  1. SemperAye, disregard my post about Pinay wife using US passport. See Tahoma's post above. I was told some wrong info, sorry to have passed it along. What he said makes a lot of sense.

When Chinook and I go to the Philippines, Chinook uses only her U.S. passport. The officer automatically stamps both of our passports for a one-year stay.

The customs officer simply looks at the biographical page of Chinook's passport to see that her country of birth is the Philippines.

Thanks for the correction, Tahoma! Someone told me wrong...

  2. Regardless of the exact definition, the SSN card is uploaded under the category "Identity Document". The exact wording from USAA is below... The OP said the account in question is through USAA and my accounts are also. So this is something I am familiar with...this was after the W8BEN was sent.

    ----------

We're writing about an urgent matter concerning your USAA account(s). When you open an account and in certain other circumstances, federal law requires that USAA obtain, verify and record your name, address, date of birth, social security or taxpayer identification number and other information that allows us to identify you. At this time, we're missing and/or unable to verify some information. Please provide the following to us by June 11, 2015

A copy of your Social Security card

Yes, I am a bit familiar with USAA also. Been using them for 21+ years now. And a SSN or ITIN is required for tax purposes, as I stated. But it still does not prove identity. It is just required by law for a bank to have one or the other (or EIN, technically) for the purpose of reporting interest income to the IRS.

When we added my wife to my account, she did not have a SSN yet due to a SNAFU, so she got an ITIN and used it until she got her SSN.

  3. I believe the verbiage "most recent ITR" (or something close) is used. If 2013 is his most recent, then use that. He is well within the law of not filing for 180 days past the deployment termination date. To be safe, I would bring the 2013 ITR transcript as well as a copy of his deployment orders showing anticipated date of return.

  4. There is a good chance USAA will ask for an identity document also. A picture of your SSN Card will work and that can be done with the USAA App or scanned and uploaded online.

A SSN is not an identity document. A state- or federal-issued ID card or passport or BC is.

A SSN or ITIN (plus W8BEN if not a resident alien) is just a tax number for the IRS.

  5. Perfect. But, are you implying that since my wife will have a US passport upon arrival in the Philippines, that she and I will only be able to stay for one year according to Filipino law unless we have her apply for dual citizenship? Or are you saying that I could stay for more then one year if she was a dual citizen?

YOU can stay up to one year on a BB visa if you arrive WITH her and get the stamp in your passport based on her BB status. If she only has US passport, then she (and you) will get the 30-day visa automatically, but will have to apply to stay past 30 days.

  6. W-8BEN should be used if the applicant does not have GC yet:

The form establishes that one is a non-resident alien or foreign corporation, to avoid or reduce tax withholding from U.S. source income, such as rents from U.S. property, interest on U.S. bank deposits or dividends paid by U.S. corporations.

There are several things you can use to open your own bank account, or be added to someone's account. This site explains them fairly well:

    http://www.ilgrp.com/can-i-open-up-a-bank-account/

Bear in mind, the bank's rules matter to THEM. They are not making the laws, but setting rules in place to stay in line with the Patriot Act. So yes, it depends on the bank.

If they tell you you must have a GC, they are wrong. You can use GC or W8BEN. If they tell you you must have SSN, they are wrong, either SSN or ITIN will work. However... it's THEIR rules, so the burden of getting them to understand the rules in the link above is on you. If your bank won't budge, don't stress, just open an account with another bank that will take what you have. Nothing wrong with having multiple bank accounts; we have 4 in the US and 2 in the PI!

  7. 1) I heard you are kind of on the short side. Not like the country, hog fed boys.. :goofy:

    2) Spent my whole life in the south up until 2009.

    3) That's the qualifier if you don't want to appear racist.:rofl::rofl::goofy:

    1) Don't think your ghey clown face makes your mean words seem less hurtful.

    2) You lived in Tennessee. That's pretty much north of everywhere I have lived in the US except a brief stint in Alaska, Yankee.

    3) I have TWO, so I am above the law.

  8. So you think Alabama is welcoming to black people? Besides you of course because you are welcoming to black people.

But dude, I'm from Tennessee. I know the South... Alabama and Mississippi are the scariest states alive for black people.

And you've lived here in Alabama how many years now? You may have me beat, as I have only spent 6 years just about as far South as you can go before you hit Florida, but thus far, none of the blacks I see almost daily seem scared of me at all. Nor of the other whiteys around us. But maybe they are just hiding their fear so as to keep me from going all postal on them. Yanno, like never looking a mad dog in the eye?

  9. I can't for the life of me understand any of this. It's like folks here and IRL want so bad to talk about black people and our culture without an opinion from a black person that doesn't have the same mindset.

I find that rather offensive, since you have never heard me say anything bad about black people. For the record, I doubt you could find another white person who gives any more respect to folks like you for no reason at all other than because they are human; even if my words may come across harsh or wrong on here, my heart has always been in the right place. (I did accuse YOU of whining about oppression, but that was because I know the past 20+ years of your life have been anything but oppressive. That was not directed towards blacks in general, because none of the ones I know IRL ever talk like this, at least not to me. Maybe because they don't have the internet between us, in all fairness.)

But I can take a hint. I'll shut up. I have black friends IRL and we see things in a different light than you and others here. I can't change your beliefs, nor you mine. I just live in my world, and try to ignore the negativity that is outside my realm and beyond my influence. I wish you the best in your quest, peace in your life, and happiness in your new civilian job.

  10. Ahem. Pretty sure I just copied and pasted. Pretty sure it said protestors, not which color they were. IIRC, the protestors were of at least 3 different racial backgrounds.

