  1. Just called NVC as I knew it wouldnt be as busy this time of day. Got through on the first try and spoke with someone within 3 minutes. The operator did confirm that the case is waiting for an interview to be scheduled at "Madras", funny he should call it that, since the name is officially Chennai and that they are still using the MDR code for case numbers. Anywho, he went on and on about how the NVC schedules interviews the second week of every month for the following month and that my case cannot be scheduled for May and will be in in line for June but that there are no guarantees. This was all sweet music to my ears, although I wasnt turned on  , is something wrong with me? :bonk:

I guess I am officially on the waiting for interview list.

Maybe now the wifey will be a little excited. No wait, she listens to the AVR, and that still isnt updated..sigh

  2. Hey Hobo,

its almost same here My wife got her Passport PCC at the end of November, and she got her City/distrcit police cheif PCC in first week of March. we submitted our paperwork to the NVC on 03-29. So we good with the city/district police one. But I inquired with the Chennai consulate regarding the validity of the pcc ( they wrote me back, saying that both pccs have to be within 6 months of the interview date...eventhough they both valid of ONE FULL year... and even told me that the important thing for them is the Passport PCC only, not the Local/district police one. I know its no-brainer since NVC wanted both from us. anyway to-be safeside today she re-applied at the passport office again, along with the application she gave them thecopy of the city police pcc.

Hobo I think you need to get the passport office pcc again, since you got it before me.... E-mail the chennai iv inquiry. SJ what you know about this?

I did not know the Passport PCC had to be less than 6 months old. My wife's PCC was issued on 1/18. So, I guess it all depends on what date in June she has her interview. If it's before the 18th of June, then it will be less than 6months since she got her Passport PCC. I wonder if they will let her use the same one if its a couple more days than 6 months. I guess I'll wait till the interview date is assigned and then worry about this. Maybe I'll email Chennai about this when I get the date and find out if they will let it slide.

    Congrats Sean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Woot wooot

Thanks Mrs! A looooong awaited congrats...

  3. oh cool - then we're in the same exact boat together! welcome on board dude!

actually that's kinda cool, cuz we can sort of track each other. i actually emailed chennai last monday to see if they could give me an interview date (since my CC was apr 14th). i didnt expect to get a date; was just floating the waters. they emailed back and said to contact NVC since only NVC schedules interviews. another little titbit - i asked them if i, the USC, could be present for the interview. they actually emailed back and said that apparently the USC spouse can ask for permission to be present at the interview via email (see exact text below: "

This is in response to your inquiry. Only the applicant will be permitted to come in. If youwish to come in with her, you must send in a request by email and then you will be notified if you are permitted."). i would really love to be there with my wife and so initially i had thought that i would just be sweltering in the hot sun outside (since you're still allowed into the consulate as an USC), but now there may be a chance.

anyway, i'm curious - which town did your wife have to get her PCC from (that was such a pain)? my wife's getting her local PCC (in bangalore) on monday (we sorted things out with the local police station last week with bribe etc)...

That's good to know that you can request permission to accompany your wife at the interview. That will make things easier for everyone involved. My wife's from Hyderabad and they give grief in the form of asking for an official request from the NVC in order to issue an NVC. But the real problem was the fact that there were communal riots in the city right after she applied. That had delayed it by about 20 days. But then the power of the Rupee got the job done, as usual...

Cute! Good thing the AVR will update soon. Or perhaps she can call and confirm it. Have you confirmed with the operator yet?

I havent spoken with anyone yet. The AVR is definitely not updated and I couldnt hold to speak with someone since I'm at wwork. I shouldnt be on VJ either. ;) But dont you tell on me..

funny that's how my wife is too (sorry hon! she does login as me and reads this). but yea we were happy over the SIF and CC, but then started freaking out about hte interview date. the response is always a very stoic "a CC's all well and nice, but let's see the interview date and letter first before jumping up and down"...

    Hahaha...LOL Hobo...LOL

    :rofl::rofl:

  4.

    Oh yeah!!! Congratulations!

How did The Missus take it?

Thanks Bears! She's actually not convinced yet. The whole process has made her a little pessimistic. She refuses to believe it until she hears the AVR change, which it hasnt yet. And here I am, all excited and hyper, and she's asking me "what the hell's wrong with you?". I so love her... I just wish she was on VJ too, that way she woulda known...

  5.   CONGRATULATIONS yaar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i knew you would!!! this is ALL our time! just bask in the moment; as i said before, you can start stressing for the june interview date starting tomorrow  actually you might just be one of the lucky ones and get an interview date before some of us, since you're Delhi consulate (chennai seems to schedule only in 2nd week of May :(

Thanks Hobo! But I am actually Chennai consulate. So I'm in the same boat as everyone else now. But at least I'm in the boat..

  6. Ok folks, I think it's safe to take me off the waiting for SIF/CC list and put me on the waiting for interview email list.

