NY State has a huge Immigration rate, we're on the Canadian Borders and we have New York City.
Hey hun,
well i dont know personally about how long it takes cuz im still waiting fot my EAD but Felipe23 said he applied and got is SS card in about a week in NYC so that is a bit strange. I guess it depends on the office?

HI EVERYONE!
WOW! That is quite a roadtrip! Normally that like a day and a half of driving right and with being detained how long did it finallhy take u guys 2 get there? thats crazy! So they took you to the police station and kept u guys there for over 3 hrs?!? wow.. and they supposedly have such a great system that they just punch in ur info and they find ur info... yea right!!!
Glad u made it 2 cali!!
Enjoy ur time there!!
:D

I understand.
WE said "i love her/ him" together, then my wife said "I think you should get married if you love someone so much" lol
CONGRATS ON THE APPROVAL!! AND thx for sharing!!! We all appreciate it BIG TIME!!
:)
CONGRATS!!!
THANKS FOR SHARING
What did you say when she said what was the rush to get married?? I know I will get this question! It was not a rush, my hubby and I just don't believe in living together before marriage or intamacy, we wanted to follow our faith. Wonder if that will be an issue... Sigh!
Well we got married after a year of knowing each other, well 1 day after the anniversary of 1st date. But my husband proposed in December and we got married a month later which they may ask why it was so fast. Well for one thing, i thought it would be a nice romantic date 2 remember, 1 day after one year anniversary and two my mom is kinda old fashioned and didnt like that we were living together without being married. and i think that is a valid point.
And we have been together for like a year and a half now. Before i met my husband I would have never thought I would marry so young (i thought i was gonna be like close to 30 and not 23) and not after only a year but its true, when u meet that person it all changes and you just click and know. It sounds kinda cliche and sappy but its totally true!
:)
:)
I would still back it up with a more concrete reason for the USCIS people though, like my mom in my case, or like u said the faith. The uscis ppl dont seem to be all gooey mushy lovey dovey, lol
I agree about Life is 2 short to waste time!!
Its like u go to work to make money to survive and pay ur bills, but for me the past part is when we both come home and we get to spend time together and laugh and joke.
I start to miss my husband after a couple of hrs when he leaved for work, my mom says we are like teenagers lol
-
I am in the same boat!
I asked. When did you and your spouse conclude to marry?.. He said March 26th..lol I said.. WHAT! That was our wedding day.
I think he gets nervous at the thought of question and INS.
God help us.
LOL Yep!!
He gets nervous and gets all mixed up, I ask when did u decide 2 marry, and he goes I decided and I proposed! lol
He says he gets mixed up with all those dates lol especially american months are confusing cuz he is just learning, mixing up novermber and december.. i told him if ur unsure how the month is called in English just say the date like month 12, the 10th of 2008....
I think practice is good, and I remind him never 2 answer if he doesnt fully understand the question and be calm!
We will be alright, it might take more time but as long as its all honest it will def match!
HUGS!

I think its obviously nearly impossible to read a persons tone from a post, and people might interpret it differently:
Like I asked oh how did u ever manage 2 get a temp SS number? and someone might hear that ohh how the hell did u come up with such a thing as a temp ss number, cuz its impossible, u must be saying something wrong!!
When really the person was only excited and happy that someone did it, cuz it might mean they could do it to.
Also when someone answers: I didn't manage anything I just did...some ppl could read it as "wat are u even so surprised about dumbass, its normal u just get a number duh!! and some could just say: well hun, it was not hard at all, they told me I could.
We can all read it different ways, so lets not get mad when someone asks a follow up question.
SORRY 2 be coming back again, haha i hope i didnt confuse it all even more.
just trying 2 help, if it didn't just ignore the above and read on back to topic
ANYWAY!!!
speaking of misunderstandings...
My interview is in 3 weeks, so i was googling some AOS questions and going through them with my hubby and it was pretty scary and sometimes funny. Mainly cuz his english issnt the best (he was born here but left when he was 2 and came back just 2-3 years ago and started learning english) while I was learing english at school in my home country since I was little. really ironic huh? the NON USC speaking more english? lol
So im worried he might not understand some of the questions or not be able to fully explain his answers.
For example there is a question:
Did you get married to evade our immigration laws?
And he had no idea wat it meant... so answering yes would prob not be a good sign...
Ok or another one which made me laugh:
Did you exchange rings at the ceremony?
and he is like NO... im like what?! what u mean no? we wear our wedding bands everyday! we did exchange rings!
And he goes: Yea but we bought them and we like them we didnt go to the store to exchange them later.... LOL!!
i started laughing, leaving him kinda confused... lol
But yea it definitely helps to google some questions and go through them a couple of times
Like we were unclear when we 1st met, cuz we saw each other once or twice but never really talked until one party..
LOL!! OK ANOTHER question:
What do we have in common? (now literally translated into our language means what do u commonly own)
so he answers: umm apartment, house... lol
I wasnent sure how to answer that question either:
what am i suppose 2 say? well we just click and understand each other?
We both like going to the movies, parks, museums, staying at home cooking, we are both truthful, He added we both like soccer!! LOL (we watched the FIFA finals today...) anyway some questions which seem easy aren't!!
-
Lol you guys.
Its not easy 2 remember everyone's situation on the thread. Especially when there is a lot of posts and a lot of different people. I often ask the same question since I tend 2 4get if I asked already or if it was someone different. And its probably easier 2 ask then scroll through those really long posts!!!!
Let's not get frustrated guys!
:)
:* :* :* <3

