  1. imo - bring all, go back to SSA office, talk with supervisor.

    Having 'USCIS VERIFICATION' needed (or DHS verification) is a silly process.

    A supervisor can get it done in either 20 minutes or 1 day.

    For a clerk, it gets done in batches , and never pay attention to timing - they not have god access to the computer.

    'get it done' - here, means to 'do stuff' with the DHS electronic system. A supervisor, normally, can do this. A clerk, cannot.

    repeat - get back to that SSA office.

    Just to give an update. I went back to SS, spoke to the same lady and she was nice enough to tell me that Homeland Security's Birthdate didn't match the birthdate on his application. Had to do an INFOPASS, because USCIS/Homeland Security would tell us jack on the phone about how to fix it.. so 2 hours down to Charleston, for 3 seconds of "Oh, you need to stop into any airport and have customs correct their data entry" Apparently the officer at POE typed the wrong birthdate. At least in this ONE case, SS was helpful..

  2. trying to adjust to the time difference and the jet lag. Went to bed at 6:00pm last night, woke up at 3:00am and couldn't go back to sleep... watched a movie and finally decided to get out of bed.

    Was reading about everything for AOS and had a sad thought.. we won't all be doing this together. Some of us will be done before others even start... but at least we'll be able to help the ones who start the process after us.

    Truth is.. I don't want to join some other group to do this. Would rather stay right here in our September forum :)

    Fuat and I decided to do a quick Civil Ceremony so we could get everything done as soon as possible.. and will then try to do a "family ceremony" when our families can be together. I am terrified at the thought of telling my parents that we are going to just go do this as soon as possible and have a family wedding later.. I think they are going to be upset. My brother eloped... it really hurt my mom.

    His sister is having a baby and we want to make sure we do AOS and he has his advanced parole in time to go home for that.. so if we stick with our original plan, and go out to Vegas in a few months, he won't have his travel documents in time.

    Personally, I don't care if we do this in our Pajamas at city hall... but I can't help but think of my family. His family can't be here.. and that makes me feel even worse if we do something with my family and not his... especially since his family is still pretty upset about all of this.

    My cousin did the quick ceremony, and a full blown out wedding later, but didn't let the whole family know she was actually already married. I don't think I can do that to them either.

    Wish there was an easy answer... but will just have to hope my mom and dad understand.

    If you talk it over with your family, I am sure that they will understand or at least offer up alternatives that will make everyone happy. We have been in the same boat. His parents are coming and his best friend is coming, but an entire Italian village of family is unable to come :). We decided to do one here and one there. Maybe if you and Fuat and your family talk it out you will be able to find a way to do a ceremony there for his family.

    Good luck to you.. (L)

    (Rockettes Saint Patty Special)

    Today was a better day, I guess..

    But about yesterday. I took my car to get the oil changed in it and a body lube(which made me teehee), and I get a call saying that my car needs 2 new front tires and they want $300 for them. Hell to the no on that. I drive a Kia Spectra, not a Lexus, folks. I'm not paying 300 for 2 tires. I can find them somewhere way cheaper.

    Then, when one of the girls I work with took me to pick up my car I put my iPhone in the holster on my hip and when I was getting into her huge SUV apparently it hit the door and fell out. I didn't realize it until about 2 minutes later when I went to make a call. I used her phone to call the girls back at the store and have them look and it was already gone. That parking lot was empty when we left so someone at one of our neighboring stores had to of saw it and picked it up. So I lost my company phone. I mean, I actually bought the iphone(the company gave me a Blackberry Bold), but it had my company sim card in it which they were probably trying to use. Of course I called it no less than 100 times but no one ever picked it up.

    I've been watching craigslist today to see if someone put an iphone on there that they mysteriously can't remember the passcode to and if I find it I'm going to crack some skulls.

    I'm heartbroken over it. :(

    I am so sorry for your stinky day.. I hope you are able to recover it..

