  1. Hawaii is a US state; your flight is a domestic one.

It's like you bought a ticket to Disneyland and now hat you are inside the park you are afraid that somebody is going to check your ticket every time you go on one of the rides.

    They won't.

Yeah, but I think they want to see an ID that matches the name on the reservations. That's my problem. But I have 2 solutions for it now. Either I get my ID card, or I just change my name on the reservations by calling the airline.

  2. We have the same situations, actually my husband booked me a ticket today gg to Las Vegas for my birthday on October. And then we realize that he booked my married name but I don't have my gc yet, only noa1. So what he did, he called the airlines and changed my name to my passport name. We don't want any problems at the airport so we just followed my passport name first, while my greencard still on process.

Oh, thank you very much! I will do that if I don't get my ID card until then. :luv:

  3. Hello dear VJ-ers!

I have a little situation here: I got married and I filed for AOS a week ago. I got the NOA texts and emails on the 11th of August, I'm still waiting on the hard copy in the mail. Now... our problem is: We booked our honeymoon to Hawaii starting on the 4th of September, but my husband put my new name(his name) on the reservations(flight, hotel). My passport doesn't match it(has my maiden name) and I don't have other IDs in my married name. Is it ok to bring my NOA hard copy and the marriage certificate?

I'm planning on going to DMV to get a state issued photo ID card and since we booked 3 weeks from now... it should give us plenty of time to do that. But what if we can't get an ID card(just supposing)... will I encounter problems at the airport?

Thank you so much in advance! Sorry if I explained myself poorly! (F)

  4. I got the txt msgs & emails yesterday, the 11th of August. I added my receipt #s this morning as they didn't work last night. I then checked my bank acc. and the 1,070 check has been cashed yesterday, 11th. It is obvious that I noticed immediately that some good money is missing. Ha! Then I saw the check. :(:):(:) Oh well :D

After adding the cases to my portfolio on my USCIS account, I noticed that my possible NOA date is the 9th of August(On August 9, we received and mailed you such and such). I'm waiting for the hard copy, but I'm pretty sure it will say the same thing. I'm beyoooond happy!

  5. I just waited for my GC so I could do both- change name and remove restrictions. I just got it in the mail today actually. I got lucky coz we moved last week and I did the usps mail forwarding and they forwarded my SSN! Woohoo

Is it possible to make the change online? I have the SSN card with my new name, but I want to remove the condition after getting the GC. So I was wondering if I can save a trip. :)

  6. I am getting ready to send off our AOS package, and I feel pretty good about having everything in order that I need to send (thanks to the awesome guides and posts I've found here!!! smile.gif)

I just have a couple of questions.... how are people attaching their passport type photos (all six of them) to their forms??? any thoughts on how to send the package UPS/FEDEX or just priority USPS mail??

    any advice would be appreciated!!

    Hey!

Chicago Lockbox got my package on the 8th of August. What I did was get 3 folders, one for each application. 2 passport photos for each. I typed my full name and A # lightly on the back of each and put them in a plastic zip-lock bag and attached it with the rest of the paperwork. I only used 1 small heavy clip for the I-485 package, one for EAD and one for AP. I wanted to be as close to their assembling guide as possible.

While it's not required, it's well appreciated that you follow their advice.

  7. Hello everyone, here i am starting with my questions :P

About the criminal record (i am the beneficary) for the interview, they say you need it from all the places you lived after you got 16 years. They mean in same country or? I lived in 2 towns so that means i have to get it from both places? I called the police and they said it is available 3 months, hope they know what they talking...

Ok, second question... if my fiance it is self employed we need the IRS and the bank thing (account, balance etc) right?

Well that is all for now but i will be back woth other questions for sure hehe. Thank you in advance for the answers and the infos. :help::luv:

If he's self employed, he probably knows about 1099 form for IRS and letter from his bank or simply bank statement. That's the one you need, as far as I know. But do a little more research and don't rely on this answer alone.

  8. It says 5 months, for all the service centers, and doesn't look like it is updated frequently. So, I'm not sure I can trust that information as all that reliable. But, if someone offered me the choice between being assured of 5 months, or take your chances, I'd definitely go for the 5 months.

If it hasn't been updated, it means it's still 5 months. So... if you reach 5 months(I hope you won't though), call USCIS and then contact your Congressman if nothing happens.

  9. :help: Hi Can some body advice me please?? im trying to fill up my forms for my AOS and im having dobuts on what to put in the blanks  of the I-485 form Part 1.. i llapreciate any help u can provide me thank you

    1 A#(if Any)

    2 Current USCIS Status

i came to the usa under K-1 visa already married

thankyou for any help you can provide

1.You can find your A number on your K-1 visa or on the NOA2 hard copy. It's a 9 digit number and it starts with A(per exapmle A 123-456-789).

    2. K-1 Visa or simply K-1. Whatever works for you.

Check you the example forms here on VJ, they've been a great help for me.

  10. When my fiance first sponsored me she had just finnished school and was unemployed, her dad co sponsored me as she had no income, she found a job quickly after we applied, for AOS do we still have to list her father or will putting just her job down be ok?

If she makes enough, I don't see why you would need to list her father again. Do a little research. Check Poverty Guidelines on USCIS website. It's called form I-864p. It will tell you what you need to know regarding I-864 financial support.

  11. Yup, that's what I've been doing too... the Kindle really helps me with being diligent about book reading. Plus, I've been house cleaning and tossing out most of the garbage related to the ex-wife, getting it ready so we're not living in a pig pen once she's here. :-)

So, is 5 months the magic amount of time before I should try to do something, not 6 months? I was wondering about that.

