  1. Hi guys!! I just came back from my interview and I passed with flying colors!!!

I got there around 12.00 with my husband. My appointment was for 12.30 pm but the IO didn't show up until almost 1.15 pm.

She was incredible nice with me and she made me feel super comfortable. She requested my passport, my SSN, my driver's license and green card. And then proceeded with the civic test.

Then we went through my application, it took probably 45 mins to go through the entire thing: she asked me about my jobs, my husband's previous marriage, our son, my family. We talked about my speeding ticket ( thank God I took the court resolution and dismissed). She told me a ticket is not big deal.

She joke here and there and honestly It didn't feel like an interview at all despite the lenght (around 50 mins). She approved me on the spot and made me signed my application. She then told me to wait for my oath ceremony letter and handed me an approval letter.

She scort me to the main door where my hubby was waiting for me, when he saw my big smile he ran to hugged me and kissed me...my IO was behind me and she started laughing and she then approached to say hi to my hubby. She was extremely kind and nice.

She told me my oath ceremony is within days so I needed to make sure not to travel far away.... And that was it!

Im so so so excited and I can't believe I'm just a step away from being an US citizen???

    Congrats!

  2. Had my road test today and I passed!!! Unbelievably happy and relieved. I honestly never thought it was possible I know it sounds weird but it's a dream come true :) it was a simple test, zero parking except next to a curb. It lasted 17 min but then I spent literally 25 minutes in the car after the test talking to the agent (he was a cop for 30 years) who was super nice and he was just talking about nit picky agents and people who take the test and don't know their left and right, just casual, light-hearted stuff. My husband was freaking out because I was talking to him so long he thought I was arguing with him because I failed. I was SOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!! no more wasting the night having to practice every day. I can finally get a job now and live our life. Just wanted to share that with everyone and good luck/preparation for those getting theirs!

    Congrats!

  3. PASSED! I'm on my way to work now, will update later!

Passed! Also on our way to work, will also update later.

Yay!! Just received email/text, my interview was scheduled! Finally! I'm so happy!! And congrats to everyone making progress and passing on the interviews!

Finally some action -- Got Email today that Interview has been scheduled ! Now waiting on Interview letter

Lots of activity this week! Congrats to those who passed and to those whose interviews have now been scheduled.

  4. Usually 5 weeks from the update... although it can be a day or two late if they're busy.

So if you want a rough guess, Friday, June 19 or a few days later.

That's just an estimate... don't go making any travel plans based on this. :-)

Thanks all. I'll just be patient. :)

My wife's interview is one day short of 5 weeks from the text but that's a fairly consistent timeframe in most cases.

    Congrats!

  5. Congrats, now you can bring the whole family over. Don't tell Tim I said that, just surprise him

Still waiting here too. All depends on your local at this point. It appears you won't get an interview letter until you're about a month out from your scheduled appointment. Some wait a very long time.

second, someone had their ceremony last week. Might have been two even.

Now I see them. I was just looking for the red.

Still the first Phoenix lockbox grad. ;)

  6. I think he will be approved. His overstay doesn't matter except that it makes him ineligible for the VWP. Good luck.

I agree. The overstay was over 3 years ago, only by 1 day, not >180d or >1yr, so there is no ban and the American spouse is in the process of obtaining Australian residency (ties to Australia and all do count).

Apply and see. The worst you have to lose is the visa application fee. Honestly, I like his odds far more than I like my in-laws' odds.

The real lesson in all of this is don't plan your return for the last day of your tourist status. Always leave some wiggle room for things that are out of your control.

  7. My interview was approved!!!

and my oath ceremony is set for June 16. Will tell the details in a bit.

Passed my interview today in NYC and I was told to wait for the mail, which will tell when my oath ceremony will be. I hope it's sooner than later..maybe 2~3 weeks?

Congrats to both of you! The February group is really moving along now!

  8. Oh woow that's impressive!!!!!

So if you can get married so easily, how fast is the marriage license to obtain? 5 minutes?:lol::lol:

I wish it could be so fast in Italy too!

5 minutes was about how long it took to get the license. Because I was a resident of the county (my then-finacee technically was not yet), we had to wait which was OK because we had planned on getting married 2 weeks later. If we had gone 1/2 hour North to a different county to get it, we could have had a 'destination' wedding on the same day!

I know Colombia has (or maybe had?) a 10 day wait/public notice period before getting married. I remember walking by Churches there and seeing pages of notices of upcoming weddings posted outside the doors to meet the notice requirements.

  9. Why the marriage in the US is so easy?

I mean, you just need a passport, right??

In Italy if someone from another country wants to get married there is so much paperwork to do and it takes at least 10 days.

    Why all this difference???

Marriage is a state issue in the U.S. and, as such, there are dozens of different laws.

In my state, there is a 3-day waiting period after obtaining the marriage license if either of the two persons are residents of the county where it is obtained*. If you are both from a different county, state or even country, you can get married immediately after filing for the license.

