But they are FINALLY happening.  What a journey.

Awesome that some of you have completed this process! Congratulations to the new American Citizens.
Alas, I spoke with a USCIS agent and the St. Paul MN office is currently working on February applicants and she said it could be another 4 months for me
She also said for this office it is a 8-9 month process start to finish.
Guess good things come to those who wait

Thanks for the reply I actually just read at the bottom of the NOA that the case is tracked by the application number on the biometrics letter, not the NOA. Whoops, didn't notice that part before At least I know there's nothing wrong with my case

Where has the time gone? I can't believe it's already time for more paperwork. I can't say I missed it and it's going to be much more challenging as I have to chase after a 9 month old boy that doesn't like to sleep. EVER.
I'm glad to see that DizzyLox created another group for us though. Who needs to pay a lawyer when you have Decemberites to help you through the process!

This thread sure put a big smile on my face! I will say that I am 90% used to living here. It was a bit more adjusting that I thought it would be but all is well and I am staying! Michael is the love of my life We can file our ROC between March and June. I am doing a quick trip to Canada tomorrow to see my beautiful grandchildren and then will hunker down with preparing our package. Did I read correctly that this thread may continue on facebook? I also am interested in hearing about plans/thoughts on naturalization....I know one step at a time but it doesn't hurt to learn more about it

I have been thinking about the Decemberites a lot lately! I still can't believe we made a friggin' Decemberite cookbook. Talk about over-the-top.... and at the same time, completely and utterly epic. Whatever happened to Mariye??
We filed for ROC last month-- so again, not just K1 but also ROC Decemberites... three years later almost to the day!
I don't think we sent in enough evidence... we sent tax records from last year, car insurance, a lease agreement, pictures, proof of our honeymoon cruise (a year and a half after getting married, ha!), and a few other things, but didn't really show co-mingling finances. I think we might want to go and get more proof of this from the bank and send it in with the receipt copy.
No babies yet on our horizon. Y and I are both 30... but in some ways with immigration stuff, I feel like we are 10 years behind where we should be. I'm finally getting my master's degree, and the US doesn't accept Y's degree, so he's been working and going to community college and hopes to transfer to a 4-year schools soon. With two tuition bills and only working part-time, no time or money for children for us yet, though it'd be nice sometime in the next few years.
Anyway-- great to see so many familiar faces.

My green card was approved October 1st, but I didn't get electronic notice or anything so it was a nice surprise when it came in the mail today!

I can happily report that after getting an rfe last march and getting our case transfered to CSC on october 9th green card production was ordered. My husband is working and has his permit and is adjusting very well. Glad to see we are still alive and kicking on vj everyone

I should probably add that I had my resume checked over by my husbands "professional" friends, and asked them to be brutal - my reply was that it was great, and i should have no problem finding work.
During the interview, she asked me to describe what my country did for AP, which was identicle to what she describes. Only difference was 2 procedures to do with tax id's at the end of the year. Which would not worry me in the slightest.
Her reason I guess for suggesting the other job was that there was too much for me to learn. any new job is filled with learning, regardless of where you come from, it is different for every company. Learning new finance forms is pretty easy when it's all you've done for 10 years.
Example - tax systems very different between UK & US, but a little bit of research and i did our joint tax return. I know more about american money matters than my husband who has lived here his entire life
To the person saying I need to lower my standards - I think I have considerably. I have applied for retail jobs, jobs that pay $8 an hour, but they don't consider me because of my experience in other fields (well i assume, or maybe i'm not qualified for that either, who knows)
You're right I asked for opinions, but I don't only have two choices - lowering my standards or staying unemployed. I can return to the coutry who thinks I'm a desirable worker and get a great job. So if it comes down to taking a job in Mcdonalds or going home? I have no hesitation, say whatever you want about me!

The only time you likely will not get an RFE is when you are holding the GC in your hand and clearly finished with the process.

Everyone is welcome to miss whatever they want, but I think it's useful to point out that the US is a big place and there are many cultural differences within the country itself. Some of the things people are saying about "what the US is like" is completely foreign to me, and makes me wonder where they live.
Some thoughts I have while reading this:
Only discount shoe-stores display shoes by size. Any normal retail store will display a single pair and you ask for your size. Makes me wonder if that person husband is just taking them to payless for shoes.
I have never seen a place without sidewalks. No sidewalks?
There are plenty of places with a good food/restaurant culture where people go to relax and talk. I think if everyone just scarfs and leaves, maybe it's a diner.
I think one of the harder things about moving somewhere else is that what seems to be the same actually is different, and it's hard to know if it's just that place or if it's the country as a whole.
I think a lot of these things may be due to cultural differences between the couple... anyone read "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and the chapter on "words misunderstood?"

I agree...you can always find an alternative to a food you liked in your home country but there is no alternative for your family.

I havn't been on this website in so long. When I can remember going on this site mutiple times a day for a year while going through the k-1 process. I'm very thankful my husband Nattoy made it to this country and has been a better man for me than I could have ever imagined. He got a great job and mine is ok for now. We started out living with friends and now have our own apartment and continue to build our lives together. Things are not always easy as I had to be patient with him as he relied on me to show him the ropes. Sometimes I would get upset that he didn't know something. LOL Which is why I learned to be patient and understanding to someone in America for the first time. He is very smart and has come a long way. We even argued quit a bit after about 8 months of him being here, married life is a whole different ball game, but learning and growing in our relationship has brought us to a point where we treat each other respectfully for the most part. We have both givin each other many lessons and a richer life. I feel the love he has for me and am very greatful. Without this website I wouldn't have beable to do it. We will be married a year April 30th. I feel I've found a diamond in the rough:) Maybe some kids in a few years :)
For anyone affraid in the process,if your willing to do the work, and your motives are good and right, God will take care of the rest.

So today is my first time returning to US since receiving my green card in April. We are flying into JFK from Heathrow airport having been here over the holidays. Checking in was smooth, which was nice to finally not have to worry about all the questioning, I am almost starting to feel like a US citizen.
