed the I864 saying she wouldnt receive any government funds and filing married would give me a bigger refund, what am i supposed to do?

Obviously i am married and feel in the interest of honest ( the best policy in regards to the IRS for sure) i should file as such, but is this right?

    Thanks for your time

    Zac

  5. Wanted to act like I didn't see this post and not reply you but............but readers can learn one or two things from this. (I know this is immigration and visa forum but I can;t just do with replying this )

Just bcos there are high level of crime in California where you live doesn't make you a criminal? Not all Nigerians are fraudsters and we are all diff, plus you can't even write one page history about Nigeria just a stereotype. I asked the question ofcos because I don't know which way. I'm a Network Engineer and I can proudly say I've never come close to fraud. Every country has its negative, i'm neither proud of it nor happy about it but our positive overweight our negative. You people should respect God and stop insulting everybody just bcos you have access to internet and you can type whatever you want. You post wasn't meant to help me but to pass unfair insult on me. A Nigerian student (Emmanuel Ohuabunwa, 22)recently broke all academic records at John Hopkins University and A Nigerian woman (Bunmi Awoniyi, 48) was appointed to the Sacramento County Superior Court in California why don't you talk about that why talk about fraud. Lets be positive in life and that's how America can keep moving up, negative minded people will sink America.

I am glad you replied to all of this nonsense. Yes Nigeria has its problems, but so do we, plenty of them. How many of the people giving their ignorant comments have been to Nigeria? There are 162 million people in Nigeria, that is one in every six and a half Africans. There are good people mixed in there with all these fraudsters that the country is know for, rightly or wrongly so. Keep that in mind next time you meet a Nigerian.

  6. Yesterday was a good day and finally the end of the first step of this long process......

we received both the welcome letter and the green card in the mail on the same day. nearly two months after my wife first entered....

    finally!!!

good luck to all where ever they are in their process

  7. Greetings

We have been so lucky to be finally through this process, or at least the initial step of it, and finally being together legally in one place, that we havent really thought about much beyond this yet.......

My wife came over on the 9th of this month with a CR1 visa and got a stamp in her passport on the page facing her visa, same type of stamp as all her other ones but this one says CR1 on it.

Do we need to do anything now? Will her actual green card be automatically mailed to our address? Do we need to physically apply somewhere for a social security number? I remember checking a place on an application during this process saying for it to be sent to us automatically, does this actually happen?

Any way any helps or hints on what we should be doing now for her to become settled with all her paper work in order so can get employment would be greatly appreciated.

Okay thanks and be well and good luck in this frustrating and long process in whatever stage you may be, eventually you will be together, and it will be all worth it.

    Sian and Zac

  8. From our experience be sure to bring the 2011 tax documents for sure. We submitted our 864 to NVC before april 15 so didnt have 2011, had 2008-2010 a currently pay stub, a letter from the employer and it wasnt enough. Because we interviewed in August we had to also have the 2011 tax returns so be sure you are up to date on all your 864 stuff. On the plus side the two men we dealt with at the embassy were superbly nice and very friendly and helpful, they really made us feel at ease about it. I the USC was there with my wife for the intevriew.

    Good luck

  9. I am in Uk with my wife now, i am the usc. When we flew into heathrow we had no problems i was honest, i.e. i am here with my wife visiting her family. No problems just a few quick questions. We then flew to portugal from Liverpool and back a few weeks later, same thing in Liverpool, am here visiting my wifes family, again no problem. be honest answer all questions and you should be fine. if they have a problem let them know you are filing to move to USA not trying to live in UK and you should be fine.

    good luck