RIGHT! God Forgive me but my town would clear out... all those women 20 and under with 6 kids living off the system, trading food stamps to buy drugs, while I drag my butt to work everyday (so they can LIVE off the system) and fight to teach my kids to have morals and values.... Not to mention.. I had to take a Drug test to work.. now if they are collecting governmental funds.. make them pee in a cup!
OH NO.. PREGO is on a rant...lol
back to topic.. anyone get letters
I totally agree!!! Ppl should def take drug tests in order 2 get welfare foodstamps etc etc.. Cuz chances are u need them cuz u don't work cuz u r on drugs..don't have money for food but have money 4 drugs interesting... I agree and u have 2 wrk hard 2 raise ur kids right give them a lot of patience and time so they don't go on a bad road which unforutantly starts even younger and younger for some children
:(

I didn't managed anything, when i applied on 06/21, the lady told me that it would take a day to get me in the system but that i could come after that to get a temp number. That is what i did on 06/23. They printed out a temp card. I received the real card within a week.
I live in Orange County California.
Ohh but the number was the same right? So u could already wrk wit the temp one?
Wow 1 week is fast!!! I heard NYC takes 2-3 weeks! Well great u could do that., good 2 know about that, I will ask about that option when I go 2 the ss card
-
Yes. It is crazy thought that people are afraid of their own elected government will have too much power (which is something they can affect themselves) and still let huge corporations run the country.
Sweden sounds great!!! How come u ever left? Lol
Yea I had relatives which went 2 wrk to sweden, the netherlands etc etc and they said good things. That they treat ppl equally and give equal money for the job. And since its from a country who are also in the european union u can legally wkr there.
Yea the usa is supposed 2 be this huge advamced nation but look how it treats its ppl? Cuz they say this is the land of the free, the land od possibilities so basically eaither u had insurance cuz ur really poor and u have the state medicaid or ur rich anf have money but the hard wrking ppl in the middle class barely tie up loose ends and u don't have money for isurance which is expensive. Or if someone gets really sick like cancer insurance companies have like a million dollar limit which is ok if u never have a serious disease but can end fasy if u have smthing serious. So half way u can end up witout insurance... Well now they finally changed that but ppl are resistant 2 change like u said because of fear and propaganda, cuz insurance companies make millions on ppl!!!
Lol and we get soo stressed bout gettin greencards cuz we wannna be here... Lol
Well hopefully this will change now that everyone will have 2 have insurance maybe it won't be so expensive.

