  1. Hi everybody!!!

I was thinking about the name change after the marriage. I'm entering the states under a K-1 and i will get married very soon. I'm from Spain so I have two last names and the same two last names are the ones in my K-1 visa.

I will have to do the AOS after getting married. All my papers till now are in my current name so I'm wondering if a name change would be nothing but trouble with paperwork and even my Spanish passport and ID. So would be better don't change it and don't have the need to change the name in all papers, passport, ID's etc?

Please let me know your opinions and experiences.

    Thank you all in advance

    God bless!

  2. Hello everybody again!

First of all thank you for the people who has replied. After 4 hours of waitings on the phone and calls here and there a very kind woman from CBP gave me the phone number of the CBP supervisor from the first american airport I will be in. This man (very kind too) told me that I won't have any problem, I will just have to file this form called FinCen 105 at the POE and be accurate with the amount of money I'm carrying. He said that declare it is taxes free and no duty has to be paid. I asked him if I had to justify somehow where that money comes from and he said no. In addition, he told me that since I'm moving under a K1 is understandable that I move my stuff and need all my money too so isn't the same as if I'm visiting and carrying a big amount of money.

Just to let people know if someone find themselves in the same situation.

Thank you again and I just hope now I have an smooth trip.

    God bless :)

  3. Hello everybody!

I wasn't sure in what forum section this topic would fit. In this case the issue is regarding the entry to the USA in my case under a K1.

With my job savings and wedding gifts my family did to me I probably bring 30.000 usd or so cash with me. I will have a form declaring all that money from Spain. How do I have to declare it when I'm at the POE? I don't want to lose my money and I want to make sure what exactly i will have to do in order there's no problem. However, does the declaration of money have any cost?

Thank you in advance and God bless!

  4. Hello!

I know birth certificate will be needed for AOS and another process such as driver license or others.

I asked for an english birth certificate in the civil registry and they gave me a multilingual (they just issue an spanish birth certificate or multilingual) so if it's written 1 padre, 2 madre, etc below is a number code saying 1. father, fater, pare (in many languages). I guess it is valid right?

Then a page from the family book is attached with same information adding names of my grandparents etc but it is just in spanish. I guess it has to be translated...isn't it? Can a friend who's an english teacher (has a bachelors on that) translate it attaching her teacher number and declaring she is fluent in both languages and that is an accurate translation?

    Thank you in advance!!!

    God bless

  5. Wow Inky...yeah that's crazy...what i did to avoid having a company translating my highschool documents is make my highschool translate them and then they will send them to the college i intend to go.

Regarding college transcripts yeah...it has to be yes or yes through WES or similars and anyway, after paying mad money there's the possibility that WES doesn't give u the credentials.

Whatever...the life of the immigrant never was easy. Best luck to all of us! And lots of patience

  6. Hello everybody!!!

I have a question regarding study in the US... I will be moving under a K1 visa (to Dayton,Ohio) and to say dates, I will get married on november, apply for AOS on november too. The admission deadline of the university i would like to go is on march and the start of the semester on august.

The in-state tuition and the out-state tuition in this university are the same amount of money.

I thought that wasn't any problem in study while waiting for the GC...Is there a problem? Should I tell to immigration that i'm going to start college in case i haven't received yet the GC? Should i tell immigration that i applied for admission (once i do that)?

    Thank you in advance.

    God bless!

  7. So...can it actually be a problem or a delay for the AOS even if we send all the required forms and do the required calls? I'm reading some cases on the internet and for some of them moving even they sent forms etc was a big deal etc.

Another additional question and just wondering...If i start college and my GC has not been issued yet (I'm talking about 8.5 or 9 months after filling for AOS...would i have to report it somewhere or it isn't a problem at all?

    Thanks again

  8. Hello!!!

I guess a lot of people had this wonder or problem before.

I'm a K1 visa holder and I will be moving to USA. Me and my fiance will be living in his parents place for some months but we have plans to move within same state and not too far from his parents city.

