  1. hi

do i need to apply for a SSN to get a job or it is not necessary?

and what are the advantage to have one?

    thank you for your help

About 3-4 weeks after your arrival here in the US, go to your local Social Security Office to apply for that. You can check that thru this site: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/

Bring your passport -- this would have had your VISA stamp, I-94 card, etc.

SSN is a starting point to get yourself established here. It's free and it is required to establish residence. Ok?

  2. Hi all,

I'm preparing the I-134 for my fiance's interview at the US Consulate, yeah! Do they also requires forms of evidence, such as...

    - employee letter with title and salary

    - tax returns

    - copy of financial statements (bank, investments, etc.)

    Thanks!

Generally if your income is sufficient (refer to the poverty guidelines), the following documents should be enough proof:

    1) Employment Letter that indicates your job title, salary and date of hire/years of service. This should be in a company letterhead with appropriate signature.

    2) Tax transcript for the last 3 years

    3) Pay stubs (3-4 is ok)

  3. Hello all,

For anyone going through the Paris embassy: did they require you to show the I-894 in addition to the I-134? Also, with regard to I-134, what kind of documentation did they seem most interested in: taxes, paycheck stubs, etc?

    Merci!!

    Kate

Hi - I-134 will be sufficient. I'm the USC spouse and I only submitted a copy of my tax transcript (last 3 years), 4 pay stubs, employment letter (in a company letterhead) detailing my job position, my annual salary and my date of hire. My income is sufficient so I didn't have to show any other assets (like 401k stuff, life policies, mortgage deed, etc).

  4. For what it's worth - Lars was denied entry in October/2008 and sent back to Copenhagen and it had NO impact on his interview. No delays, nothing. They asked him what happened and that was it.

Same for my fiance from France. He was denied entry under VWP in 2008, was sent back to France immediately. No interview delay or whatsoever. He just had to mention that in his DS-156 form and even explained the situation to the CO during his interview. He got his K-1 visa after all that.

  5. Perhaps it's an obvious one...perhaps not, but I'm a little confused with the visa fee 'pre-interview' to the National Visa Center. From everything I had previously read the only fee you pay the NVC was for the Affidavit of Support during the AOS. Also it lists on here the 107 euros as well.. can someone that has gone through the US Embassy in Paris give me the low down on what fees needed to be paid when. I'm just a little confused! :help:

If this is for a K-1 application, there are 2 kinds of fees. One is for the visa and one is for the medical exam. None of these are payable to the NVC.

For the visa -- I checked my fiance's packet 4 information, you have to get 91.70 euros mandat compte from the French post office payable to the U.S. Embassy Account: 2006L.

For the medical exam - it is 170 euros.

All these fees will be outlined in packet 4 which will be sent to the French fiance once the packet 3 requirement is fulfilled.

  6. Thanks for the response! He is visiting his parents for the holidays and will not return to Paris until after Christmas. He asked his roommate to open it to look at the documents and it wasn't very helpful because he found the papers difficult to look over. So we will be patient!

Packet 3 includes most of the forms he need to fill out except for DS-156 which need to be filled out online and printed because you'll need the bar code. But take it a step at a time. Like I mentioned earlier, it's the DS-230 Part 1 and DS-2001 that must be mailed back first in order for the consulate to schedule him for an interview. It normally takes 3-4 weeks from the time you mail these forms back to get packet 4 (which has the appointment letter and medical exam instructions). Use this time to make sure he has all the docs he needs including the affidavit of support. Work on the timing...it's not very difficult to obtain all the docs in time for his interview. Let us know how you're coming along. There are 4-5 of us here in the France portal who just went thru the K-1 visa ordeal recently. We'll be here to help you.

  7. My fiance just received his packet 3, and this went much more quickly than expected! This question is to 'ease' my mind and to make things clear for both of us... what exactly does he need to return via mail after the packet 3, just the DS-156/K? He has everything with the exception of the affidavit of support I will send because I wanted to make sure it was as close to his interview as possible. Does he need all of the contents to the affidavit of support to be sent or does he just need to keep all of these things for the interview? Also, does he need original copies of my birth certificate (along with my co-sponsor)? Any information or any detailed link would be greatly appreciated! We will be dealing with the US Embassy in Paris if that helps as well.

    Thank you! :D

    B. and W.

Did he receive the Interview Preparation Instructions doc? STEP ONE of the instructions indicate to send back a completed DS230-Part 1. If he's ready to be interviewed, he should also send the DS2001 form along. All other docs are not required until the day of the interview.

