  1. so i got an email last night from USCIS regarding the I-485, it said they sent an RFE... so I will have to wait til I get the actual letter..

can anyone tell me what the usual RFEs are?

    we sent the

I-485 forms, filled out and signed,

    I-131 filled out and signed

    I-765-filled out and signed

    I-864 filled out and signed

G-325a filled and signed (1 page)

    passport photos (6)

photocopy of my visa and passport

    photocopy of birth certificate

    photocopy of I-94(front and back)

    wedding pix(4)

    money order $1,010

photocopy of marriage license, marriage certificate

sealed brown envelope from civil surgeon

so I don't know if we have forgot to send something else or whatever, but I would appreciate for some to let us know if we sshould've sent more docs than what I posted :)

    thanks!

Hi, we both have the RFE, mine is I-693 but I already sent that with my documents. They are asking another I-693, I do not know if they do not accept it because Dr. Arnold signed it.

Better to wait and don't worry too much because I was thinking about mine before because I know I already gave all the required documents.

  2. I got my RFE about I-693, transcribed by DR. Arnold... maybe the reason is the date signature but I do not sure about that. I chose to spend $30 because some are asking too much. I just had my vaccinations again and this Monday I will get another I-693. I paid $70 and the insurance paid for vaccination and other test.

What do you mean by "date signature" though?

I wonder if the RFE's from Dr. Arnold's transcription is due to lack of vaccinations? Like, I had toI get all my shots done before I can interview in Montreal, so I'm completely up to date with my shots. But some countries dont require that -- and those vaccinations are required for AOS?

Anyway Ill let you guys know what happens with my application that we plan to send on Monday! :)

I was able to send my I-693 twice to Dr. Arnold, because my middle name was incorrect. I gave the 1st page of I-693 with my signature dated Oct 19, 2009, and Dr. Arnold signature was Oct. 14. They just change the 1st page. According to him, I do not need another vaccination.

Then I got my RFE for I-693, I went to the CS in our area as written in my RFE. I suppose to have to shots but we found out that I am pregnant.

    typo- two shots

    Then I got my RFE

" Submit a properly completed and signed form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, (Rev 6/05/08 or later) for the applicant on Form I-485. The medical examination must be conducted by a civil surgeon who has been designated by USCIS. The medical must be issued less than 1 yr prior to the filing date of Form I-485....The CS must conduct the exam as directed in the instructions to Form-I693, etc..."

I went to the CS designated by USCIS in our area . I hope USCIS will accept it.

  4. Wow, I can't believe Dr. Arnold is retiring. I just spoke with Tammy yesterday and she said that my I-693 form which they received last Monday was completed and sent back.

Im quite worried about using him as the CS who transcribed my vaccination after reading this thread. However, I also did not want to pay $$$ to "see" a CS who will sign off my vaccination. I called 4 CS offices in Maryland, all of them first off, cant see me until mid-December and all of them are charging me between 160-220 USD to see them.

Also, none of their idiotic receptionists understand that I already received a full medical by a CS-approved physician in Canada (who btw is also American) and insit that I have to get a full medical. And if what I "claim" to say is true (which insulted me btw, because who knows more about my K1 visa than me right???), and that I really dont need a medical, I still have to pay 160-220 dollars to get the stupid transcriptions.

I might get an RFE for this, I might not. But USCIS put Dr. Arnold on their list, and if they think he's illegal, why not take his name off?

  5. I got BS Business Administration degree.. can I also get teaching job? Just wondering.

You can go back to school and obtain your teaching credential. Having a math background is very helpful, as they are always looking for math teachers. You can bring your transcripts to a college and have them review it, to see what courses you would need to take for a credential. You might need only education courses and psych courses, if you have enough math. School Districts like to hire people who have real world experience in their field, so they encourage such people to go into teaching.

Yep, you need the course-by-course credential evaluations, general evaluation is not enough. They used it in licensing and continuing education if you want a teaching credential.

  6. In the Philippines before you become a public school substitute teacher you should have the bachelor degree and license to teach...

