At this point I really dont know what to do next but will call NVC, just got our letter of approval yesterday in the mail. We listed Abuja as the local consulate because my fiance is in Kaduna. Any ideas on what to do at this point..... HELP please.
-
There seems to be a lot of recent approvals. Lets hope that means things are going to start moving through Lagos. I hope everyone gets a quick date.
Gees, you just said Abuja doesnt process K1s, I indicated in my form that the local consulate is Abuja and they said they are sending it there.... what do I do now
-
Abuja doesn't do K1 visas
Gees, I read the guide but it does not specify that Abuja does do K1 Visas, OMG what do I do now because I listed Abuja has the embassy in Nigeria and they said they are sending it there. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
We were approved 9/8/09 and we want to start gathering our package and wanted to find out if he needs any personal documents he needs to take to the embassy? I have read the guidelines and was wondering if anyone was required to bring other documents like Birth Certification etc.
Congratulations
Your questions clarly and plainly indicate you have NOT read the guidelines. Even a brief review of the guides indicates YES you will need some personal documents at the interview, and that you will have no dealing with NVC for a K-1 visa other than a notification they have forwarded your case to the consulate. You are dealing with perhaps the MOST difficult consulate in the world. If this visa is important to you and you wish to be successful in your journey, I strongly urge you to REALLY read and study the guides, regional forums, consulate reviews and anything else you can possible learn about the process.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, especially with Lagos. You will not get this visa "by guess and by golly" at THAT consulate.
Thank you so much but I am not filing through Lagos but Abuja
If it is Nigeria, it is Lagos. One more reason to read the guides. Please.

Thank you that's a relief but another question, I am nervous... I have read the guidelines and just want to be super sure of what I need to include in the package.
Do I need to hear fron NVC that out package has been received before I send the package to my fiance? or to do it ASAP?
-
Even though my fiance is in Nigeria, I will see his mom in Holland next week and I want to know if it's possible to give the documents to his mom than mailing it to him? Or does it have to be mailed?

I know once I receive the NOA2 in the mail I include it with the package (original I-129K form and G325 forms)I'm sending to him, is NVC sending anything else to me?
Just a letter with the Consulate case file #
Thank you

This is really weird, there is no similar situation or case process, it's just different for everyone... We'll continue to pray and hope for the very best.

If he has internet he can download the forms there. <a href="http://"http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html"" target="_blank">Lagos visa forms</a> I am expecting it will be Jan or so before most of us have interviews. I started a Nigeria thread looking for data from people but June approvals aren't getting dates , so I would plan on Jan or Feb
I apologize if I'm acting like a novice, please do I receive anything from NVC to send to him or they receive it at the Nigerian embassy?
I see there are several packages which one comes to me and which one does he receive, I just want to be prepared
We just got approved 9/8/09 so do I contact the NVC in 2 weeks if they have received my package or contact Nigeria?

The embassy should send him a package with the required docs he need to bring or send to them and will ask for BC, police records, medical etc.
Thank you this helps a great deal

