I still don't understand why we can't e-file when so many other people don't have a problem
We still haven't filed yet, we realised we'd left something out so we need to amend it before we print it all out again, hopefully will do that this weekend
-
-
So we look at our Turbo Tax rejection, and it rejected every page. For some reason we are not allowed to e-file, I had a look online and couldn't find a good reason. So we've printed it out and will see what happens
-
Thanks to the walk through we got the return completed, although the next day the IRS sent us a rejection with maybe as many as 30 things they didn't like. Mostly stuff around the exemption on my wages from before I moved, so it's a good thing we have until April to complete it. I never thought I'd miss HMRC

.....there's a turbo tax forum? I'll have to try and find it

We're having some problems with Turbo Tax, and I've read some threads but can't find the answer
I lived and worked in the UK until the end of June 2011
I entered the USA on the 1st July 2011
I got my green card on the 1st December 2011
I've of 6 months of wages from the UK
And also about $1500 in investment income
When we try and declare it in Turbo Tax its trying to tax me on everything and get us to fill out loads of extra forms
How do I get the exemption from foreign earned income?
When do I become a taxable US resident, I read it's probably before I got my green card, is this correct?
How do I separate investment income from when I was UK taxable to when I'm US taxable
We've got the Home and Business version of Turbo Tax because my wife runs her own business
Please help, we don't have thousands of dollars laying around

I start my job on Monday, only took 10 weeks to find work as an accounting clerk

Congratulations.. How long are you been married?
It will be four months next week

Just back from my AOS interview in Fresno, California
The actual interview lasted 20 minutes at most
I was asked some basic questions, date of birth, both my parents names, where I was born.
We were asked:
how we met
how we met in person
why we decided to marry
Why we decided to live in America
And then a bunch of 'no' questions, like whether I was a spy or a drug addict
The guy was really friendly
We'd been a little worried about evidence but we needn't have been
They asked for
My birth certificate, original and copy
Marriage certificate, original and copy
ID for both of us
My passport
and that was it
No co-mingling of assets, no joint bank accounts, no pictures, no leases or anything like that
Easy!

Mines also on Thursday, we don't have a lot of the stuff it talks about on the appointment letter, so really hoping we have enough evidence
-
I was expecting to recieve mine one month after Biometrics, and I did... to the day
-
Can't seem to find a checklist for the AOS interview
Obviously you have a list of the stuff you need on the appointment letter, but it's not all that clear
Some stuff I think were in the original AOS application so you don't need those, and other stuff is a little vague
So do we have a list we can go by?
And how much proof of genuine relationship do you need at this stage?
-
I haven't read anywhere in the actual USCIS instructions that says a certified copy is required, it just says a copy. My AP and EAD were both applied for in this way and there were no problems, and I don't expect any with AOS either
-
It's a game of chance
While I was having my scheduled appointment I overheard someone being turned away, and from what I overheard I think this was the third time they'd been turned away.
Can't do any harm though
-
You might as well apply, it doesn't cost anything if filed with AOS
I filed mine was no travel plans in place what so ever
I wrote on the form that I was applying 'just in case I needed to travel' and was approved without complication
-
The original estimate was pretty good, however as time went by the VJ estimate moved.
I actually got approved one month almost to the hour after my biometrics appointment
-
AP approved two hours later
-
I recieved notification today that my EAD as been approved for card production, no word on mp AP yet
So a few questions:
Is it unusual to get EAD before AP?
When might I recieve my card?
Can I start working or do I need to physically be in reciept of the EAD card?
FYI my EAD was approved exactly one month from Biometrics
-
You only need one G-1145 but you need to duplicate up on the other stuff, off the top of my head 2x passport photos, marrage certificate and passport bio page
-
NOA1 30th August, Biometrics 26th September
No touches since 1st September
I'm going out of my mind waiting, especially as the expected approval date on VJ keeps going further back. Been out of work 3 months+ now and its doing my head in

You don't need a I-864A for your assets, they should have gone on the I-864, there's a section for it.
If your assets are forign based they have to make up 5 times the shortfall. Bur you can include interest as income, if it'd a significant deposit this might make all the difference
-
From what I've seen you can put just about anything on this form and it still gets approved. I have no planned trips back home but filed for AP just in case, which is what I wrote on the form. From what I read they almost always aprove this for people AOS from K1 and you dont need any specific travel plans laid out in advance
-
September filers won't have their EAD yet, you usually have your biometrics about a month after you file and its another month before you get your EAD. I only just had my Biometrics appointment and I filed at the end of August
-
The I-131 you don't need, but it doesn't cost any money to file it with the I-485 so you may as well. I filled mine and as I dont intend leaving didnt have any dates or anything to put on it, but apparently they usually always approve them, so just in case.
What is the thing you miss the most from your country???

I miss lots of things, loads of different food items. Especially decent tea bags, custard, trifle and groceries that aren't so horrendously expensive. I miss my friends and family and even my old job which was much better than my old one. I miss a decent amount of annual leave too, I was in my old job long enough that I was about to get five weeks off... and now I have two, and even then not for nine months as I need to complete my probation period. I also miss driving which I must get around to sorting out. I also miss free healthcare, decent public transport and a source of unbiast media coverage
Am I regretting coming?
No, I made this decision for the right reason and it will work out for the best, and both my wife and I hold out hope we might be able to move to England one day