Plus, demo teaching, examinations, and they have the ranking system as the memorandum of Phil. Dep't of Education.

In US, each state has the rulings how to be qualified as teacher. If a person is foreign educated, for example in the Phil. High School diploma is not enough to be a substitute teacher because Phil has different curriculum and number of years in school. 6 years in primary education, 4 yrs in secondary educations and minimum of 4 years to have the degree.

Here in MN if you want to be a teacher, TOR must be evaluated by the credential evaluators designated by the MN Department of Education. In credential evaluators, some required the original TOR esp accredited by NACES. Some required to pass in the licensing. There is a porftfolio licensing but I don't think foreigner educated teacher is qualified to have it.

So, even well educated and well qualified in the Phil, here is very different.

R.N ., Foreign educated nurse must have the bachelor degree and pass the licensing which they said very difficult. The credential is also evaluated some spend $350 for evaluations. The licensing office will be the one who will ask the credentials to the institution to avoid fraud.

LPN here in MN, required 2 years and thousands of $$$

CNA here is 2 months, still need $... many Filipina here is working as nurse assistance

  7. hi im also a former public school teacher from manila, I think teaching here vary diffending on what state you are. Im here in Indiana, in order for me to go back on teaching my TRO need to be evaluated by the State chosen Evaluator & I need to pass a test that would cost me $300 all. I tried to pass application to be teacher Aid but i was not legible because i need to pass para pro test. Its quite hard to get to teaching here but with patience & persistence maybe my time will come.

to find a job here in this tough times, i think volunteering will help you, try to find volunteer work in your church, in the community or in the nursing home.

Hi everyone! I got my EAD last month, and soon as I received it,I started sending resume online, filling out applications online. It's been a month now and there are no calls I receive for job interview at least.

How did you guys get a job? Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am not picky, I just want a job. I've been trying sites like snagajob.com, i applied at DD online and it is so frustrating how they could say you are not qualified for the job only after answering few simple questions. I find it unfair for them to screen their applicants that way.

    I am getting frustrated.

Try craiglist.org, mostly Filipina here in our place work at Cub or other groceries....

Do your have TOR? I am a public school teacher in the Phil and I am qualified to teach in College in our country with many national seminars and certificates, but since I am in America they have high standard since we have different curriculum. In my case they need a course-by-course credential evaluations in my TOR.

It depends upon the work and what they requires.

    Good luck!!!

Yeah i brought all my credentials.I tried checking schools here in NJ, il be applying for substitute teacher certificate wherein my TOR will be evaluated since we have different grading systems in Phils and then hopefully il be able to work as substitute teacher. There was one school who did not ask for any teaching certifications, they simply asked if i have my masters.Good thing I have finished my masters. It will take time to get teaching job that's why I am tryin my luck in finding whatever jobs available.

Try www.careerbuilder.com. Good Luck on job hunting! :star:

i check that too everyday:) thanks.

Yep, it's hard to get teaching job here in US. I paid for credential evaluations that I will use for licensing or employment purpose. Mine is just $125 combine bachelor and masteral and that evaluator is accredited by NACES, some asked for $250-$350 for combine credentials (Course-by-Course).

I do not yet receive the evaluations but I probably try my luck in what ever job available too. :) because it's hard to find teaching jobs.

From the application form i filled out, it says that after filing the form, il be able to receive the substi certificate after 8-10 working days. Yup the fee is $125 and $70 for fingerprinting. Good luck to us. Yeah any job will do. I will be very happy if i get a job soon, whatever it is.lol

Can you give me an idea about substitute teacher certificate? What I did is credential evaluation as part of the requirements for licensing... I can use it for employment purpose but that is not a certification. If I am qualify for licensing examination I need the fingerprinting too. Here the fingerprinting is just $10-$15.

I know what you feel, we both working in the Philippines, buy whatever we want... then we are here jobless!!!

But we may not have a job as of now but we have someone who loves us... and we must be thankful for that. For sure we will have our luck.

My mother in law is a teacher in grade school and she advised me to take substitute teacher certificate so i can work in elementary school. It is easier to get a job. Try to google it "substitute teacher certificate"in your area. You can check it with the District school too.

