This email came in about 2 hours ago:
Thanks for forwarding the requested information.
We feel glad to inform that upon review of the documents , consular officer had approved applicants application for immigrant visa. Applicant will be receiving her passport , visa and visa packet within a week by courier.
Chennai, IVU.
-
hey SEAN JOHN congrats for the partial approval...please check the embassy website about the email address..i guess its CHENNAIIV@STATE.GOV instead of CHENNAIUV@STATE.GOV.. if you sent it on the wrong email address then you wont get an autoresponse from them..best of luck..
Thanks nesh, can you or someone else please confirm if this is indeed true for the Chennai Consulate?
My wife did not receive an auto-reply when she sent the email to chennaiIUV@state.gov.

Notarization is usually for a signature, isn't it? Would a regular notary notarize a copy? Did you have to sign it or something?
Also, please see my question on letter of employment that I added by editing my previous comment.
Thanks in advance, and congratulations!
Yes, I did have to sign it for her to notarize it since they only notarize the signature as you said.
My wife submitted copies since I had submitted the originals to the NVC.
-
Thanks SeanJohn, for the detailed report. We would await the checklist as it sounds really interesting.
Was the copy of your passport notarized, or was it just a regular photocopy?
Yes, I had notarized the copy of my US passport before I sent it to her.

Hello folks,
My wife interviewed at the Chennai Consulate in India on June 9th 2010 at 9:00AM.
Since I was'nt there at the interview, these events are presented as told to me.
She arrived in Chennai the night before and stayed at the Crystal Residency Hotel right across from the Consulate and practicaly walked there the morning of the interview. The security people were arranging people to let them in based on the time of their interview. So she was sent in at 8:45AM for her 9:00AM interview. The security people checked all her papers and envelopes and let her through.
Once in, she was called by an Indian lady who asked her a few basic questions like when we got married and whether we had met before the wedding. She had her sign the DS-230 and asked her for the 2009 tax returns. She gave them to her and then she looked them over and asked her where the W2s were. My wife wasnt aware of their existence since I had forgotten to send them over with the taxes. She told her she didnt have them. The lady then asked her for my employment letter and a copy of her Birth Certificate and gave her the originals back. She also asked her for a copy of my US Passport, which luckily I had sent at the last moment.
She was then given a number to go and get her fingerprints done and then wait for the CO to call her.
The CO called her after about 2 hours. He was apparently a nice white guy.
These were the questions she was asked as far as she can remember:
1)When and how did you guys get married?
2)Who petitioned you for the CR1 visa?
3)How long has your husband been in the US?
4)How did he get there? (I cam on an immigrant visa myself)
5)Who sponsored his immigrant visa?
6)How many days did he stay when you two got married?
7)Has he visited since then? (I havent, but he didnt ask why)
8)How do you communicate with him? She replied through phone and handed her the more than 40 pages of phone records from my Calling Card and Vonage accounts. She said he looked a little dumbfounded at that many calls
9)How else do you communicate besides phone calls? This is where she handed him the huge stacks of emails and chats. He looked at them and laughed saying, "You are well prepared, arent you?"
10)Where does your husband work?
11)What's his job title?
12)What are your qualifications and educational achievements?
13)Will you work when you get there? What work? Will your husband agree to it?
14)How many siblings does your husband have?
15)Do you have any pictures of you two together? She handed him the Wedding and Reception albums. He asked her if she had any other pictures besides those. She then handed him two other albums of when we went to the mall and some other places when I was there.
He looked at one and said, "You said he has 3 sisters?".She said "No, 2".
"Who's this third female here?". "That's his sister-in-law".
"Do they all live together?"."No, the sisters live with him, but the sister-in-law is in Canada".
He then told her everything was ok except for the W2s. He gave her some kind of a checklist of questions that he had which had their email address on it and highlighted the W2s and asked her to email them. He told her the Passport will arrive in 7 days of them receiving the email. He kept her passport too, so I guess that's a good sign.
My wife seemed happy even though I was a little grumpy at having made such a stupid mistake.
She said the checklist he gave her was very elaborate and she thinks it will definitely help everyone who will be interviewing. I asked her to scan it and email it to me so I can post it here on VJ.
That's it. She got home and I had the email all typed out with attachments and all for her to just forward to them.
She sent it to them at 12am IST.
We hope she gets everything back soon so I can paying through my nose for these in-season-outrageously-priced-airline-tickets.

Thank you all...
The email is already sent and so the ball is in their court now.
Hope they reply to the email acknowledging it,especially since I asked them to.
It's a waiting game all over again now.

