  1. Update the journey ended for My in-laws became Citizens last week in Fairfax Office, it was a very brief ceremony of 30 people wearing masks. Please update.

They where told they are doing 13 ceremonies a day at that office to clear the backlog it was about 15 minutes in total.

Nobody allowed in except those becoming Citizens, so things are moving.
The other thing that was mentioned is that USCIS only have funding until August to process after that the officers may have to look for other jobs? I assume the government will fund after August & that this is correct?

Thank you to everyone on VJ for all the support for our family journey started 11years ago!

My husband’s naturalization interview was yesterday at the Washington Field office. I went along with him for moral support, The appointment time was at 8:20am but my husband got called in a bit earlier, He passed his civics, reading and writting tests. The IO was very polite and friendly and went through the application. My husband had to correct a few things and the IO happily made the changes. At the end, the officer stated she was a new employee and was unable to make a decision, she had to submit it to

her supervisor for final review. All they requested was our bank statements, we took a few other documents to show we are in a bonafide relationship but they did not need it.

At the end she handed a paper checking off the box for passed civics test and also the decision cannot be made box.

Over all it was a positive yet nerve wrecking experience. When we came home, I checked the status and it had said “you attended your interview. Please wait while we continue to review your application”. We applied based on the 3 year rule. No long trips outside the US , no issues with the the law. Should there be a concern at this time? All the IO states was that she was new and she had to get final review from her supervisor.

    Any comments? Thoughts?

You aren't the first to have an interview with the new employee that is unable to make a decision.  My husband had his interview over 2 months ago and was told the exact same thing.  His I-751 is still pending and his N-400 is seemingly approved.

I expect this to drag on for many months to come...

Online status hasn't changed since his interview.  And for whatever reason, we can't get any online status of his I-751.  When we put the case number in is says there is no information available.

My husband made an appointment and got the I-551 stamp in his passport since we need to travel out of the country and it is now past his 18 month GC extension.

    The fun never ends!

Exactly the same in November Father In Law was told he had passed but his had to be checked by a supervisor absolutely no progress as we approach 2 months since the interview, we even asked when my Mother-In-Law oath ceremony was cancelled in December still no news. I will update as soon as anything changes.

  3. UPDATE

Mother-in-law arrived for her Oath Ceremony yesterday in Fairfax when she went to hand in her Green Card they informed her that her ceremony had been desheduled?
After traveling 2 hours herself & family flying in to attend they gave her back her green card.

They gave her a copy of the de scheduling letter sent on 16th?

Informed her that she had to have her Oath Ceremony at a different location in February & that someone should have called her??
When she got home the letter was in the mailbox just delivered. No email or phone call notification?
While waiting they enquirered what is happening about Father-in-Laws as he interviewed the same day but by a trainee, the short answer was nothing it is in a pile awaiting checking!

I went about it through the Washington DC passport agency. Here's a list of all the passport agencies throughout the country :

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast/passport-agencies.html

I made an appointment online. You can only do this if your travel date is within 14 days and can show proof of travel (I printed out my Delta itinerary).

Once I booked my appointment I received an email from DOS with a confirmation number that you will need to present at the passport agency. I also had two passport sized photos, a filled out DS 11 form, and my newly issued certificate of naturalization.

I showed up at 1130am, presented my documents at check in, went through security and was immediately seen. The person behind the counter made copies of all my documents then gave me a number and told me to have a seat. No more than 10 minutes later my number was called, I turned in all my documents and the person at the counter asked me confirm that all information was correct to the fullest extent of my knowledge. Once I did I paid via CC (it came out to 235: 140 for passport book and card, 60 for expedited fee, and a 35 execution fee). By this time it was noon and I was then given a receipt and told to come back from 2-3 to pick up my passport (the card would be mailed out).

I went to run some errands and came back at 230 and had my passport in hand by 245. Surprisingly, it was a very pleasant experience (I was expecting a DMV type of experience). It seems they allow walk-ins but I did not want to risk it, so I HIGHLY recommend making an appointment which is not difficult at all.

    Hope this helps!

Did you have to get a copy of your naturalization certificate before going to passport office?

My husband had his interview today. Although he passed the naturalization test (and the 40 minute interview went seemingly well) he was told they couldn’t make a decision at this time.

The officer told my husband that she was new and still in training. She said because his ROC was not yet adjudicated she couldn’t make a decision.  She pointed at the I-751 packet sitting on the desk and said she didn’t have time to look at it and was going to turn it over to her supervisor.

I went to the field office with him but they said they didn’t need to speak with me.

She said we should hopefully hear something by January.

Needless to say, I’m not happy 😡

Any updates or changes? My Father-In-Law just had exactly the same happen today was told he passed the test & looked perfect for approval but as she was in training she had to defer it & it would be 2-3 months before he heard anything.

My Mother-In-Law had interview with another officer who was obviously not in training as he approved her & said oath ceremony should be in about a month.
