  1. Hi All,

This post is very helpful as I am having the same issue, whether it`s smarter to buy a one way or a round trip ticket.

1). One way or round trip?

My husband`s parents are flying in from Belgrade --> Frankfurt --> Chicago on a round trip flight, but we will cancel as soon as they arrive.

One way ticket was $1500 per person & the round trip was a LOT cheaper, $650 per person. We bought the round trip flight to save us some money. We are also a bit afraid because they are MOVING to U.S (IR-5 visa) and when they arrive to Chicago, the customs officer may question them why they bought a two way ticket when they are moving to US and coming in on a immigrant visa. I would love to get some thoughts from you guys!

    2. Wheelchairs - good or bad idea due to Medical Exam at the time of interview???

HIs parents also do not speak any English, so we thought it would be a good idea to get the wheelchairs for them so that somebody can assist them getting to and from gates as this is their first time flying and it can be very difficult for somebody that has never flown before. They had their medical exam during the interview and both were super healthy. My husband is a bit worried if the wheelchairs will give them issues at the POE. If you guys think this is not a good idea to have wheelchairs, those are easy to cancel. I was wondering if any of you were in a similar situation and could help .

I would appreciate all the help!!!!!!!!! Sorry for such a long post.

  2. Hi All,

I`ve tried researching about my issue throughout here and still can not seem to find the resolution as to what happened.

My parent in laws had their interview yesterday in Bosnia and Herzegovina and they were approved and were told they can pick up their visa in a city nearby in about 3 days.

After the interview, They were given a small basic letter instructing them to go to the following website to register: ais.usvisa-info.com << and to register and follow the steps. One of the steps was to select"
From the National Center for visas (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) or consular department informed / I on the date of the interview in the consular department and got / I have instructions to schedule the date of the conversation on this website.

Based on my research, isn't this supposed to be done prior to interview? We were never instructed to do so. Now when I register them, it shows a past date?

I think i am just confused to the purpose of this step? Maybe because it was supposed to be done before the interview that`s why its a bit confusing.

I hope someone can help me clarify the purpose of this website?

  3. Hi All,

My husband`s parents just went for their interview and visa has been approved! :) So exciteeed.

Quick question for all of those that had experience with this -

We are looking at flights for them and it seems like one way tickets are super expensive compared to round trip flights. Did any of you purchase a round trip for a IR-5 visa or do you know anybody that did that to avoid high prices?

I am just afraid if they start questioning them at the airport as to why they bough a round trip ticket when it is a immigrant visa, moving to US and not going back.

  4. Hi All,

Just wanted to give you an update for all of those that are waiting for an interview. Case complete on October 5th.. october 13th we got an email from NVC that the interview was scheduled on Nov 21st!! ? We are now preparing for the interview and if someone could help me below if i am missing anything

    - my mother in law will call to schedule the medical exam and will bring all vaccination records and interview letter to the exam..Am i msising something?

    - do we need to pay any other fees except medical exam. Its a IR-5 visa, and we paid all fees to NVC.

    - here are all the docs they will bring to the interview and i hope we did not missing anything :(

    - originally signed affidavit of support and financial evidence

    - original civil docs ( marriage police birth cerificates all those good things that were submitted to nvc)

    - 2x2 passport photos

    - Interview letter

    - family photos

    - passports

    - ds-260 confirmation page

    - medical exam (if given to them)

I hope i am not missing anything. The main one i am concerned about if we need to pay any additional fees to the embassy except the medical exam costs. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

  5. Hi everybody,

We just received an email from NVC stating the following:

Subject: ****NVC Notice of Missing Item: Please submit Form DS-260 ****

The National Visa Center (NVC) received the documents you submitted in support of XXXXX immigrant visa petition. This petition's NVC case number is XXXXXX. However, NVC will not review these documents until we receive an Immigrant Visa Application (Form DS-260) for each intending immigrant. Form DS-260 must be completed and submitted to NVC online at ceac.state.gov.

We already submitted this form for both of his parents on July 23rd..sent all financial and civil docs on July 23rd as well. NVC received all docs couple of days later. It even shows online that we submitted DS 260 for both of his parents..... not sure what to do now because on the bottom of that email its telling me that they will take additional 6 weeks to review. It`s been 2 months since we submitted all the docs to them.

    Has anybody experienced this????

  6. I heard for one of the vaccines that females are supposed to receive. I forgot the name :(

Same case no vaccination records :(... it was either in Bosnia or Serbia one of those and the person had to pay 1800 for one vaccine and I actually found it on VJ here.

I dont want my parents in law to wait until their medical and end up having to pay those high costs. I rather have them visit their primary doc and have them done.

But at the end of the day i am not even suprised that it costs a lot :/ many of us from US are used to these high medical costs lol if u dnt have insurance.

Do any of you know where i can find what vacccines are required???

  7. Hi everybody,

We are currently filling out the DS-260 for my parents in law.