1st email: 06/09 (card prod order)
2nd email: 06/15 (card prod order)
3rd email: 06/16 (aproval sent)
EACard in the mail w/approval notice: 06/19
request for SSN to local SSA: 06/21
request for temp SSN card: 06/23 (got the number)
Applied for Cali DL at DMV: 06/23 (got temp DL while waiting for Driving test)
Driving test: 07/14 (actual French national holiday
)
while writing it down, I think it went pretty fast for a non expedite case ! I hope you all the same luck!
Sorry for Off topic, after all we came here to make our big love story come true and are discovering what living here represents, especially when u come from Europe, and are used to other "standards" regarding work, education, pace of life.... Not everything is bad though, so let's be it and we'll figure it out on the way
Sending good vibes to you all
Wait wait.. Temp SS card 3 days ltr after u file? Wit the number and everything?!?! How did u manage that?!?
-
I got a huge surprise today. I received my EAD card. I never got any notification about it being approved or anything. I am stoked.
oh yay! congratz!! when u going 2 get ur social?
Im hoping mine will be the same cuz it was touched alot..
and bout the teeth: You are a very BRAVE BRAVE person then!!!
I am not letting them take out all 4 at once.... wow never!
maybe not the pain during but after it hurts, I might just get the shots but go and get them taken out one at a time wait until it heals and get another one taken out.... and just go 4 times... yea i heard theres alot of blood after rand u have to be carefull while the blood clot is forming, like no solid foods, dont suck through straws etc... cuz a clot is forming... yea i've been googling it ALOT! lol
yea i get anxious just thinking about it as well! ;(
i cant sleep for a week when I have a dentist appnt scheduled lol
-
I am terrified of the dentist! I need to have my wisdom teeth taken out cuz apparently at 25 teeth are still growing (wat the heck?!?!) now i know why babies are soo cranky when their teeth are growing, not pleasant at all!!
I had a root canal dont few months ago but i think the dentist did it wrong cuz it still kidna hurts sometimes and i need to go back and see him but Im terrified and keep putting it off. Good thing i have insurance now that im married because earlier I paid over a thousand dollars for one root canal!! 1000 dollars i could have had a flight 2 hawaii!! which i really wanna go to! maybe once i get my GC we will go in NOV-OCT might be cheaper since its off season. But then again we wanna go to my home country for xmass for a month so idk. Also thinkin as long as we are in europe in DEC wanted 2 go to like Paris or Greece for new years. Its cheaper if u book from Europe than here.
OoOH btw I been to Egypt couple or yrs back, I went for 2 weeks, 1 week I spent by the Red Sea and Pool in Hurghada and the other it was a trip to different places, cruise across the Nile seeing the pyramids, temple Luxor, Aswan... etc etc.. It was amazing!! its sad how the country didn't preserve alot of the artifacts , but seeing how they have so many years ago it didnt seem so important. But truly amazing!
I was thinking for honeymoon (after religious ceremony which I want to hold in my home country) I wanted to go to Greece, France, Italy but a trip like that is wayy expensive!!
Yea im still waiting for the EAD, hopefully nxt week.
OHHH TGIF!! Go friday!! I was soo tired in the morning at wrk! And i have like 5 more hrs 2 go! Just had an iced cofee and im wired now!!
Im tired at wrk, but if i had 2 sit home for 6 months I think i would go completly crazy! And its like the less you do the less u want 2 do, cuz u get kinda lazy. On my days off, i always have all these plans but I somehow end up sleeping through the whole day. Especially when its this hot.. lol

Anyone got their SSN number yet? I wish I'd waited until after my interview to be honest. I can't apply for any jobs without an SSN so I called the offices to see how long it's gonna take. They said it could take 3 more weeks as they have to 'verify' my documents with DHS. Whatever the hell that means. Cause y'know, I sat there and made my own EAD with my bare hands!!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I can getting annoyed because we can't live on my husbands salary forever, things are tight and I want a job. I've not worked for 6 months and it's driving me crazy. When I went to apply they looked at me like I was a piece of #######. And the woman I spoke to on the phone was rude and I was told I'd just have to be patient. All I want to do is become a functioning member of society and pay my taxes yet I was treated like all of the other bums that have been on SS benefits all their lives!
Jeez, that was a rant. But I'm getting so frustrated.
hey hun, but i mean if u waiting till u got ur greencard I think they also have to verify ur info before they issue You a SS number. And it would probabably take longer, cuz after the interview it takes like 2 wks to get ur greencard? and this way u should have a SS number by the time u go to ur interview. Offcourse after u get ur GC u will have to go to them anyway for them 2 take off the restrictions, but hey then it should be alot faster.
Yea i am also waiting for my EAD to go rush over and get a SS number and wait for that :/
-
lol u guys AGE is just a number!!! hehe
Oohh my EAD got touched again for the 3rd time in the past week, but still only that one email. Hopefully their system is weird 4got 2 send me the email but they did send me the EAD I hope!
I got an email on the 2nd:
On July 2, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
then it was touched again on the 5th...
and today I check USCIS and says same thing but with July 8th..
On July 8, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
Hopefully that means the final touch and they sent out my CARD!