I am from Hyderabad but the Police Office here has the same rules - they want a letter from NVC requesting the PCC.
I did write a letter to the NVC with my DS-230 submission requesting them to give me permission to bring the PCC to the interview instead since I couldnt get one without a letter, and they still hit me with an RFE for it. I took the RFE and used that to acquire the PCC,although communal riots delayed that too by about a month or so.I could share the email I received from them, but its in PDF and it has my wife's name on it, dont know if that will do you any good. Although I would discourage any form of cheating with the US government just so there are no problems in the future.
Good luck!
Here's the RFE body from the email I got.
There were three pages total, first one said there is missing information.
Second one was the barcoded cover sheet to be sent in with the pcc.
And the third one had this on it:
Maybe you can put it in a word Doc and print it out with your names...

This is only one hurdle... you are going to celebrate soon.
Make sure that she put NVC case number or any receipt number that embassy has given her.
Congratulations is on the way.
Q - Did you send her the tax return or Tax transcripts from IRS? (I think with tax transcripts you don't need to send in W2)
They lack one very small thing - SJ, this is not even a bump in the road after everything you have been thru! I know, easy for me to say, not my spouse! Won't be long, though, and she will finally be home. So I will give you a partial congrats!
Aw, man!!! That sucks. Hopefully, they'll respond soon. They kept her passport, yes? Make sure the case number is attached to it. I'd also follow up in a day or two by a phone-call and email. Did they give her a specific email address/fax # to send it to them?
Guys, it's either IRS tax transcript OR 1040/W2/1099s.
Thanks for the support guys. I already emailed her the scanned copies of my W2s. They did give her an email address to send ithem to,although I dont know if its a generic one (chennaiuv@state.gov i think).
I didnt send the Tax Transcripts since I had all the returns available.
Sach-They did keep her passport,so I guess thats a good sign. They told her specifically that she need not come back and an email will work just fine. You are right, I should call and follow up after a couple days.
Deep or Married, which one of you had requested an earlier interview date? How soon did they respond?Did you get an auto-reply?
-
Hello Everyone...
My wife's interview went OK, except for the part where they found out that I messed up. I sent her the 2009 tax returns and forgot to include the W2s. How dumb of me!! I've been kicking myself ever since she told me that. But she did say that they told her to go home and email the W2s and that they will send out the passport and POE packet as soon as they receive the email. I hope I havent delayed the process too much by this one big ####-up!!
I'm so mad at myself right now.
P.S. I already sent her the email with the W2s. She's going to send it in by noon EST. Does anyone know if she will get an auto-reply to her email? How good are they at responding to queries? How long do they usually take?
So until she receives her package in the mail, I guess I cant celebrate... bummer
-
Thank you! Still super happy.
SJ!!! You're up! With Sandra close after! Good luck you two!!
Good luck, SJ! Keep us posted, ya?
Thanks both and the rest of ya'll...
She landed safely at Chennai this AM (8pm her time) and checked in to her hotel. I think we've done the best we could and we can hope and pray for a bright outcome. Good luck to us and SandraAhmed...Will keep everyone posted.
-
Hmm no it is not.
There there are 8 boxes on the "head" of the notice. receipt number, receipt date, priority date, notice date, page, case type, petitioner, beneficiary (both only contain our names.
Then there's our address, notice type (approval notice section: husband or wife of us citizen and then the notice text that says it's approved and being forwarded to NVC.
Should I be worried now?
I thought the A# was your Alien Registration Number ("Green Card").
Unless I am mistaken, I dont think you need to worry about it.
-
APPROVED!!! Thank you, Lord!
He'll pick up the visa on the 18th.
Details to come tomorrow. I promise.
Thank you, everyone, for your advice, support, and well wishes. Heaven knows we needed it.
I'm sticking around for sure. I've got to be here to hear all of the rest of the good news.
WOOOHOOOOO!! CONGRATULATIONS Kari!!!

Congratulations to all the recent approvals/SIFs/CCs!!
My wife is *almost* ready for the interview on the 9th. I am gonna send her the last two pieces of information today, i.e. my most recent paystubs and a scanned copy of my Indian passport on which I had travelled when I went to get married since I wasnt a citizen then. I also need to send her a format for the friends/family proof of marriage letter. Does anyone have a sample? Or maybe someone could point me to where I can find it on VJ.
Thanks a bunch everyone and good luck to us all!!

No need to send originals. Just make sure she has a copy of everything though, including the 2009 tax returns and W2s.
Good luck!