  4. Goodmorning everyone

    I'm so happy, I'm so happy :dance::dance::dance:

    AMQUEEN called me this morning and let me know that dhl's website says "ready for pickup" So I get excited, went to check mine, nothing :angry:

    So I called NVC and that's when I started dancing, the rep said "your visa was printed yesterday" So I infer that dhl just hasn't logged it into their system yet, let's see what happens later but thank God coz I was on the verge of losing it.

    Thanks vj family for keeping me sane :yes:

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! Looks like this will be a really good weekend for you! :yes:

  5. I would NEVER, EVER, discount ANYONE's personal experience in dealing with a SSA employee, but..

    Did you read my stuff, here, in this topic?

    I did... I was prepared to leave at the first sign of problems at the SS office when I went early in February. I even called ahead to "prescreen" the reps to make sure she knew what the heck she was talking about before I went to their offices.

    Now we only get "Contact Homeland Security they require some data" when we call back to SS.. Homeland security says we need to do an INFOPASS..

    What the hell could they friggin need?

  6. Great, can't they make anything simple. I'm sooo sorry to hear that you have to still face a struggle.

    One VJer told me 10 days was ok to apply, some even applied a day or two after POE, some said 14 days.. when I have it nailed down from USCIS Thursday I will let you know.. I guess I have had a rather easy process so far, so I'm not complaining (much :P ) I just hate to take vacation days when it can be avoided since I will need them later this year for the wedding ceremony in Italy.. I just hope I can help you guys avoid struggles after you have already been through so much.

  7. Social Security Pains.

    We applied for Antonio's SS card 10 days after his arrival, today we received a call from Social Security that we need to give Homeland Security some data before they can release a number. We have to do an INFOPASS to Charleston, SC.. about 2 hours away since the rep at Homeland Security couldn't help us on the phone...ERRRR!!

    I will let you know what they say, so you can avoid this royal pain in your near future.

  8. I'd look at the SS office kinda like a car salesman. If your applying between two weeks after arrival and two weeks before expiration know that you can get an SSN immediately. With that knowledge go into the office like your buying a car. If they won't give you one upfront don't let them do anything else. Get up, leave and find another office who understands the rules.

    I guess we should have waited a few days longer?? The woman that helped us at SS was knowledgable and helpful, she told us "no problem" we would receive it in about 4 weeks. I was surprised to receive the call today that Homeland Security needed something more.

  9. everybody has different requirements...

    Anyone ever had to go to an Infopass before getting an SSN? My fiance and I went to SS when he had been in the country 10 days. Today he received a call from SS that we needed to contact DHS and give some data before they could release a SS card. We called DHS, and the rep didn't ask our case number or Alien number she just told us that we had to do an INFOPASS appt to give Homeland security what they needed. ERRRR! My closest office is Charleston, SC a good 2 hour drive away, so I have to take a vacation day in order to do it.

    I even tried calling back to reach someone else that may give me better news, and I got the same exact rep!

  10. No but I can tell you from now that he won't be coming tomorrow. I had emailed the embassy and they called him and told him it's not printed yet and it might be next, who knows. I can't express how sad I am, I was really looking forward to having him here tomorrow :(:cry::cry2:

    Also, I called Delta and it wouldn't be a fee to change if he would travel by Sunday but that's of no benefit since dhl doesn't open on Saturdays :crying::crying::crying:

    I am sooo sorry. I wish there was something I could say, but it will be your LAST sad weekend.. I am sure he will be here early next week.

    I'm sorry (L)

  11. :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance: For 5 months of waiting and finally: APPROVED!!!

    :whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

    I have to come for visa on Monday or Tuesday, they will call me...and yes...all the time I was looking in the pink paper below my documents and when consul said to me: Welcome to the US and wish me all the best, I was astonished...couldn't believe that I am approved. :star:

    Thanks to ALL of you for your constant support...you know how hard was when we got RFE, but all of that is behind us. (F):luv:

    AWESOME!!! Congratulations!! :dance::dance::dance::dance:

  12. Actually... I woke up at 5:00am to get ready.. got Fuat out of bed at 6:30am... and by 7:45am we had eaten breakfast and were walkiıng to the consulate.