Yes, that's right! After all the stress and heartbreaks and sleepless nights and dreams of a possible RFE, my day has finally arrived...Thank you Almighty!

I followed you guys' advice and went home, made my self some good food, ate it watching Final Destination2 and then Untraceable(both awesome movies btw) and then was about to turn in when I remembered that the payment portal updates at 10:30pm and so I decided to check at 11:30 and there it was... That sweet little message in red saying my case was not eligible for further processing at NVC and ... who cares! It's done, over with. I'm so glad I'm in time for a June interview.

Thank you to all of you at VJ who are my second family now for all the help, support, advice and courage you have provided me all along. Could never have done it without ya'll.

Now, where do I go to party? hmmm...

  7. SJ, I think waiting for Friday would be better. What is there to distract you until then? A special welcome home surprise for your wife. Making evidence. Taking a trip to your favorite restaurant or coffee house. Or bar. hehehe We're always here to distract you, too.

I keep telling myself to wait till Friday, but my devil half doesnt want to and keeps trying only to disappoint the other "good" side of me. And going to my favorite restaurant does sound good, or maybe even a movie as Hobo suggested. "Hobo", I kinda like that... :D

Oh, and a big thanks to all of you for keeping me sane throughout the process, seriously, this would seem like a Black Hole withouth ya'll here to cheer me up. (L)

  8. Good morning ...

So, my SIF failed today. About bloody time. Still have no idea what the Embassy had to do with it. Maybe we were gonna get hit with an RFE for 2009 taxes and the Embassy decided it could be provided at Interview. Either way, I don't really care now. No more NVC - well, sort of until I get my interview.

I love youse all ... :star:

    Grats on the SIF Deb!

hang in there bro! but another option is to just distract yourself with doing other things. maybe you go to a movie or something tonight? what you need is timepass that will have you doing other things. or maybe you can ask for some kind of travel assignment at work (if you are fortunate enough to work in such an environment). you have to do somehting that doesnt make you just stare at the clock and the calender, or you will truly go mad!

You WILL get it - just hang in there. your PCC was the only source of your RFE and they already acknowledged that; so in a way, it is sort of ok, since there is nothing else wrong. its just a matter of opening the mail and checking the box off, so dont worry. you've done what you can and now you WILL get the SIF!

I know what you mean Hobo. It's just one of those times I feel unfortunate that I work in IT and that I have a PC at my disposal all day so I keep trying to Sign in into that stupid portal so many times a day. I will try not to. Hopefully the PCC will do it for me. Am I really the only September filer left here?

  9. OMG! SIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta run...class is about to start but I am SO excited!!!!

    Congratulations Vanessa!!

  10. SJ man, i truly feel your pain! I think you will get it this week. actually as long as you get it within the next 2 weeks, you should be in time for june interview. heck, I had my CC on the 14th and it would be really nice if NVC gave out interview dates when the cases get completed; seems like it does so for Delhi and Bombay, but not chennai - frustrating!!! so hang in there, dude! funny i just visited my wife last week and got back this AM from bangalore. one of the things i personally took care of is getting the PCC from the local police stattion (already got it from passport office). had to bribe the guy 1000 Rs to get the job done, but at least i feel good that I was there to help my wife get it...

anyway, you will get it this week - PICTURE it positively and it WILL happen!

Thanks for the support Hobo. I relly wish NVC moved a little faster on RFEs just because we were in line first. Oh well, I guess I still have time to make it in for a june interview.

SJ--SIF for you in today/tomorrow!

Thanks Sach, I really need to get some relief from all this unnecessary stress of the possibility of another RFE until I SIF/CC.

  11. How much longer before I SIF??!!

I am really getting impatient now after waiting sooooo long. And all they need to do is enter my PCC in the system and call my case done. They received the RFE response on the 13th and opened the mail on the 20th. How difficult can it be to enter one stupid little piece of information in a computer. Bunch of nincompoops they are...

I hope I SIF in the next 2 days. I did call them and they said they recieved it but havent reviewed it yet. I mean come on, seriously? Review a PCC?

I just hope they dont come up with something else at this time. I've had enough of NVC. I need to move on to the next phase of waiting for the interview date assignment already...

  12. Update:

I just called the NVC on a whim and the AVR is now updated!

It says, " The NVC has received your checklist letter response on April 20th 2010 and is under review. After review, you will be notified of the outcome"

Wow, that was quick, they only received my RFE response on the 16th and it was brought in from the mailroom on the 20th. I wonder if the fact that it was sent to the "DR" made a difference in helping me jump the line (Sorry folks)...

Anyway, I guess I can now start trying to log in and wait for the SIF.

    Wish me luck!

  13. Our CR-1 interview is scheduled for May 12, 2010 at the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, India.

I'm putting the finishing touches on our interview package. I'd like everyone's thoughts on what I have compiled so far. Have I missed anything important? Is something redundant/unnecessary? Do you have better suggestions for organization? Thank you for taking the time to review and respond. I really appreciate it. :star:
