  1. Has it ever been an issue when K-1ers simply plan a civil wedding? In lieu of the economy and because we're somewhat not the drink all you can partying kind, my fiance and I wanted to have an intimate and quick ceremony, no church and no big reception, dance the night away type of thingie. That's the reason I'm kicking back and relaxing and not worrying about any wedding details. I mean how much can you really plan within 90 days? Now out of paranoia, I wonder if COs will find that questionable or what. Has anyone been questioned for this?

  2. The beneficiary (Guy from N.Ireland) does not need a job.

The petitioner (girl from Indiana) will need a job with sufficient income, or assets, or a cosponsor. That comes later, but is good to know about/plan for.

I believe that the sponsor has to be a US citizen/LPR, so don't think his mother sponsoring him will work out, unless she gives him the assets in his name to self sponsor. (London has let others do this - assets only)

Yea but I'm just worried will they wonder why I haven't had a job since I left school...

Can my fiancee's mum not sponsor me? My fiancee is a student and this is the only option we have...

Ahh you're young. They will forgive you for your lack of workforce experience. Your USC lady love should prepare more to prove that she can support you when you live here. I hope she has enough to prove that she's able citizen..if not her parents can definitely co-sponsor. My fiance hasn't had a steady job in years (geez I should freak out too for him) but someone has to show the dough and it ain't gonna be the beneficiaries. No worries mate.

If you're truly worried they might ask you why you have been out of work since you left school, tell them the truth but with an honest intention that you are planning to be employed by any means. The job market in Northern Ireland hasn't been quite promising for the last few years, am I wrong? But who am I kidding? The job market hasn't been well everywhere.

    Good luck mate.

  3. HI guys, how's everyone doing. I just wanna ask some opinions from you. Me and my American citizen wife were introduced by my Aunt, they are working together in the same Hospital for a long time, is it ok to tell the consul that we were introduced by my relative when they ask "How did we meet?" or "How did we know each other?"

It is what it is. It happens all the time K-1 or not.

  4. oh and I tip around 20% (tax is 9% so I just double it and add a little more)

You are more generous than I am. Tipping in the US has gotten out of hand. I forgot how much so until I returned to the US last year.

But service here is like no other. A smile goes a long way; even small talks. They count on your tip and it matters a lot because generally people are pleasant. I've traveled all over the place and notably it's a challenge to get a decent smile from a sales lady or a waitress and when I do get it, I tip really well and it generally surprises them. I was in France once and gave a waitress 10 euro and she looked at me as if I got 2 heads. I don't think it's outrageous to tip in the U.S. The culture is very much service oriented and there is a price tag for that. :-)

  5. For those of you who have been waiting for over 6 months... warning don't bash me.

I'll be entering my 5th month and no word or letter yet. I started the "call-you-senator" process recently only to be informed of what USCIS voice response system would have told me. The only tinge of hope is when supposedly they said "she should hear from us soon". I guess some state delegates are better than the other. I'm losing my mind!

  6. thats it. look like the end. after 3 years of marrige.

he hurt me like no other man before. cheated and also try to apply for credit cards in my name.

cant take it no more! but its still feel sad.

i wanted to ask you people what happen if i file for divorce right now. i just got my 10 year GC two weeks ago.

if i file for divorce right now it can affect my status? can they take my GC?

    thanks for your help.

No effect in your status. In a few years you can apply for US Citizenship and you're all set. Leave that turbulent life behind you and start anew. Good luck.

  7. I am dissapointed in the way most people here are thinking. I see that the ones that had the shortest wait times desire the longest wait for others, which is kinda sad. Also I want to think of other people that will come after me. I would hate for them to go through even harder times and be separated from their loved ones even longer because I had the chance to draw some attention to this and I did nothing. I am at 3 months now and it looks like my NOA2 will be at least 6 months while a couple of years back it got done in under a month in most cases. I can't believe that we can't get it back to the way it was there, but if we just sit idle nothing will ever happen.

I worte to all the major tv networrks, and wrote letters to everyone I could. I am hoping maybe somewhere, someone will take the time to speak out. This is one of the reasons that government is taking control in this country instead of the power remaining with the people. It is because we decide to just sit back and do nothing. That is why we have representatives and not a communist system. If we continue to sit idle we will become one.

I want to thank those few that supported me and I wish there will be more that would contact everyone they know and maybe there is a small chance somewhere that we can make a change.

"At best only 50% of the people involved in this process can even vote, so there is no incentive for lawmakers to do anything."

Everyone that applies for a K-1, K-3 must be a citizen.

"I have read the ombudsman office report on the USCIS, They know about all the problems so write more letters to them will not fix it. I see they are working on new Immigration laws, but non are direct at US citizens, just green card holder that must way 8 to 10 years not 8 to 10 months to bring there family.

Even if congress make change that we all want, It still will take a year to become law."

