  1. Hi can any of my JA friends tell me how long it takes to get back the medical or will they mail it in. He got his appt for 5/31 and his interview is 6/14

Pick up the SEALED results and take them to the interview with you. My wife got hers yesterday, we figure it stay valid by the time she gets her interview.

  2. My fiance and I will be married this July. He is a US citizen and I am Canadian. I plan to be in the states with him. After some research, we decided to go with the Spouse Visa and follow those procedures in order to permanently reside as a US citizen. However, I am hearing about this IR1/CR1 Spouse Visa for the first time and now feel a little confused. What exactly are the differences between the two and which one is best suited for my situation? Any helpful advice would be gladly appreciated. Thanks! :)

If you have been married for at least two years prior to you applying, then it is IR1 (Immediate Resident), Otherwise CR1 (Conditional Resident).

  4. hello everyone! well im almost at the end of this nvc journey god help me ,,, but i sent the correction that they wanted , over night shiped it and it was signed for 2 days ago, nowwwwww i need to know how long for them to put it in thier computer, going crazy here! its just 1 question we goofed up on and its not corrected and once they see it it is finished! so can anyone give me an idea on how long now,, my husbands so upset saying why nvc taking so long with this and that, he sees timelines where ppl made it through nvc in 3 weeks and such and we been stuck there for month and half which i still think its good time but my planes leaving mid may for egypt so anyone can give us idea of when the case would close, i need some kind of encouragemen here , so does my husband, thanks

I just sent my initial paperwork in and am wondering the same :P . How long does it take from postal acceptance to entrance in a computer. I kind of wish they had the online features that USCIS has. It would sure beat calling all the time. And you would be able to track touches!

  5. Hello everyone,

How are you all.anybody knows any good immegration lawyer.

thanks for all of your help.

    bbye

If I were you, look through these forums (and site) a bit more and decide if you really need one. I started off with no knowledge of the process as of 12/31/2009 and now I am doing everything myself. The Internet and this site can teach you a lot! By doing it yourself, you can also take advantage of shortcuts and reduce the total wait time. Something that is not really possible when a third party is involved.

    Best of luck though!

  6. Just for the record. I keep reading "Make sure you put your case #, beneficiary's name, and beneficiary's Date of birth on all important Documents" or something like that.

What I did, so I did not ruin the authenticity of the documents was... used post-it notes. This way they stay on, but can be removed if NVC doesn't like it. I figure, better that than a RFE for something stupid like them not liking how I put case numbers on every important document.

  7. So my husband finally sends the petition express to Chicago on Friday with instructions to have it delivered today because the office will be closed on Saturday...and sure enough they attempted delivery on SATURDAY and left a notice for pick-up. I have a gut feeling they will not go to pick it up at the post office!

And because it was an express delivery, I can't reschedule online....my husband has to call his local number before 5pm (in which he can't today as he's working) to have it redelivered. The ONLY bonus is a refund of the money because of USPS' error. But who cares so much about the money....the point of expressing it and paying more is to get it there FAST AND SECURE!

I'm already fed-up with the immigration process and it's ONLY JUST BEGUN! I am seriously considering sponsoring my husband to live in Canada. American organizations are retarded and the immigration guidelines are as well.

I just expressed mine. If you pay online you can check the option NO SATURDAY DELIVERY. Although since I mailed mine today, I won't have to worry about that problem.

But you bring up a good point. If you need to express mail something, either

    1. Send at the end of the day (or last collection time) on Saturday so it arrives Monday,
    2. Check DON'T DELIVER ON SATURDAY (and hope they are smart enough to figure it out), or
    3. Send it Priority on Friday (if you live far enough away, check USPS Delivery Estimation First) so it arrives 2nd day on Monday or Tuesday.

    --Edit--

Ha, I just realized something. My advice applies to Domestic Mail. Not International.

For International I guess you could use UPS. I know they don't deliver on Saturdays, then again they might be slower (or more expensive for faster service).

  8. You would get tax transcripts for 07 and 08 and you would send your 1040 with all schedules & W4 copy for 2009. Tax Transcripts for 2009 won't be avaiable until June so thats the best option you have. IF you efiled then you can print a copy and usually e-file says 'Electronic signature' If you used Turbotax.