Just to be sure, check the processing times on USCIS. "My case status" also tells you about the normal timeframe.

  12. I assume this is normal to be at 4 months waiting; is there anything I should be "doing" now, other than sit tight and hope for the best? My fiancee's friend got NOA2 in 3 months (from CSC). We want to start making babies soon (literally) and she's not getting any younger so I don't really like waiting... the odds of success go down quickly as time progresses.

Mine took almost 6 months to be approved, so there's really nothing better to do other than wait for NOA2 patiently. You can start with a checklist of things for the interview. Maybe some of them require some time to be issued so it's better to read about it as much as possible. Other than that... after getting NOA2, it will be fast. I'm telling you. Don't listen to people telling you how much is it going to take. It depends on your own consulate and I've heard the one in Philippines is pretty fast. NVC could take up to a month, but a total time of 2 months between NOA2 and interview is a max.

P.S.: What I did to distract myself from the waiting was reading books and watching movies. A nice way to spend your free time. :)

  13. hi yall... about to send the I-129F packet. Every time I check and re check i think of new questions, i stress a little bit more.. so I just want to ask about the packet to those who know-

1- with the I-129F packet and sending the "evidence of having met/ relationship"- I have photocopies of some pictures of me and my fiance - some pictures of just us together (wearing different things, different locations.) I also have pictures of us with his family in Mexico.. (some pictures of us with sisters, nieces, dad.. etc). The question is *should the pictures be in color?? * and do i have to have a description of the photo??-where it was taken, year, who is in the photo??-

2- how necessary is extra evidence and such.. i have some emails from my fiance to my parents :) discussing our relationship etc.. also phone bills and records, and some letters that i have sent him and him to me..

Thanks so much all who read and help!!

The first step, which consists of sending the I-129F packet to USCIS, is all about primary evidence. You need evidence such as: boarding passes, passport stamps, itineraries, receipts from places you've been together(such as hotels). Use COPIES. Originals are required at the interview.

Include photos as secondary evidence and make sure to type date and location on the back of each one and maybe even name, if it isn't obvious. Something we did and worked for us was to stick 2 photos on a 8.5 x 11 sized paper(or A4 in Romania) or whatever works for you(we included around 20 photos, but we knew they were considered secondary evidence). That way I mentioned our names easily as well as dates and places and made it easier for them to attach the paperwork to their own folder using ACCO fasteners.

The pictures are secondary evidence like I said, which means they can also be printed on a grayscale.

  14. It took 8 days for NVC to receive our casr after NOA2. Really fast. Don't be jealous of me though...it took almost ten months to get NOA2. It is nice to finally see things moving..the universe is rewarding us for our patience.

Omg... I know you! You filed a month after me. I can't believe it took them so long to give you the approval. :| I guess having waited for 6 months means nothing compared to what you've been through. Glad it's over now!(F)

  15. Oh boy, so it might take a month until the NVC have my case too and enter it into the sistem, God... and i thought things will go faster now  Well at least now i have things to do so i hope time will go faster. Good luck you two and i hope you gonna hear from NVC this week

Nah, not necessarily. It takes up to 7-8 days usually. But it can take more, that's also true. Mine took a week and a half as far as I remember.

There's another thing that seems to be happening: if the case got to them recently, they won't have it in their system. That doesn't mean USCIS hasn't forwarded the petition. It's waiting to be logged in.

  16. I sent our packet to the Texas lockbox from St. Lucia on 7/28/11 and it was signed for on 7/30/11. It is now 8/9/11 and I still have not received an email notification from them.... This seems like it is longer than normal.... any thoughts?

Sometimes it takes more than usual. If nothing happens after 30 days, think of calling. Otherwise it's ok, you're still well within a normal timeframe.

  17. Hi Ella & Octav!

Yes, I used USPS for sending my AOS application. I just got an email and text notification for NOA lastnight? Did you filed your application this month too?

Yes, I got the details on my signature so I thought I could join this thread. :) I sent it on Saturday, the 6th of August and they got it yesterday, the 8th of August. I'm waiting impatiently for the txt message and email.

  18. Oh yeah, I meant NOA 1 lol. Wow, I can't believe I typed AOS all the way through without realizing it.

And are you sure the United States Postal Service registers all the names to an address? I thought it didn't matter according to some friends who told me.

And I can write a letter to them saying that she didn't have to fill out the tax return just bc she was a full time student? Will that be sufficient?

Along with some proof from her new job, like I said. That should do it... I really have no idea how to help more. Under which category have you filed for AOS?

  20. I'm so sorry to hear about this situation. I'm sure there must be something somewhere which caught their attention. I found out today(maybe other VJ-ers already know this) that USCIS can access social networks like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace etc. to help determine if a relationship is bonafide or a fake one. They also look for illegal stuff like, per example, status updates such as "I managed to steal a car" or "I got a job"(when you're obviously not allowed to work or something similar). It just blows your mind what they're able to do nowadays. They tend to investigate those who accept hundreds and hundreds of friends without even knowing them. One way or another, an Immigration Officer gets into someone's list of friends and gets the information right from the source. I wouldn't swear it's true, but it's at least something to think about. Maybe something like that could have happened? :|

  21. Speaking of those crude questions, would it count against someone if they never... :innocent: with each other? Like if they never at all with anyone for religious reasons, that wouldn't be a red flag would it? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I tend to worry too much about things that could go wrong

Oh, don't worry! That won't be a problem at all! It's a plus sometimes, depending on the consulate. Though coming from Australia, I'm sure you won't get to deal with secondary inspection kind of questions. :) Hihi, good luck!