Hi, I am teacher-on-leave from Valenzuela. Did you take the examination? I do not have an idea about taking the examinations but I know the steps. Your state has the same rulings for licensing. I paid $125 for combine bachelor degree and masteral in the accredited evaluators of NACES, same as what you did. But as of now I do not receive the result, I need to pass for examination , I think the fee is around $85 and fingerprinting is $10-$15. But there is no assurance that I will pass.

I do not know if we are qualify in a day care, but we need some certifications like First Aid/CPR $95 (Red Cross), etc.

    Thanks for the ideas.

  9. I hope they accept insurance. My doctor certainly did not accept insurance and from what I read, most CS do not accept insurance... So be prepared to pay...

    All the best!!

    Cheers..

so you are going to have it done again (full medical exam)?

Yes, I started calling the civil surgeon in MN, as of now the cheapest is $70 and maybe increase. I will call again another CS tomorrow... I do not know if my medical insurance will help.

Too bad, I thought I already done with the AOS payment and focus in my credential expenses. When I was in the Philipines I helped my husband for the visa expenses because I had a job... too bad another I-693 expenses.

  10. so you are going to have it done again (full medical exam)?

I do not need the full medical but I need to accomplish my I-693

I know you dont, but as far as I know the majority of CS require full medical check-up and refuse to just transcribe vacinations  I also used dr.Arnolds services and I anticipate receiving RFE for I-693

In my case they had my paper twice because I asked them to change my middle name but the nurse was able to send it back immidiately without changing my middle name. They changed the 1st page and I signed it Oct. 19, but they didn't change the last part and dr. Arnold signature was Oct. 14.

I will able to call some CS designated by the USCIS tomorrow, and I even printed the instruction that we do not need the full medical and even the I-693 update last Nov. 1 by the USCIS, because the I-693 form is already updated.

  11. just last night i was feeling weird, hopeless until this morning when i received an email from USCIS about my case status. Thank God! Never lose hope, that is one thing that we should bear in mind and PATIENCE....Though mine was kinda running thin last night about job hunting.:)

    Congratulations...

I got my RFE today :crying:

  12. I just got my RFE and it's the I-693.

I know there are many who have their GC now using the service of Dr. Arnold. I am not against him because he offered just $30 for his service.

In my case, I sent my I-693 1st page to Dr. Arnold but my middle name was incorrect so I immidiately informed them but it was already sent back to me, so I sent it back to his office to change it. They changed the 1st page, but not the other pages.

I gave an explanation letter with my sealed envelop but still I have my RFE. But I still thumbs up to Dr. Arnold. This post is not against him.

    Thanks

Dr. Arnold has been deemed by some COs as not conducting the business of completing the I-693 correctly, as he does not (did not, he's just retired) verify applicant's ID in person.

You do not need a full medical because you completed yours within 1 year of filing your AOS. You DO need to get a local CS to transcribe your vaccines to the I-693. Depending on your area, you may or may not have problems with the CS refusing to only transcribe.

Your medical results should be with the NVC, transferred there by the CO that handled your visa at the POE. It is contained in the brown envelope. I would confirm that they have your medical results on file.

If there is a CS who is offering to do the complete medical AND transcription for only $70 this is a very good price and for simplicity, get it done!

Yep... thanks, I read it in the revised instruction of I-693. I do not need the full medical, one offered $70 because I told her that I am a K immigrant visa holder, she first told me $150 because I told her for immigration purpose.

I will call again another Civil Surgen designated by USCIS to get a good deal or I might get the $70 deal. Thanks

  13. Effective 1st December 2009, Dr. Arnold is retiring so will no longer be transcribing vaccination records. Can anyone reccomend another Doctor who doesn't charge extortionate prices?

Hi, I just got my RFE and Dr. Arnold did my I-693, but I am not against him. They asked me to give another I-693. I am now calling the civil surgeon in our area. You can call them and ask how much, tell them that you are a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical overseas, you are not required to have another medical as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examinations... etc. I tried to download the revised I-693 instructions.