Yep Sensii
this forums talks about EAD but i would imagine AP would be similar.
The person on the forum was saying that if u dont get ur stamp ask them to keep the EAD. I would definitely ask the interview officer about it, what if u wanted to travel before u receive ur greencard, but then again I would also be paranoid that the USICS officer find that suspicious
Ugh im sorry not sure what i would do. Maybe u will get ur stamp and all will be good.
I would be a lil scared, especially for me since i am a overstay. I didnt even apply for AP.
http://www.***removed***/greencard/adjustmentofstatus/advance-parole.html
Advance Parole Document
Advance Parole (Form I-512) for adjustment applicants will be valid for a period which coincides with the time normally required for completion of an adjustment application not to exceed one year. (It means that it is valid for one year looking at the current status of adjustment of status processing.) It is usually valid for multiple entries. One copy for the applicant, one copy for the USCIS at the port of entry and one for the airline (so that they let you board the plane without other valid visa). First time you travel back to the US, you give the appropriate copies to the airline and USCIS, and USCIS will stamp your copy. Subsequent times, you can just show your copy and travel.
Form I-94 should be endorsed with the parole stamp. If Form I-512 indicates no specific authorization date, the parole should be valid for a maximum period of 1 year from the date parole was granted at the Port of Entry. Generally, for the I-485-based AP, the person is paroled in "indefinitely" for I-485 based advance parole.
Advance parole may be accepted by an airline instead of a visa as an authorization for the holder to travel to the US. It can't be issued to serve in place of any required passport. It can't be used to circumvent the normal visa issuingprocess neither is it a means to bypass delays in visa issuance.
Advance parole document earlier used to be a simple piece of paper which may be easier to counterfeit. Sample
Since Nov 24, 2003, USCIS redesigned the travel document and it incorporates increased security features aimed at eliminating a counterfeiter's ability to duplicate them, using the latest state-of-the-art technology. It adds security features that prevent the illegal production of these documents and improves production techniques and processes to shorten the processing times. Produced at the USCIS Nebraska Service Center, it utilizes the same patented personalization process as the currentU.S. passport. This includes a digitized integrated photo, which has proven difficult for counterfeiters to duplicate. It also features a number of covert or hidden features that require sophisticated forensic equipment to view. It is light green in color and resembles the size and shape of the U.S. passport. Refugee travel documents and re-entry permits currently in circulation will remain valid until the expiration dates printed on those documents. The use of new production equipment and techniques has increased the production rate by ten fold of the previous production rate.
Mere possession of advance parole does not guarantee admission into the U.S. as the alien is still subject to immigration inspection at a port of entry to determine admissibility into the U.S.. There also may be bars as described below. You may be subject to "secondary inspection" where you will be taken to a separate room and asked questions.
Travel Warning
If you have been unlawfully present in the US for more than 180 days but less than 1 year and you leave before removal proceedings are started against you, you may be inadmissible for 3 years from the date of departure.
If you have been unlawfully present in the US for 1 year or more, you leave regardless of before, during or after removal proceedings, are started against you, you may be inadmissible for 10 years from the date of departure.
Only unlawful presence that was accrued on or after Apr 1, 1997 counts towards the 3 and 10 year bar.
Certain immigration benefits and time spent in the US while certain applications are pending may place you in a period of authorized stay. e.g., a properly filed application for adjustment of status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), deferred enforced departure (DED), asylum and withholding ofremoval. Bars to enter the US, as described above, may still be triggered if you accrued more than 180 days of unlawful presence BEFORE the date you were considered to be in a period of authorized stay. For refugees and asylees, the waiver may be granted for humanitarian reasons, to assure family unity or if it is otherwise in the public interest.
Waiver of inadmissibility on humanitarian can generally be applied only by those persons that can establish extreme hardship to their US citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse or parents, to assure family unity or when it is otherwise in public interest.
-
ahem
lol Sensii
I read the Q but i dont know the answer ;(
Well Im thhinking NO, cuz the EAD and Advanced Parole are all used before the greencard is approved and on the interview letter I believe it says bring all documents you got from USCIS. But do they take it? I dont know, maybe u should ask on the interview if they dont give u the stamp
Good Luck
-
LOL! WOW! BESA, that's really a WHOLE LOTS OF QUESTIONS! WOW!
But nevertheless, you AOS is APPROVED and that what matters!
And what movie you both watched together!? Grr, i'm gonna drag my hubby to watch Twilight "Eclipse" and if our IIO ever ask my hubby, he will definitely remember! HAHAHA