Hello! I have a few questions. Please answer them if you have any information.
1. Does anyone have an immigration attorney? Is it helpful?
2. Is it important to visit my fiance AFTER i send in the I-129??? I am a teacher and so I spent the summer with him, but now I don't have any breaks long enough until next summer.
3. How do you prove the phone records are between you and your fiance since they don't have your name and his name on them?
4. SHould I get letters to put in his 'proof of relationship' stuff from family members?
5. We are so worried. I am 25 and he is 31, both neither been married. I went to Nigeria on a mission trip in 2008 and we fell in love...we are just two normal people with nothing to hide...What can we do to make this a success?
6. What is a normal timeline? I want to get my dress and book a reception place!?! Is it crazy to try to guess a month?
7. He was denied a student visa twice in June of this year. Will that affect anything? Will it delay his visa time for his appointment?
8. Are the appointments only in Lagos or Abuja as well?
9. What can I be doing NOW to get ready for the next step?
10. What is the police report? Where can he get that and can he get that now?
11. What doctors stuff does he need? Does he need immunizations? Can he get them now?
12. I am a teacher and make a modest salary. How much money should I have in my account in order for my affadavit to be ok?
13. Are you supposed to have other affadavits??
Thanks so much for your help! Please e-mail me at thatsmyemmy@yahoo.com
Emily
It will be better to visit after you file I-129 then if you can't, it's shouldn't hurt as long as your pictures (the one you send with the original package) is legit
What we did was phone cards so save your phone cards and even if you can get you phone bills that's if you use your phone directly, at least that shows you've been calling Nigeria
Proof of relationship example is under the K1-VISA guideline/timeline flow chart. You just have to put something in writing of how you met and probably your engagement.
If you've got nothing to hide then just follow the instruction on this website, they have been of great help to us
My personal experience is not advisable to book a hall or fix a date without approval or even VISA in hand. We where supposed to get married in the next 2 week Sept 26, 2009 and filed Feb 26, 2009 but did not get approval till Sept 8th. We have to cancel all our reservations so please don't waste your money.
With timeline is varies, it just depends on your processing center, ours was 6.5 months
Please tell him and I beg you to disclose that you have applied for a student visa before and was denied, if you lie they have everything in their records. That should not affect him unless you have anything to hide with that.
Appts are in both Abuja and Lagos... I have learned over the years that Abuja is the best place because they are not a lot of people and it's quicker
Just provide all accounts records whether you need them or not
These are all I know pertaining to your question. I am not sure people will email directly so check back for responses. Keep praying God never fails.

Lets hope you go through the NVC quickly and not go through additional processing for a very long time....thats the 2nd hardest thing to wait for!
Good luck to you!
Hopefully the NVC will not take too long by God's grace since we had a longer wait for the NOA1
Received NOA1: 02/26/2009
Approval Sent : 09/08/2009

Yesterday day I was so upset and decided to contact the senator this morning but I got to work now and opened my email and we are approved. I am so excited and I dont know where to start gathering stuff. Thank you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but what's next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, it's been 6 months and 2 weeks and still havent heard anything, case still pending.... I dont want to contact the congressman or the senator yet as I've been advised because i feel the calls i have placed several times to VSC is the issue. Is there anyone out there in the same situation. I see some are approved within few months, why do some people have to wait longer than expected.
-
I had called these people 2 weeks ago and they said they would create a ticket, I really dont know what to think anymore because we are over the 6 months processing time which it was before but as of June 2009 according to their website K1 processing time is 5 month, what is going on, does anyone share in this too. Oh and it's VSC. Gees!
Call your congressman and senators!! They have a liasion there at the USCIS, and in your case will absolutely help!! Call them and do not let up till youve got it!!
Scott<><
Thank you all

So I just called these people again and they said they cant create another Service Request since they created one for us a week ago... She said we just need to wait another 30 days and if we dont hear from them to keep calling. She said I can schedule an appt online to speak to someone at VSC to see if anything could be done. I really told her my mind that people's life are dependent on this and it doesnt make sense to be waiting for months after it's past the processing date... of course that didnt help anything

Thank you all, I will let you know the outcome, I think I just need to be persistent.

You can avoid these kinds of scheduling conflicts by not planning a wedding without knowing when (or if) you'll get the visa. Even USCIS tells you not to make plans like this.
My advice would be to allow for PLENTY (I mean PLENTY) of time if you're going to insist on planning a wedding. What was your estimated wedding date?
We were in the same situation too, we had our wedding seheduled for September ,we filed for K-1 in Feb but still havent heard anything from them.... My advise as we have done was to just move it to next year and buy yourself some time. Good Luck

Here on V J there has been only one person that I have seen that got any usable assistance from a politician.
Hmm...
Contacting your congressman/senator has helped a lot of people here on VJ, however since you already have a service request I'd save the congressman card for if you don't hear back in the next 30 days.
Good luck!
If you believe a politician will help dont wait another minute. Waitng is what caused you to post on V J.
They all have a staff member employed to placate people that ask for help. That staff member calls UCIS or NVC & speaks to a staff member employed to speak to the other staff member.
Do it now. Why wait 30 days? There is no such thing as a card to play. These politicians work for you full time. When you call demand to speak to an elected politician. That wont happen.
Please take the time to let us know the outcome. No one wants you to succeed more than I do when it comes to using these politicians.
Every V J member that has posted has indicated the politician had no impact on the outcome of the case other than one from Hawaii. The info they got was exactly what they already had or could have gotten themselves.
Thank you!