Hi! sorry for your RFE,I am sure everything gonna be OK. by the way, what did RFE say exactly?does USCIS require you to go to a different CS?

Hi, thanks... "submit a properly completed and signed Form I-693, Report of medical examination and vaccination record, (REV. 6/5/08 or later).... The civil surgeon must conduct the exam as directed in the instructions to form I-693, etc..."

    I think there is a Form I-693 rev. 10/14/09

  16. Speaking very generally, yes girls/women from that part of the world tend to mature quicker. They have a better sense of family and are more responsible. They are raised with a stronger sense of value and obligation, a lot of which comes from being very poor. Having said all of that however, teenagers are teenagers no matter where you go! The same can be said of women too! They have the same wants and desires and the same tendancies. Just because they come from the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, etc., doesn't mean they're not still human females! In no way do I mean that derrogatory or as words of discouragement. Hell, I married a woman 15 years younger!! What I am saying is just because she's very mature for 18/19 doesn't mean she's NOT still just 18/19!! The age gap really isn't the issue at all. The "age" is. Only you can judge whether or not she's old enough or mature enough.

    You got the point

  17. My husband married his ex-wife when he was also 35 yo and the Filipina is also 19 yo... she got her visa and no problem about the age difference. You must prove that you have genuine relationship. There were Filipina who were denied because of the age difference nowadays, but around 40 years difference...

Some Filipina are mature at the age of 18 but some are not, my husband has a regret of marrying his ex-wife when she was 19 yo. She was not ready for married life, she didn't know what she wanted... she came here for marriage but few months afterwards forgot being a wife. Stole $300 at the age of 19 here in US, have bf in the Philippines, Have bf's in US, working but hardly share for the bills but bought all what she wants materially, has a nasty mouth, and got pregnant with another man. During the divorced wanted 50% of the house value which she never paid and her name was not even there. Since she is the wife as divorce settlement my husband is paying $10,000 of her student loan.

There are still young Filipina who has genuine heart to love a person, what happened to my husband might happen or not to others. Every one is different, but I do believe that there are many Filipina who has a genuine motives in marrying a foreigner and there are many Filipina who are good hearted

    Your Husband is a "her"

Also, Stop Bashing his ex wife, not cool and really no point. Just makes you sound Jealous

Thanks for the correction, it's a simple grammar which even other Filipina have the mistake, and we know the usage of her and his and it's not a big deal, this is a forum and some are asking for help, some responded negatively, but it's there personality. I do not want to level negatively, in a negative comment. I do believe what I write here has a point, there are many people who are sharing there time to respond as a help and I hope everyone be respectful and not to be rude whether we like it or not.

Sometimes it's so easy to comment because we are not in the position, then when we experience the same thing we will realize why someone reacted that way. I am not jealous because I have my husband... my point, he married a young girl and was not ready for married life, but I even pointed there that not all young woman are like that. I even pointed there that the age gap is not a big problem...

    Thanks.

  18. Hi,

I am a teacher and used to be a substitute teacher. What I had to do was just go to the school district main office, ask about substitute teaching, and then they give you the application and things needed to fill out, then you pay the fees, attend some orientation meetings and safety meetings. You can apply to several different districts, if you are able to get to travel to different locations, and once you are in their system, they will call you to substitute.

You will probably start out just with day to day jobs. Sometimes the school systems have a phone system set up where you can call to see what jobs are available for that day and accept them. Once they become familiar with you and see how well you work with the children, a particular teacher may start to request you. Also, the principle can see how well you work and you will get more work, and possibly longer term assignments.

Depending on the district, you may only need a Bachelor's Degree to substitute. Down here in the south, you don't even need that. But to be a long term substitute, in one position for a semester, for example, you need to be highly qualified for that grade level. Again, sometimes there are exceptions. There are also substitutes for teacher's aides, which is another possibility.

Interestingly, I used to live in San Francisco, and there were a lot of teachers from your country working in the SF school district. They said that their training at home was aligned with the U.S.'s. Maybe things have changed.

Hi thanks for the information, it helps.

Thanks for the information about that. Good luck to us.