  8. Maybe it wasn't even a proper RFE that we got if there is no case number on it?

This really sounds strange. NO1 to me is just to acknowledge that they received the petition. Any missing docs would be determined between N01 and N02 stage/s. Divorce decrees come in all shapes and forms based on the state. Whether it's a one pager or multiple pages, they simply want it certified with a seal of some sort. You certainly need to have a case number in order to turn in additional paperwork they asked OR if your fiance has a copy of that letter, make a copy of that and attach it to the divorce decree when he/she sends it back.

  9. It's not hard but it can still be time consuming. It's not our full time job (although for some it seems like it is) to go through people's life story here. When I first read her post, my first reaction was "NO WAY" but luckily she had something posted in November that talks about her situation. What if this was from months and months back?

It's true it can take a bit of time.

Or one can just summarily call the OP a liar.

The alternative might be to ask the OP why they think this has happened.

Up to each person to decide how they handle themselves.

you are all right,i mabe should have informed everyone all the facts right offn the bat.but theren are people on here whom are so rude .it discourages people from posting when others are rude.notsure i wanna post on this site anymore.i wish you all the best of luck.

No Bridget -- don't feel that way. We all get bashed here for being ambiguous but we learn from it. They are simply telling us here to minimize (if not stop) sending false or misleading information because a lot of people here take advises and warnings to heart. The whole journey is pretty intense. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

  10. Wasnt planning on making this public... but maybe someone has something to offer that would help. At this point nothing can hurt. He had his appointment at 8am. I stayed up all night waiting to hear news... and still have not slept. Then I finally get a call... from the beginning it immediately went south. A woman interviewed him. She wasnt nice at all. Was very harsh and accusing. She asked questions like.. for starters because our paperwork was soo organized, too organized in her opinion, she thought our relationship was fake and even said soo. She asked where we met. We met on a chat group on the internet. She at that point looked it up on the internet and tried to look for my profile. She could not find it because I have not been on there since we met in February 2008. So then again she accussed him of lying. She refused to take all the proof we had. And I had tons of it. She refused to look at out pictures... had tons of those too. She didnt take anything... and she grilled him for about 25 minutes and the whole time accussing us of being fake. Its soo laughable and completely obsurd.

They did not give him a paper. No paper at all. I thought he would get a paper that said SOMETHING! But he didnt get anything. She gave him back his passport and told him they would call him, and 'bye'.

    I just cant believe it.

The not so good part is the fact that she gave him his passport back. If there is one more tinge of hope, it will be at least to have the passport in their possession. Call DOS @202-663-1225, press 1 and then 0.

  11. I just received my NOA2. How will I know when my petition reaches the NVC and then the embassy? Do I have to call them or will the USCIS let me know when I log in to their website?

I want to thank everyone in advance. I have been looking at this site for the past year trying to figure it all out and it has been so helpful. I finally decided to register today. So yeah, thank you!!!

Call NVC @ 603 334-0700. They will ask for your USCIS receipt number to confirm if they have it. If they have it, make sure to obtain your NVC Case#. The case# is what is being used in the consulate to track visa applications.

Thank you so much. I called today and they said they received my case 2 days ago and sent it to the embassy today. That's quick!! I hope we can get an interview soon!!!

Oh that's great! You noted your NVC case# right? Give it 2 months from now til the interview. If you look at the France member timelines, it should give you an idea how long they turn this around on an average. Start gathering docs while you're waiting. If you want to know what sort of docs they will require, let me know and I'll PM you the list that I got in my packet 3.

  12. OP has been a member of these forums since August. So I doubt there's any 'trolling' going on.

OP's fiance is an Iraqi living in Sweden who applied for asylum in that country in 2007.

you are right he is from iraq and i have been marriedbefore and we alsomhave an age difference so yes we had multible hits.and i wouldnt waste your time.this post was to inform and help other members.i emailed the embassey because we havent recieved our 4 packet yet at that time i toold them i was leaving for sweden that day to be there for his interview.they requested i call the embassey when i arrived.and yes i did and was told to come tallk to consulate as soon as i could.so i went the next morning.and yes i was interviewed for 2 hrs.and asked about previous marriages .my family his family and our relationship.its was very scarey .

If your intent is to inform members, then you should do so. Posting under a flag of Sweden when your fiance is Iraqi is misleading and not giving details of all the issues you had serves no purpose. Nothing like what happened to you will happen to people marrying Swedish citizens and going through the US consulate in Sweden. The result (but maybe not purpose) of your post was to worry a lot of people unnecessarily. Please give all the details if you intend to inform.

I retract my call of "horsesqueeze" Good luck.

In the future, in cases of an 'unusual' post, it's not hard to go back to the member profile for further details. A simple hunt through past posts is also easy enough to do.

Bridget - this definitely happens anywhere. It happens in France too when the beneficiary happens to have roots in an Arab country. You're right, your case seem to have all the wrong keywords enough to send an entourage your way. Best of luck on your interview day.

  14. hi everyone, just wanted to know , how can i show phone calls as an evidence when the no. i dial doesn't show up on my verizon bill because i use calling card to call her, i first have to dial the third party no . then my pin then her number. So on my bill i only see the third party no.

any suggestions, i only have cell phone

    thanks

I also used a calling card and I have been calling from my celphone. I didn't really sweat over this since it is fairly common now that people use calling cards to save $$ making international calls. I submitted my mobile billing statement and highlighted the 1-800 access numbers there as well as SMS. If they are in doubt, they can call that number to confirm that it's a calling card company. Explain how it works to them and you should be fine.

  15. Geez.

A Blue Slip on Interview Day @ GUZ is NOT a Denial.

It is a request for more evidence to be submitted.

ON THE PAPER itself, is a list of things that are 'ticked off' -

The IV Unit waits until the evidence is submitted. In most cases, the Beneficiary can submit - otherwise the Petitioner must do.

Give them what they ask for - supply cover letters for EACH THING, explain EACH THING in EACH cover letter.

    GOOD LUCK !

    Darnell,

I could have given them everything they asked for the following week but one item. They asked for 4506 tax form, from my co-sponsor (which are "certified" tax forms for the past 3-years) and these forms take 60-days to get from the IRS.

Do you know how long thy will hold my documents? The IRS stated it would take 60-days.

Also, since they are asking for more information do I need to file an extension, we are now 240 something days into to this process?

    Thanks

    Marc

4506 is the tax transcript. It doesn't take 60 days to get that. You can in fact go to your local IRS office and it's free.

  16. OMG....LMAO!!!!! You kill me! Thanks for the laugh (although I'm thonkin that you didn't really mean for it to be Funnny!!!) it just sounds like something My Honey would say! Except he calls me a different name! You need to relocate to Chicago so we can hang out together!!! Yes, I'm sorry he forgot the number! My Honey made it sound like it's already on a piece of paper that they give you at the post office! I better remind him and just stress him out just a little bit more!!!

LOL... sadly my dear virtual buddy, we didn't think about capturing the tracking number before he gave the chronopost away. When I asked him about that this morning, he's like "willl youuuuuuu just stay still and be pretty and wait for your le petit poulet to come home?" Hoookhaayyyyy I shut up in the corner and just well... be pretty.

Oh I'm being funny..lol. I'm sure your honey is a lot more immigration savvy than mine. Jon is like "why the hell do I need to know where you were born? you're not a zit that came out of nowhere, are you??!?!" I'd like to be a fly on the wall during his interview...I'm pretty sure it was like one of those sitcom spoofs. :bonk:

  17. Hello,

My fiance had his interview today in Paris and he's been approved for a K-1 visa. :D

It's my understanding that embassies normally give out either a blue or white or pink or green slip(s). He didn't get any of that and was simply told he will get his visa in 10 days. Question is -- should he be getting a slip to confirm it's approved or no slip is good enough?

I will post his interview experience shortly. He's on his way back to his hometown and I'll be speaking with him tonight to get the scoop but it looks like we're all set.

Thanks to everyone here on VJ for all the help and for continuously posting helpful information.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ohhhhhh....do you have the tracking number that is the number under the barcode from the post office???? You can track it!!! (that is what another VJ'r told me!!) we aren't that far yet though, but soooooooon!!!!

LOL... sadly my dear virtual buddy, we didn't think about capturing the tracking number before he gave the chronopost away. 18. anyway, we are going to fill the I-134, i really hope you guys are sure.

'cause we dont need it to be delayed or denied.

We'll never wish a delay or denial on anyone. You did the right thing by reading previous posts to see what has been submitted by others. It didn't sound like we can convince you just by staying on this thread alone.

  19. hey i'm wondering if he will have to buy a one way ticket. or if they will let him buy a roundtrip ticket because it costs a lot less.

    Buy whatever is affordable.

do they really not care if you buy a round trip ticket? i thought they would make us buy a one way.

If you're coming under a K-1 visa, round trip or one way tickets don't matter. They don't care..really they don't. Don't worry about it.
