Yellowhead got a reaction from Mrs O. in CA Drivers License
I actually did NOT surrender my Canadian drivers license. I still have it, however I was told by many other seemingly intelligent posters on VisaJourney that my Canadian license is only valid for 10 days upon arriving in California with the intent of becoming a LPR. The police see LPR status, and simply living here as the same thing when it comes to ticketing a driver who continues to use their foreign license while living in California with the intention to stay, or with a pending AOS application. All they need to do is ask for my passport and they will see my I-94, Visa, and entry stamp to prove this 10 day timeframe has run out. The AOS application also proves the intent to stay, therefore nullifying my Canadian license. Although this isn't necessarily readily available to them, my passport shows the intent to file AOS. If I got caught driving on the Canadian license, it would be a misdemeanor, and would result in my AOS case being denied. So, I didn't do something stupid, I did was what was legally required of me so I don't screw up this lengthy process. I still have my license for when I return to Canada, so no need to reapply.
If anyone knows of any constructive way of getting around this, let me know.

Umm you are not even at 5 months in your process. You are told in the very beginning that 5 months is standard. Seems like you have no patience to begin with! Nice way to draw attention to yourself when you I-129f does get reviewed though. Not sure if it will be positive attention.

    I totally agree with you.
Each service center goes through its busy times and slow times. CSC was dragging along a couple of months back and got caught up. I mostly see people who are around the 2-3 month mark complaining about this issue on here, not even people who have reached 5 months plus. People need to learn that patience is sometimes not easy, but necessary. Consider this a test to your commitment to each other and wait it out. Nobody likes having to wait, but be glad that (in most cases) your foreign fiance is safe and healthy. If they are not, I am sure an expedite would be valid in this case. People need to think outside of their own existance sometimes. Perhaps these issues are caused due to humanitarian cases being processed, perhaps funding has been cut, perhaps people are just trying to do their jobs and probably working overtime to make impatient people happy. The letters, constant calls to USCIS and general negativity about the process as a whole does not help workers to process YOUR pending cases any faster. If they drag on to 7 months, 10 months, or a year, then I think these complaints are warranted. Every case is different and I am sure not every application is perfect, so relax a little and think about how grateful you are to have love in your life and the privilege of living in a country that supports (even just a little) your love and vision of your lives together. Not everyone in this world is so fortunate.
If your relationship is strong, you will weather the storm of this process. If you cannot, perhaps you shouldn't be applying after all.
Sorry but I felt it had to be said.

Next time try finding a company that gives you records of your calls. I just found out that mine does and printed them immediately It might be worth the extra effort.

Yellowhead got a reaction from CanuckChick in Mving... where to begin!?!?!
I am a Canadian engaged to an American who has just recently filed the I129f for a K-1 Visa. I live in British Columbia and my fiance and I are trying to navigate the moving process to the USA prior to the K-1 Approval to save some stress last minute. I have not yet found a general thread for moving from Canada to the USA, but if someone knows of one, please direct me! Otherwise, let's get one started to help Canadians moving to the US navigate the process.
    Some general questions to start:
-Bringing a used vehicle to the USA.. are there duties on used vehicles? What documentation is needed? If co-owned with someone else (but paid off fully) is it necessary to take that person off the vehicle ownership?
-Moving belongings across the border: Duties for these? Any tips or suggestions for things to avoid bringing or methods of moving? Uhaul seems to be the only company I could find that rents one way trucks..
-What are the procedures and timeframes for changing over a drivers license, car insurance, etc?
Any tips, suggestions and comments welcome! I am looking for any information I can get at this point so I am fully prepared for the border check and the 6 months I will be stuck in the USA before travel is permitted on K-1!
    Thanks all
