I do see a judgment here, twice - "you're looking to not pay for something you got." That's not how I read this. He didn't know if she was eligible. He DID ask, and was told no. He accepted that and was looking for alternate methods when *they* contacted *him* to say oh you're in luck, we found a way to get you covered. He thought, "oh, thank goodness" - not knowing that the way they did it was to falsify a piece of information that he clearly gave them *accurately*.
Now, the issue is that if he had researched alternative ways, he would have gotten *assistance* with the situation, as someone in need of help because he did not have coverage. Anyone who has ever had a lapse in coverage knows that medical providers will work with patients of lesser means to assist them in meeting their obligations. Typically, they charge them quite a bit less.
That didn't happen for OP, because medicaid told him he was covered. So his wife's care was billed at full price.
Whatever you might think about the fact that different people pay different amounts for the same services, it's a fact. And the fact is, OP would have been billed less for everything had he used alternative resources to pay for the pregnancy.
So now OP has been billed at the "insured" rate and is being told he has to pay back at that rate. When it's not his fault that he was billed at that rate - he was honest and legitimately believed he was covered. Now what he has to pay back is way more than what his bills would have been had medicaid stayed with their original judgment of turning him down.
That is, in fact, not fair to OP, as it was Medicaid's mistake.
He's not looking not to pay for the care. He's looking to pay what he *legitimately* owes - which is the reduced rate offered to under- or un- insured patients. There's nothing wrong with that.
    Just my 2 cents.

Even though there is Islamaphobia present in the USA, there is a general distaste for all immigrant groups. In the past, when immigrants came to the USA they strived to acclimate and assimilate into the American culture. Now, many immigrants come to America and demand that we bend over backward to learn their language and culture. I believe this is what fuels the current anti-immigrant sentiment seen in the USA.

I dont have time but do you see me wearing a "tent"?---half the women in his family choose not to cover, mostly younger generation...most Muslim women would want to do it, even the ones from non-conservative countries. Only extremists do what you describe...most Muslims arent extremists. They are like anyone else if you took the time to get to know them.

I work in a major cancer institute here in Atlanta. I work with citizens of just about every country. It is one of the wonderful things about my career as a Cancer Molecular Biologist. My research is only perpetuated by my interactions with these wonderful and brilliant people I get to associate myself with. The ability to embrace all of the cultures around the world. I have a female friend who is Muslim. She is devoted to her religion. She prays at all of the prayer times. We have had wonderful conversations regarding the differences. She is one of the kindest people I know.
I guess the best way to defeat it is to get to know and understand someone who is genuine and realize there is nothing to be afraid of.
The conclusion that all Muslims are like the taliban (I refuse to capitalize) is like saying all whites are members of the KKK
It is very sad with the Bigotry I see in America. I even see it on posts here in VJ. I love my country and very proud to be an American. Meaning being the American that views America as the land of the free from religious persecution and being able to pursue your dreams as long as they don't hurt anyone else. Unfortunately, America has strayed from that process.
I don't believe in ANY war or conflict in the name of a God. Unfortunately, Jihad inherently defines what the holy war is and that force is OK.
I can't be a part of that either. Just as I can't be a part of christianity's war against whatever their current agenda is. Right now, the Anti-Gay movement is a big one. If you don't approve of a Gay Marriage, by all means don't get one. It doesn't threaten my sexuality nor my freedom here in America.
Lack of intolerance just threatens to further divide this great nation in what is already an extremely divided nation.
I am deeply saddened by what I see going on around me. I wish John Lennon was still alive.

Just like any other "phobia," i.e., gay, asian, black, white, green, catholic, jew, blue, christian, red, mexican, hindu, etc....ad nauseam....... The road to acceptance and understanding is through mindfulness, tolerance, education, and mindfulness. Change doesn't happen overnight, avoid spreading hateful actions and hateful words and hateful news.

Vimto is the special iftar drink in my family. I only ever buy it during Ramadan and it has to be the concentrate cordial that you mix, not the ready-made stuff
    mmmmm...Vimto
Hibiscus tea can make a fun special treat too when brewed very strongly, really sweetened and then frozen in small plastic baggies, then slit the corner and eat it like a popsicle. Tangy and sweet, love it

Also, we in this forum have been warning women for YEARS about scammers, cheats, abusers, etc and what to look for. No one takes heed of any warnings. Many people get pissed about the warnings and act like others are jealous of their happiness or are just being "mean" and miserable. The warnings don't help, unfortunately.

Today my husband and I celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary. It's a milestone that I'm proud to have achieved. We've grown and changed so much together in the last ten years. I feel like we're in a comfortable routine in our relationship and with our two boys. We went to Disney World last month to celebrate.
I hope and pray for many more happy years together.

Not only difficulties for you, possible difficulties for others as well. Willingly importing an abuser is basically bringing a criminal into the country. Someone who will not only abuse you but perhaps your children, your parents, other women...you get the idea.
Maybe we should discuss some of the warning signs to look for in case actual physical abuse hasn't taken place in the home country. Of course, if actual hitting, beating, slapping, pushing, etc. has taken place in the home country, it WILL continue in the US. It's not the country making the person abusive, it's the actual person that is abusive. If anyone thinks culture makes one abusive, what makes them think that will be left behind in the home country?
Also, I can't even begin to count how many abuse cases we've had in this forum in the past 6.5 yrs I've been a member here. Almost all of them stay with their abuser or go back at least one more time after leaving. It's so frustrating to become emotionally invested just to see the victim return to their abuser.

Recent posts have reminded me that some people view abuse as a cultural phenomenon, or something that will be resolved under the right circumstances (like living in America).
So, this is something of a plea to anyone who has been hit or treated poorly by your spouse/fiance still living in their country - LEAVE HIM THERE! Do not fool yourself into thinking that he won't beat or mistreat you in America, or it's just the stress of living in his homeland that leads him to beat you. If he's beaten you in his home country and you are safely in America- PLEASE LEAVE HIM IN HIS COUNTRY! It will not go away here.
I'm sure none of us want to judge anyone going through a difficult and/or abusive situation, even when it's hard to understand how anyone would petition for someone who's physically fought/abused/mistreated them in the home country. But, please if any of the VJ members are in this situation and the guy isn't here in America, please don't bring him here; it will only lead to more difficulties for you.

There was one reply before yours, in which FBI stats on DV were calmly and objectively quoted. There were not plural replies as you indicate, nor did that one reply = a touchy subject. That was quite a leap.
The reality is if a woman will connect herself to domineering, overbearing, possibly abusive man of one culture, she'd connect herself to a domineering, overbearing, possibly abusive man of any other culture.
If you use culture as an excuse for poor behavior, you would use another excuse in another relationship for poor behavior. It's personality traits and dynamics overlooked, ignored or excused by "culture".

Fuul public service announcement - refried beans are made from pinto beans, fuul is made from fava beans. You can find canned fuul mudamas/fava beans in any Mid Eastern market or section of most grocery stores. They don't taste the same so it's not a proper substitute. The only similarity is texture and even that isn't exact. Egyptian fuul mudamas usually includes cumin, salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon. I also add garlic powder. I mash the beans with a heavy, heat proof cup/glass before serving.