I requested for my Tax Transcripts for 2009 on April 15 and got them a week later. It just depends when you filed. If you waited until the 15th until you filed of course you will have to wait. But if you filed early, they might have them already.

  9. I don't think it would hurt. There should be a phone number of your NOA1 that you can call USCIS and ask.

Another alternative is to wait until she is about to become a citizen and do it on the N-400. That will take a few years though.

By the way, a cheap trick to call anywhere in the US (if you are living abroad) is SKYPE. I fill my wife's account with an American credit card and it tricks it into thinking her account is from the USA. Then she can call my cellphone or any other US phoneline for pennies on the minute. Plus 800 numbers are free. My best advice would be call or email whoever has your application at the moment.

  10. I'll be flying Orlando - New York - Moscow - Minsk soon. I have a belarus visa. Do I need a Russian transit visa just to stay in the airport 3 hours?

YES I have flown to Belarus before. You will need a transit visa. This is because Moscow has two airports, a national and international. You will have to transit from the international to the national airport to get to Belarus (both are considered the same airport: SVO). Since Belarus is a CIS state, the flight going to it will be in the national airport. Because you need to leave the international airport, you WILL NEED A TRANSIT VISA.

I recommend flying through Frankfurt or Warsaw to avoid the extra Visa.

  11. Here is the scenario.

My wife lives in Belarus (A CIS country). This requires her to get a VISA to enter the European Union. She needs to go to Poland for her CR1 Interview (The embassy in Minsk, Belarus does not handle immigrant visas).

The Polish embassy in Minsk, Belarus requires purpose and proof before they will issue her a visa. How is she able to prove her intent is to go to the US Embassy in Warsaw to Interview for the CR1 Visa?

Will the NVC mail me any documents which I can forward her as proof?

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks.

  12. Was yours from 5/2009 also

    Yea mine was 5/2009.

You find your version number on the bottom left part of the first page. The expiration date has nothing to do with it since on the bottom of the center page it says "Previous Versions are Obsolete". But some might get though. I just don't want to chance it. It would be faster for me to get the correct version from my wife, than me wait for an RFE to be generated and sent.

  13. Well the version I have is 5/2009 and it has the email on there but I called this morning and they were nice at all and told me I just have to wait they cant tell me anything about the form.

I called too and they said it would generate an RFE if I were to send mine in. :S

The thing that sucks is all they changed in the versions was the Security Privileges of the PDF file (you can no longer modify or add form boxes). They also added an auto complete feature (it now autofills 36-38 based off what you enter for 1-3). What pisses me off is even after these changes, they still have stupid spots where you can fill in the form where it says DO NOT FILL THIS PART IN. For example, on page 2 you can type in the "signature of the applicant" and even though 45 says Do not write below the line, a consular will help you... you still can fill it in!

I had my wife express mail me the new documents today.

  14. A word of caution. I pre-filled all the forms and had everything to go and the NVC updated the DS-230 form nullifying my form. Because of this I have to get a new form (and my wife who is over seas needs to sign it). If I were to send in the current form, it would generate an RFE.

A way to prevent this is to NOT DOUBLE SIDE the pages. The form date is on the bottom of the left of the first page. If there are changes to the form number, but page 2 (the signature page) is unaffected, you can reprint pages one, three, and four. In the end, you will want to double side the pages, but not until the end. Page 2 is the critical page, since mine was signed. I have to start all over because of the date adjustment.

  15. wow blessmeindeed mine was entered in the system on 4/12 and i call lastnight and it was still being process yours went fast

Damn! Mine is version 05-2009! I was about to send it in too. There are no differences in the first and second page that I could see. I wonder if I re-fill the third and fourth page for my wife (using current version) and send it in if they would RFE me.

It would take me about $30 and 7 days to get a new copy from her :S. Should I send it and see? Should I let them know that page 3-4 is modified to be correct?

    It's with the e-mail address..

I have 05-2009 and it has an email address. I wonder what they changed.

  16. I am sticking to Priority Mail. I know there is a ongoing debate if Priority is faster than First Class, but I would hope USPS understands the meaning of Priority :P .

Express Mail is too expensive! And for what? One less day of processing? We will all be subject to administrative waiting, I don't think two to three days here-and-there will matter much.