The idea that someone did what they did to cause more unrest, and either got paid for it, or at least thought they would get paid, bugs me. And it should bug all of us. IMHO.

it's always so much fun to take a link and dig through all the spin and nonsense to get to the truth. if anyone is interested in reading commentary direct from the source, without all the whining about how black people don't care about ANY cause they just want money..here's a link. http://millennialau.tumblr.com/post/119036235946/cutthecheck

    talk about misunderstanding.

Now get me a dam daisy!

  11. You're joking right?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_African_Americans#Welfare_queen

Studies show that the public dramatically overestimates the number of African Americans in poverty, with the cause of this attributed to media trends and its portrayal of poverty

So from your link, I gathered that there are approximately twice as many blacks (by percentage) living in poverty as whites, and that single-parent homes account for almost 4 times that percentage living in poverty.

Doesn't say anything about how anyone assumes "all blacks use food stamps", as was alluded to above.

5.4% of all white individuals, 9.7% of black individuals, and 14.9% of all Hispanic individuals lived in poverty.

These numbers increased for single-parent homes, 22.5% of all white single-parent individuals,44.0% of all single-parent black individuals, and 33.4% of all single-parent Hispanic individuals living in poverty.

  12. I said OR stupidity. I didn't blame all of it on racism. But nice try.

Nothing is wrong with welfare....until you are a black person receiving it.

Oh, but it's ok for ME to get looked down upon, just not YOU?

From the lighter side of the tracks... people who look down upon others who are receiving financial aid have probably never been in a situation where they needed nor were entitled to it. That tends to make them more judgmental and less understanding. But that is not racism, that is life.

The groceries are perfectly fine, the people, not so much.

Then change stores. Simple. Don't continue to deal with ignorant people and pay their salaries.

  13. It's easier to make you adapt to racism, rather than change the system. This is why we can't buy nice cars if we make good money. Better to keep it simple than force someone to see you as an individual. Or why we should wear suits and ties at all times, even when running to the store.

Do you really believe this #######, or do you just post it to get LIB up in arms?

There are many nice cars on my street, owned by several families of the darkest brown possible, most of them more than I can afford. (But they MAY be Obama cars, I didn't ask)

And suit and tie to go to the store?:no: (If I were a poster with no typing skills, I would insert a facepalm jpeg here.)

  14. I want this dude to answer my question. I know you have common sense and book knowledge.

But you make awesome points. People want you to adapt to the way things are so they don't have to change, thus perpetuating the cycle. I don't want my descendants to deal with this mess.

Awww man, it's a must? I need to go to the store today. It makes no sense for me to drive all the way down the street past a perfectly good grocery store to go to Walmart.

If it's so perfect, then why are you so bothered by the questions there? I'd insert a wink here, but you would get madder at me.

  15. It can be I am treated unfairly due to racism or pure stupidity with people not knowing every black person isn't on food stamps.

Why should I have to change where I shop? Why can't people just get an attitude adjustment and let go of ignorance?

Asking if you will be paying with an EBT card or debit card is not racism. But nice try. And I doubt that there are very many folks in this world who think all black people are on food stamps.

What's wrong with welfare? I have used it, and wasn't ashamed. It was a benefit provided to me by the government, and I qualified... only a fool would pass it up, IMHO.

As to changing where you shop... either change, or put up with being asked the same questions that seem to bug you over and over; it's up to you. At the end of the day, YOU are the one being bugged, not the asker. Regardless of their motivation for the question, it is not bothering them to ask, only you. Me? I don't continue to shop places where the employees annoy me. Except for Lowe's, but that's only cuz Home Depot is 30 miles farther away. But the local Lowe's employees are not very bright, nor are they very helpful. Except one older black gentleman, he is sweet as can be, and I enjoy just talking to him about stuff not even related to my projects.

  16. It seems the protestors didn't vet their employers well enough prior to going to "work"...

Now some of the "protesters" themselves are complaining that they never got paid.

In mid-May, Millennial Activists United organized a sit-in at the Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment offices. The reason: MORE owed the protesters money.

The group complained that MORE "created a joint account in which national donors from all over the world have donated over $150,000 to sustain the movement," but "the poor black people of this movement ... have seen little to none of that money."

    http://news.investors.com/Blogs-Capital-Hill/052015-753642-ferguson-protesters-complain-about-not-getting-paid.htm

  17. I've never swiped an EBT card. :o Shocking!

And to say I might have an oppressed single mother look who can't catch a break is just pure stupidity. The smirk at the end of your sentence makes it no less stupid.

If you type it, it is a wink. If I type it, it is a smirk? Hardly seems fair, does it?

Maybe you need to find a different place to shop if you feel you are being treated unfairly, or looked down upon based on your race. Where I shop, all of us (various races) mingle and smile and say hi all the time with no issues.

Then again, if a clerk DID ask me if I was using an EBT card, I would not get upset. But maybe that's just me...

  18. No, I am a Puerto Rican woman. What does THAT have to do with anything?

Now to be fair, I shop at a grocery store where 90% or more of the clientele are black. I HAVE heard the clerks asking the women, "Debit, credit, or EBT?" as the swipe their cards. I can only assume that there are a larger proportion of black women who shop there using EBTs than at say Walmart, since they are asking. Perhaps it's just my WP, or maybe the fact that I have never swiped an EBT and the clerks know that, but I have never been asked. Nor would I be offended if I were to be asked. They are just doing their job, yanno?

The clerks referred to were at the smaller grocery store, not the superstore.

ahhhh, yessssss. currently basking in yer butthurt, oh so frustrated man tears are delish. (F)

Bask in your deliriousness all you want, but I am not butthurt over your failure to understand what I wrote. And I don't like roses. Please use a daisy for me henceforth.