One of the questions on there asks if they have their vaccination records. They have gone all the way back to their birth cities ..dif doctors.. Literally everywhere and nobody can provide them with their vaccination records because its been sooo long since they've done it. Both of my husbands parents are in their 50s.

What can we do about this? Has anybody exeriences this before? What should we do? Can they get denied if i answer no? I am not sure what to do :(

  8. Hi all,

I need some help with the I-864 form, I may be over analyzing this, but i rather get some opinion as to how to fill it out.

    - My husband is bringing his parents to the United States (IR-5 visa)

We are currently in the process of filling out the I-864 form. I am confused whether my husband is considered self-employed or employed by a "company". He is currently working for my brother, who is a licensed electrician.

My brother provides him with the 1099- form at the end of the tax year and does not take out any taxes/deductions whatsoever. Does this make my husband self-employed or should i put down employed as an Electrician at AMD Electric Inc.

In addition, what should we use for my husband`s income, which line from 1040? We file taxes jointly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  9. Cao svima,

Hvala unapred!!!

  10. I have 2 questions regarding country of origin/nationality for you guys. I hope somebody can help me answer this question on the DS-260 application for immigration for my husband`s parents. It may sound such a dumb question, but i do not want any confusion.

I am currently in the process of filling the form out for my mother in law. She currently holds dual citizenships. One is from Bosnia where she currently lives, she moved to Bosnia in 1981.. and one from Croatia where she was originally born and raised. However, she does not have a valid passport from Croatia anymore.

On the form DS 260, it asks couple of questions.

Country of origin/nationality? Would this be Croatia? or Bosnia? Origin to me means where she was born?

and then towards the bottom of the form online, it asks do you or have you held any other nationality other than the one you have indicated above.. and do you have a valid passport.. Should i list Bosnia there, and list the passport number that it asks for,

I hope somebody can help me clarify this. I would really appreciate all help!!!!!!!

  11. Cao svima,

Part 2 od forme I-864 pita country of citizenship or nationality, to bi bill Bosnia and Herzegovina...????

    Hvala unapred!

  14. Cao,

    Hvala unaprijed!

  15. Team,

I am currently filling out the DS-260 for both of my parents, and need help answering some of the questions.

    - The form is asking for previous addresses where they lived since the age of 16. My parents moved a lot in their life, but they never left the country, they only lived in 3 different cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina...

    - They can not remember the exact address, and exact dates where they lived because its been so long ago. Is this okay if its not 100% accurate? They can not recall all of the dates and street numbers.

    - If they only moved from city to city in Bosnia, will they need police and court certificates from each city???? Right now when i look at their police certificates and court records, its valid for the entire Bosnia.

Can somebody please help me with the above questions, I would really appreciate it. Thx!

  16. Hi,

I was just talking to my immigration consultant from WI. My husbands parents sent us all certified copies of their civil documents (birth certificate, marriage, police records, court records etc).

The immigration consultant told me that I would need to submit originals to NVC. Their website clearly states they need copies. We are sending them copies, and they look like copies as well, but they have a stamp on the back that says it has been certified. Did any of you have these issues, where NVC sent you a checklist because something was not original? I am so confused, or are these immigration consultants overreacting? I hope my mother in law will not have to send us all originals again :( I would like to confirm if any of you have sent copies and did not receive checklist that something was wrong.

    • You must send photocopies of all required civil documents to the NVC.
    • You must submit the originals (or certified copies) and a photocopy of each of your required civil documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at the time of your interview.
  17. Hello,

My husband filed for his parents to come to US (mother and father) back in June. Both cases were approved, and sent to NVC end of December 2015. We received an invoice and welcome packet from NVC 2 weeks ago. First we received his dads, the following week we received his moms packet last week.

    1. - The initial welcome letter from NVC cotains a checklist that has steps 1 2 3 etc, invoice number and all that. From my understanding, you first have to complete step 1 before you move on to the next step, until you reach to step 6, where you have to send financial and supporting (civil) documentation. Can you send those together?
    2. Do we have to translate the civil docs before we send them to NVC? Online it says "All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations. " The visa will be issued in Bosnia, and that is where his parents are currently living.
    3. - Before his parents start collecting "supporting (civil) documents" step 5, how do i know which supporting (civil) documents apply to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Where can i find it?
    4. The checklist that arrived with the welcome packet states that they must submit "military records", is that even necessary for his mother?
    5. Police records, how many years back? His mother was born and raised in Croatia and lived there until the age of 30, but moved to Bosnia and lived there her whole life. Does she have to submit one from Croatia? His dad lived in Bosnia his whole life.
    6. Court and prison records, neither one of them was ever convicted of a crime, is it necessary to submit if they were never convicted?
    7. - In step 3, submit a visa application. Who submits that? My husband or his parents? His parents don`t speak English, how will they know how to fill it out? Please advise.
    8. - Is there a deadline to submit any of these steps? The welcome letter does not have any DUE dates on there.

I hope somebody can help and answer my questions above! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