yea, my husband did not want to see Eclipse, i saw it with some friends and it was GREAT! LOVED IT!! Jacob is a major hottie!!
my friends make fun of me, being the actor is young 18 years old and im 25 but hey i guess hotness doesn't look at age because he has a great Body!!
yea lol, be sure to watch only that movie until the interview, im sure he wont 4get lol
-
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR POSTING YOUR INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE!!
Besa: if you just stopped posting cuz You were approved I for one would have never thought about a interview officer asking questions like those.
And now i can take some time and think about these with my husband so we aren't like WAT? movie? huh? ummmmm
YOU GUYS ARE ALL SOOO AWESOME!!!!!!!!
-
I seem to be observant and remember things pretty easy
. She never introduced herself, per se, but I scoured the room for a bit of info on her down to her outfit and hair color and style lol
I wish I had time to write them down instead of putting them into my memory but even hubby was like "WHOA" cuz her questions were one after the other in quick succession which can be intimidating. Its like a concentration thing
I think most of the questions were dumb; hubby got one wrong and I poked him (hope she didnt see
)...
lol yea but how would she know that he got it wrong? if she doesn't ask the same things You then how would she know its wrong? I guess its all bout looking cool and confident?
I guess, maybe they can read ur face and movements if ur telling the truth or not? but then again I dont know if every USCIS offices is a trainer psychitrist thats knows how to read people.
And yea, i think is sux they dont tell you if u r approved or not.. I mean if u were approved cant they just say so? is that one sentence gonna make things much longer or smth? Or once You leave do they go over ur documents again and make a decision? wat a stupid system..
I bet u r glad u have it over with!!!
:)
:)
ENJOY HUNNY!!
Again major props on remembering all the questions!! Good memory and great concentration!
ohhh: when they take ur i-94 means ur approved? I think they take everyone's and then send u papers anyway if they need more evidence or smth
-
FINALLY!!!! BESAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!CONGRATS!!!!!!!
:jest:
:jest:
is it just me or do those questions sound kinda scary and weird? i didnt think they would actually be askin stuff like that.
And besides if they ask that when the other person is in the room, how do they know the person isnt laying anyway? I guess its just about looking confident
ohh on a side note:
BESA: I have no idea how u remebered all this stuff they asked you!!!
i think the lady was asking the questions and before u answered u were like: oh gimmie a minute to write this all down cuz I bet my friends on visa journey are already giving me warnings... lol I need to tell them these questions or they will be mad.. lol
-
OMG BESSA!!!
THATS SOUNDS FRIGGIN SCARY AS HECK!!!
SERIOUSLY ALL THOSE QUESTIONS SERIOUSLY FREAKED ME OUT!!!
wat the hell, first movie u ever saw together? are they freakin kidding me?!
I dont remeber the title of the last movie i saw wit him now that I am calm and i have time to think about it, how are we suppose 2 remember it under that pressure?
I swear she asked a movie questions I'll be like ummmm: well we dont really go to the movies, we just bought a new big plasma TV and got cable to we just watch cable... lol
ok how about wedding quest. about people , if he just named random names how would she know if thats right??
also wow, he is supposed to know wat degree u have? well maybe because u were on the student visa? thats why she asked so many school questions?
hmmm i never really thought about a solid answer for: what we have in common with hubby?
lol she actually asked if u married? wow
So at the end did she say clearly approved or if u didnt ask the EAD question then u wouldnt be sure?
Well it all sounds VERY SCARY!! God Bless You Guys for getting through it!!
Enjoy Philly!
And be sure to see the historic district, liberty bell etc etc

I did my infopass appointment today at 8:30 am. And it was quite helpful because I was able to know the exact status of my case. They said that my packet was still in Missouri but my schedule has already been set on August 4. The officer also told me the status of my EAD and expect it to be received next week since it already has a card production. She also confirm to me my exact address and make sure it was correct. Another funny thing was when I checked my mailbox in the afternoon, I found my Interview letter.
yay we have the same interview date!!
we are interview date twins! lol Me You and Nartaki
what city are u again?
hmm i scrolled back like 20 pages and i saw from everyone who is posting, everyone pretty much got their interview letter right?!
Good LUCK Everyone!!
-
woo-hooo people are getting their interview letters left and write I see! !YAY~!!
Congrartz BlackROse!
we are definitely moving now!!
Hmm Felipe23
yea from what I remeber the federal bulding always had a line all through the side of the building, omg ppl might be getting heat stroke there by the time they get it..
so maybe garden city is better? yea atleast u wont have to get up at like 5 am like me, but then again 1st thing in the morning it might be less crowded and less people. I def need 2 find some sort of a ride there,(was thinkin taxi but it will prob be crazy expensive) I don't want to be taking the subway, train, bus at 5am.... and once Im approved, hell I can walk back home if i have 2! lol
