They do a random selection of applicants and ask them those type of questions?
Ah no sorry that was a very English response. Basically I meant that seemed totally out of the blue and unexpected

Infact most of the questions were about my wife's brother and Kids!
That's random!

My Dad is coming to visit from the UK in September. I doubt very much it could or will happen but maybe I'll get an interview or oath date when he's over! This is probably the last time he'll come visit due to his age/health - so that would be a cool experience for him to see.

Hi All,
I just returned home the interview. I pass the test but the officer said decision cannot yet be made about my application. I asked him when I was going to hear from him and he said within a month I should expect a letter. I was very nervous. I told the officer that after the interview. He said that is what happen when people come to his office...they nervous. I was not prepared for the sort of questions they asked. Anyone filling base on marriage should prepare as if they are going for the adjustment of status interview. A bad day.
I'm sorry to hear that Gazy! What sort of questions did they ask you?
How did you fare on the civics questions?
I'm sure you'll get an update soon, don't get too disheartened!

Hello.Just want to share my experience .Mailed my N400 form on may 20 2017 from NYC to the Texas office, NOA date is may 30 2017 and did early biometrics on june 12 2017 still my status didn't changed to in line for interview . So i decided to the inquiry on USICS website and that what i got on my email.
Thank you for contacting USCIS concerning the above-referenced application. Below is a summary of what we have found and how the issue has been resolved or additional action required.
Please be advised that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is committed to adjudicating immigration benefits in a timely, efficient manner that ensures public safety and national security. Your N-400 application has been properly entered in our system, but is not ready for adjudication. At this time, it has yet to be scheduled and we apologize for any inconvenience that this processing has taken. We are currently experiencing a back-log. Please allow 60 to 90 days for a notice to be sent to you. We apologize for the delay.
We hope this information is helpful and appreciate your continued patience.
If our response does not meet your expectations, or if you believe we have not addressed your concern(s), please schedule an INFOPASS appointment to speak with an immigration officer. Please bring this notice with you.
It sucks to wait, I get that. My status ONLY JUST changed last week from "biometrics have been scheduled" to "inline for interview" and that took 49 days alone. Some offices are busier than others, and I was hoping to process quicker than 49 days as so many other Boston filers did it in less than a week. Now I look back for Boston filers and I am just grateful it didn't take me 78 days like some of the filers from October of last year.

According to the USCIS website:
Field Office Processing Dates for Seattle WA as of: May 31, 2017: N-400 Application for Naturalization processing cases dated October 17, 2016 (so 7 months after they filed)So if you phone them, they're going to tell you 1. yes you're within the normal processing times, and 2. you probably have another couple of months wait before they would assist with helping you escalate things.

Thanks lovely alex, yes i did no one has ceromony at that day, i think if the ceromony on 15th that means no ceromony on 16th and vice versa. Am I right? Or they can have ceremony day after day ...
Honestly, I don't know. Can your friend not call the venue to confirm?
-
Did you check monthly filing threads to see if any Cincinnati filers entered in a ceremony date?
-
I looked online but I could only find dates for Cleveland... nothing was posted on the website for the South District of Ohio http://www.ohsd.uscourts.gov/naturalization

@lovelyalex your right !! I have to wait 5 months to be scheduled?
Nooooooo I meant they do 5 ceremonies on average a month in Boston, so I don't think you'll have long to wait for a date because they are always churning out citizens! If you look at the link I posted it shows what's already been scheduled (scroll down to the bottom for the Aug/Sept 2017 dates).
-
@Faith38 you'd probably want to have him come to the oath ceremony anyway, even if you didn't have a bad back, it's a big deal and should be celebrated after with a nice dinner and a celebratory drink!

@lovelyalex do you have any idea how long it usually takes to schedule the oath ceremony? I have to wait until Monday or after which is my card anniversary date . I hope I can get August 10th would be great, I can't go to Boston on my own I have a back injury so my husband would have to take me .
@Faith38 they typically do 5 a month in Boston - I only have dates upto the end of September: http://www.mad.uscourts.gov/general/pdf/Nat Cerm FY-17 USCIS.pdf

He should be fine - he has a case in progress.
From a quick google: "You are still a permanent resident, even if your green card has expired. On that basis, many people have chosen to simply apply for U.S. citizenship after their green card has expired, or not bother to renew the green card if it expires while they're waiting for a USCIS decision on their citizenship application."

I'm not really sure why it would get stuck there. From Western Europe, high degree, no record of any sort, definitely not a 'risky candidate' in any way.
You're thinking about this the wrong way... They have so many applications to sort through right now, for a variety of reasons (new president with strong opinions on immigrants, not to mention there is an increase in applications around an election year which adds to a backlog) on top of delays and processing issues with background checks last year. Scores and scores of people were delayed because their background checks had to be run again, even after they'd been interviewed and approved.
It's not personal. You, as an individual, are literally just a drop in the ocean right now, in a sea of drops waiting at various stages. Sure some people do go through a bit quicker and the waiting is tough... but hang in there!
But at this stage I would recommend what others have said and get an infopass at your FO and see what the scheduling hold up is.

I guess they are not VJ member right? The process for VJ members usually take longer than non VJ members. The more you care about the process, the slower it is

Thanks everyone! I'll have to admit. After a month went by I started to really get concerned about what terrible things they might have uncovered in a background check that I didn't know about... or worse, they thought I was someone else with a much more colorful past. My anxiety was really getting to me about it. I'm quite happy to sit in line now though for a while and obey the process.

So finally it's that time of our citizenship journey. Has everyone started studying for the interview?
I am wondering how many hours should be spend on studying for the 100 questions they'll be asking from. Thankfully there are android / ios apps we can use to study the Q&A these days.

The official app is pretty good. I also really like this site: http://civicsquestions.com/

If anyone is curious or reading from newer monthly threads, it took me 49 days to go "inline" from my bio appt.
