And the GOP Supermajority had to override the veto by Governor Beshear to pass this legislation. Most commentators agree that Beshear, if given the opportunity, will ignore the state legislature, appoint a Democrat and dare the appointment to be challenged in court. He loses nothing by doing so. Even if the court immediately stays his appointment, that will just leave the seat infilled, which is another option he has, so why not give it a go? He has already shown his intent by vetoing the bill, so why would he not choose to challenge this law?

The GOP can’t let that happen. Beshear will appoint a Democrat to fill in before a Special Election.

This move was never meant to squeeze Moscow. It is not for Sleepy Joe to put forward a robust plan to end the war. There is zero possibility that the antagonist in the Ukraine conflict will be amenable to an American solution. The only way Sleepy Joe can effect an end to the show is to commit US forces to end the Russian resistance to the Ukrainian counteroffensive before they run out of personnel. And that’s a “Hell! No!” from every sane person in the West. Given proportional support from the start, this conflict could and should have been resolved well before now. But the West has dragged its collective feet, doing just enough to keep things going and not enough to provide a decisive advantage. It’s almost as if allowing Ukraine to achieve victory was not the agenda in play here.

Anything to keep DJT front and centre of the media cycle.