This is not what I am talking about. Green card holders have no rights yet. They are not citizens of this country, they just got the priviledge to work here and stay here and later maybe become citizens. I am talking about us as citizens, we have the right for the government to work for us not us for the goverment. Remember: "We the people..."

I'm with you on this. Even though we are dealing with the "government's process", we USCs are paying for service. You don't jack up fees only for the service to be slower and inconsistent. People don't realize this is life altering. It crossed my mind to write a letter to the President just simply to challenge his immigration platform. One of which I read upgrading the technology. That doesn't mean anything to me nor answer questions about their service improvement. I'm sure some of us here never anticipated to fall in love with someone from afar but since it hit us anyway, we have the right to pursue this without major hurdles. It's not easy to dish out $455 here, $1000 there, $350 here, $175 there ya know, not in this economy. I have started reaching out to my congressional delegates here by faxing them a paperwork (something like privacy notice as per their requirement). Funny thing is I have not heard from them either so now I wonder if I have to contact another agency to complain about not hearing from my delegates. good lord....

  8. Just wondering, is there any lobbyist (or whatever you wanna call it) fighting for a reform? The math here doesn't obviously add up, we're paying tons of money to wait and to get a run around. They are obviously putting a lot of dough on a service so useless instead of getting more people to adjudicate and make the processing faster. Six months (or more) of waiting time could be spent in something more meaningful like making babies with our fiance or something.

  9. I'll never forget the day I got my NOA2, I was leaving the house to buy some fans because it was sweltering (hot) aye, it gets hot in Scotland..sometimes haha.

I (we) were so excited about the NOA2 (after 6.5 months waiting) that I spaced out in giddiness all day. I wrecked my car driving home from work, while my mind was elsewhere. We didn't even care about the car accident...

LOL..Oh god..the answers here keep getting better and better!

  10. Everyone seems to understand OP's life story from start to finish. I don't get it at all. Either way this is her side of the story and it makes me wonder why it all got sooo Jerry Springerish. I am also not sold to the allegations that he's doing it only for the visa. I think this is a classic case of online-dating-mismatch-gone-too-far. I hope you both sort this out and leave each other alone for good. Perhaps take all the he said-she said stuff out of this forum since you and Mr. Aussie are the only ones who know the real issue. We can't do much here and frankly, I hate oscar endings. You both worked and persevered to be together finally and to end the story like this and not being able to part amicably is just too sad.

I wish you a peace of mind.

  11. This is one heck of a thread that cracks me up so much. Thanks for all the good laugh. I thought I was going insane jumping between USCIS website and Igor's List here which by the way backed up a lil bit...the other day it was at March 2 and as of tonight my friends, it's Feb 27. Maybe if I stare at that chart long enough, the dates will move up. It is insane! Time for my coo-coo pill!

  12. Is anyone having problems with their I864 form? The NVC keeps sending us checklist saying we have information missing or incomplete . Number 25 thats what they are having the problem with. I thought i would be gearing up for my interview or something but instead we have the same checklist to correct again

What exactly did you submit for #25?

  13. Hi Aloha,

I don't quite get your question around translation. I need info since my French fiance's will get to this NO2 phase at some point. Were you saying that the Consulate accepts any documents written in French or English? Does that mean he does not need to hire a translator to translate his birth certificate or police certificate or anything that's written in French? Please confirm. I have briefed him to start looking for a translator but if the embassy in Paris accepts French documents, then I guess that's one less thing to worry about.

    Merci bcp.

    Lara

  14. I think I can see both sides here. There are way too much fuss coming to America. This is whether you're from an equally rich country or not. It's too much...paperwork to fill out (do you have any swiss cow in your luggage?, are you hiding lilac seeds in your pocket?), endless questioning, blah-de-bee-blah. It puts our country in everyone's ###### list. I've visited other countries around the world and never was I treated or questioned like a criminal. Needless to say there is a reason for having this type of system here but for the most part, they should also regulate this with common sense.

  15. It is important to report both marriages and attempt to get a copy of his 2nd divorce decree. Try contacting anyone here from Korea and see if they can help. Maybe there is a way to order a copy online... gosh you can pretty much obtain or order anything online. Worth looking into.

Better be safe now than get RFE'd/AP or what not.

  16. The whole "unwritten" rule around VWP screwed us up big time. My fiance stayed with me in the US for close to 90 days then he went back to France. About 6 weeks later, he came back to the US only to be sent back. CBP talked down to him, accusing him of milking me and possibly will milk the US system too (ok let's revisit that... France social system is far more generous than what we get around here). Anyway I don't blame CBP if they are merely doing their job but they truly need to scrutinize people better (if not knowledgeably) before throwing accusations. He never in his wildest dreams anticipated to migrate to America. But he wants to because of me.

Anyway folks - be aware of that. No clear rules around this...it's all based on CBP discretion. I wish though they come up with a clear guidelines..after all plane tickets are not cheap!