    *Subject to pre-marital course completion

On a different note, I learned that if a post is being relocated while you are replying the reply will not follow it. I had tried to respond to this twice and was told it no longer existed, so I gave up. I was trying to figure out what was so offensive that it had to be deleted!

  10. Which is partly why its a sticky question now. I told my wife to say there is supposed to be nine, but currently there are 8.

Yep. There are usually 9 but at the present time there is a vacancy so there are only 8 right now.

    I passed the interview!

It went pretty smoothly, and I was only with the immigration officer for about 15 minutes. She was cheerful and friendly yet professional, and apologized for being late (my appointment was scheduled for 10:35, and she called my name at 10:45). Several people ahead of me were late, she said, and so she got behind. I told her it was no problem, I wasn't in any hurry, and even though I got there super early (I didn't know what traffic would be like this morning on the I-35, sometimes it's gridlock) I brought a good book. She made me feel very relaxed.

When we got to her office, before I sat down, she asked me to take an oath that I would tell the truth. Once I did that, she asked for my green card and drivers license (those were the only pieces of ID she asked for). She then started going through my N-400 application, confirming the information that was in there. About half way through she stopped, and I did the reading and writing test--I passed. Then was the civics test. The questions she asked me were:

    1. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

    2. Name three of the 13 original states.

    3. Name one state that borders Mexico.

    4. What is the political party of the President now?

    5. What are two major political parties in the US?

    6. Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?

I got all of the answers correct. She then continued going through my application, and she said that she considers me approved. She said that in about a week another officer would double-check my application and my test results--if there was any concern, she would call me and ask me to come back in. She doesn't think there will be an issue. She also said in about a week I should receive by mail the location, date and time of the oath ceremony. She said it could be in Austin or San Antonio.

And that was it! She took me back downstairs, and said to be sure I say "hi" if I see her at the oath ceremony. Easy-peasy!

    Awesome! Congrats!!

  11. I called IRS yesterday, after 45 minutes on hold they told me that if a transcript is more than 3 years old, they can't send it to me, they will send me a letter stating that I filled my 2011 income tax but can't get a transcript, I'm planning to use this letter in the interview only if they ask me for 2011 income tax

You can still fax From 4506-T to the number in Kansas City (for Florida). Choose option 6b goes back more than 4 years but should be more than enough for USCIS.

By faxing it, you should receive the transcript in about 2 weeks or so.

  12. My wife had never driven a car before she arrived in the U.S. and didn't start learning until the age of 35. She does just fine now and so will you!

And, given that she lived in Bogotá, I am more than thankful that she didn't learn to drive before. That would have been a lot of de-programming!

I'll also mention that I taught her on my car which has a manual transmission. She didn't even stall it on her first try! On her 2nd, 3rd,4th, etc. well, that's another story ;) .... but she actually prefers a manual transmission and her car has one, too.

  13. Just out of curiosity, I wonder how would USCIS handle records (citations, fine/court receipts, etc) that no longer exist?

I know most of you are naturalizing in under 10 years so it's not much of a problem, but those who wait 15 or 20+ years may never be able to produce such documents for incidents that happened well in the past. I know I recently tried to get a copy of a fine receipt from the last citation I received back in 1996 and the Clerk of the Court said they had no evidence that it ever existed because they destroy records after a certain period of time (7 or 10 years, I don't remember.) They couldn't give me proof that I had paid only that they had no record that I owed them anything at that time. Normally, no one asks for records that far back, but the N-400 is very emphatic about "Have you EVER..."

  14. HI everyone,

A few hours after my interview, I got a notification that my status changed to "case under supervisor review". Not sure what to make of it. Would this mean that the IO recommended for approval and it is now under supervisor review or could it mean that they are reviewing the file to make a decision on this speeding ticket issue?

    Thanks!

I think you will be OK and that they are verifying the disposition and that it was indeed only a minor traffic offense. Hopefully, they can do so on their own or, if you do need a court original, that you can get one without having to travel to Texas.

  15. I need help, they are asking for the last 5 years on tax returns, but of course I have all but 2011, there is no way to ask for that transcript online or by phone, I already try, do somebody have a similar problem? and how can I solve it, I don't know if I can just show up on a IRS office and ask for that copy

Look for Form 4056T. It looks like it can be filled out and faxed for faster service.

  16. hi

    you are incorrect,

overstay is forgiven for immediate relatives that enter legally, such as spouses of a USC, parents of a USC, and child under 21 of a USC

unfortunately, hundreds or thousands of parents have gotten the GC this way

it shouldn't be this way maybe, but if they enter, it is possible

I stand corrected. I knew about minor children and spouses, obviously, but I did not know that it applied to parents as well.

I actually don't like that news because it'll probably make it harder for my in-laws to visit us in the future.