My question is the following: when we start with the AOS we will be living at his parents but during the process of AOS we are planning to move. Thinking logical I guess that it should be reported (the change of address) but i don't know if it actually represents a huge problem for the AOS or could jeopardize it somehow... I mean his parents will be living in the same addy...isn't that a complete strangers are living there...

My fiance told me that he read somewhere that moving during the AOS is one of the big mistakes and after 2.5 years waiting for living together of course we want that everything goes smooth.

Please if someone knows bring some light to my wonder.

    Thank you in advance!!! :)

    God bless :) :) :)

  9. Hi everybody!!!

I just had my K1 visa issued and i will be moving to Dayton (Ohio) on October.

I have an european driver license from Spain and I would like to know how i have to do in order to drive ASAP in USA. (If i can use an international driver license, if i have to wait for the EAD or the greencard to get an Ohio's driver license, if i can register a car under my name and get insured,...)

I called the BMV but the girl on the phone knew less than me!!! grrrrrrrr

Thank you in advance!!! God bless

  10. I have my interview on wednesday. I have ready: emails, print screens of emails list, itineraries, passport stamps, boarding passes, engagement ring receipt (and of course i have the ring on my finger), pictures.

From that what can proof in a concrete manner the engagement? : ring and ring receipt, emails where the engagement is mentioned or the fiance(e) new status and pictures of the engagement day

But what they actually ask for is proof of ongoing relationship etc isn't that focused on see proofs of engagement even though is written.

Have good luck and best wishes!!!

  11. Hello everybody!!!

Looking up at instructions and forms...

DS-156 has an space where it's said that the beneficiary understood all questions in the form and all of them are true...then it's said signature and date

DS-157 doesn't even have a gap saying signature

DS-156K i understand reading the instructions that mustn't be signed.

The question is... the 3 forms shouldn't be signed? in case some of them have to be signed...which one?

    Thank you all!!!

    God bless

  12. Hi!,

I'm having my interview August 11th so i am the beneficiary. When i received the package 3 what i sent 2 weeks after was the check list (first page of the package saying to embassy you have all what they require and they can set your interview up and the I-230 (It is enclosed to the package 3)

Regarding the DS-160 I haven't heard about it so I'm going to present the DS-156 and DS-156K as it is requested in the instructions I received. That's simple just follow the instructions.

And about the language. It is said in the instructions sheet of paper that documents that aren't in the official language of the country or in english must be translated into english. If the country of your fiance(e) official language is spanish then documents can be presented either in spanish or english.

Hopefully i could help you somehow.

Take good care and good luck!

  13. Hi everybody! I'm currently organizing the papers for my interview.

I think i have everything. What's on instructions:

    -Police certificate

    -Birth certificate

    -DS-156 x2 & DS-157 x2 + DS-156K

    -2 Passport pictures

    -Valid passport

-Receipt visa fee payment 350 usd

-Affidavit of support from my fiance (I-134) + pay stubs, tax return, copy of savings account,...

-Proofs of relationship: passport stamps, itineraries, boarding passes, pictures, skype history, emails, engagement ring receipt

-Letter American embassy sent me setting up the interview and where it is said to bring the day of the interview

-Medical review (to do 2 days before the interview)

There's something else i need? My fiance sent me the I-129F petition packet he sent the first time (we did everything duplicate), the originals of the boarding passes and itineraries, NOA2 (a copy since we need the original for the AOS) do i have to bring with me something of this packet or is something wrong if i bring it just in case and then bring back with me what officers don't need?

Well, just trying to make sure i have everything with me since i'm traveling to go to the embassy.

Thank you in advance to all of you!!!

    God bless :)

  14. Yeah, we have the same boarding tix, stamps in passport and itineraries we sent and in addition my fiance's last visit boarding passes, stamps and itinerary. I guess i will do a selection of emails (a sample from each month) and then the skype call history plus i will do a print screen for them to see is from that software (email or skype) and i have a looot more than what i bring.

Thank you for your helpful answers.

    Best luck in everything!
