K-1 AOS goes to the Chicargo lockbox at the moment
I certainly hope so as thats where I'll be sending mine!
-
The majority of my money is making good interetest so i dont want to move it to the US, but there's enough in there to make up the shortfall at x3, and it's in the UK so it's not as if its in some geneva bank. There's some other money, which I'll move over here in my name. We're going to see if we can add my name to her checking account when we go to the bank this week to discusss all our financial options.

Milky Way here are similar but not the same, and the Mars Bars at Walmart are nothing like Mars Bars

It's a bit tricky as she's self employed, she only had about 9k on her tax return last year so were a bit short. I think she's had a better year, but not sure what proof we have.
I've done some reading up today and it seems my savings are x5 no matter where they are
Seen a lot of people also talking having to have combined financial resources, I hope that's not required as our finances are pretty seperate, aside from me having sent her money a few times over the past year or so. But largely we just live off her income until I can work.... which will be after AOS

We've been looking at this process to some extent as I am short one vaccination. From what i have read you'll need to do the medical again. From what we were told you fill out part one of the form and take it to a local civil surgeon. There's a search tool for these on the USCIS website, we found three in town. Expect it to be expensive however, for just one injection its going to cost us $120

as I see it, if you dont marry within 90 days they will be here illegally, just like overstaying on a tourist visa. I'm not sure where you stand as far as getting them out of your house goes, but they do have to go home.
TBH I think this is one of the biggest risks of the K1 process, because moving in together isn't like a holiday, it's real from here on out; sometimes it doesnt work out

I always thought the question of attire was largely a bit over the top, I attended my K1 interview in jeans and a hoody without raising any eyebrows

My missus didn't earn that much last year so we're going to have to make up the shortfall with savings
Now I know when we applied for the visa my savings which were based abroad had to make up 5x the shortfall, which was fine.
However...
In october I intend to transfer some of the cash into a US based US Dollar savings account in my name, will this be counted x3 as it's in the US, or as 5x as it's not in my by then spouces name?
Also, the rest of the money I have will still be in the UK in a sterling savings account. Will this cause a problem for the I-864? Does the money have to be in dollars or is it still okay in currency based abroad?
Thanks

We're not married yet, so I just need the two forms of ID. I've got my foreign drivers lisence and birth certificate too

I've got a couple of questions about applying for the social security number.
So I know you fill out form SS-5 and you take your passport with the I94, do you need to take anything else to the Social Security Office?
Also, on the form. I assume for my parents I leave the boxes blank where it asks for social security numbers, as they dont live here.
And on question 5, as a K-1 visa holder what do I put. Legal Alien allowed to work? Or something else, and do I need any extra evidence to back up this part of the application
Many thanks

I think the boarder official knows better than you

It still hasn't quite sunk in that I now live in California, but I thought I'd do a quick post about my experience at LAX
I heard they are on the ball there, and it seems they are. She asked me my financees name and went over what the visa means, etc. The white form is pretty easy but what confused me was the customs form. As am I a US resident or not? Apparently I can say I am, and you have to declare the total value of your luggage as a resident rather than as a visitor.
And if at all possible, don't fly to America the friday of 4th July weekend.... is a bit busy!
-
You pay for the interview in advance for K1
-
The student loan repayment rate for the USA is lower than in the UK, because of the lower cost of living. As far as I know (I'll know better next week when I sort this out) you fill out a form which says what you'll be earning and they tell you what payments you need to make.
-
I'm going to be using fox moving and storage, they came up cheaper than sevonseas and they seem to offer a more comprehensive service. Been good responding to emails so far too.
-
Same for me, 6 days including the weekend.
Tickets booked 2 weeks to go!
-
I only had a couple of days between being logged and getting my date
-
Just to add to what my fiancee just said.
I was asked for evidence of finacial support, I gave the the I134 and a bank statement, explaining that her income was a bit short. They asked if the money was mine, and I said yes. And nothing more was said
As for making up the difference in savings, its 3x for assets based in America and 5x for those abroad. So for the UK you'd require about $90k, but London are not picky. As long as you have a reasonably big sum. But it's down to them on the day as there's no published amount.
My advice is always fill in an I134 and if you're short take a bank statement with you

Just heard from DX secure, I'll have my passport tomorrow.
I'm really excited to finally have my visa in hand
-
They asked for my police certificate and even made a copy of it, passport too if I remember right
-
I don't know about the second police certificate question, but as for the medical the sooner you can book the better. There's a good few weeks wait ahead of your appointment. And any time you can save is a definate bonus

Just when you think it's going to start to get easier there's always another suprise. I mean I've been approved now but the stress from making all the arrangements for finishing off at work, arranging for shipping and the insurance, and waiting for my passport to arrive. It's enough to drive you insane. I think really when you think about it, the whole process is going to rule our lives for the best part of two years. Only upside is once you finally get out there at least you have each other to make it easier.
That sounds bad doesn't it? I think I just need to vent today

They are sent to texas, it's been that way for a long time now. They get distributed to Vermont or California after that. But it's Texas who process the payment

We were approved on friday
How long does it usually take before you recieve your visa? I don't want to book my flight until I have it, but am hoping to fly pretty soon
