  1. Hey everyone.

I'm FINALLY getting around to applying for my first US passport after becoming a citizen last year - I did not have any travel planned so I had no need to have one at that time - and I'm a little confused by the "Spouse of Applicant" information section.

Apologies if this is a silly question. 😋

Has the applicant ever been married?

    The answer is "yes" ?

He's married to me, and ONLY been married to me.

So the for is asking for HIS information in that section?

  2. Well, everyone - it's almost here!

My oath ceremony is this Thursday!

    Applied May of 2020

    Had my interview April 18th

    Oath June 23rd

What a crazy journey it's been! Thank you to everyone for all their help from K-1 to AOS to N-400.

I'm sure I'll have a few questions about the last LAST steps after I receive my certificate, but for now, I'm just grateful for getting to this point. 🥹

  3. Well, everyone... Today I received my oath ceremony date!

    Thursday June 23rd

Back to Des Moines, which is a 2.5hr drive for me, so we'll probably make a day of it.

    So close!

Just want to say a big "Thank you!" to everyone here for all their help through my entire journey. 🥹

  4. Good news today - I FINALLY have an interview date!

April 18th - Des Moines, IA

My FOIA is still on step 3 (6576 in the queue) but it must've triggered something.

    Filed online May 6th 2020

Biometrics Reuse notice Jan 20th 2021

    Filed FOIA Feb 8th 2022

    Interview Scheduled Mar 8th 2022

I'm so happy! At least I have a month to prepare and gather up a few more things.

  5. 1 week since sending FOIA request and I am in Step 2.

I also received and printed out a letter from the director of FOIA Operations about how cases are handled. So that is with all my other stuff pertaining to my N-400.

"Estimated time of completion" for request is 3/28. So I have my fingers crossed that I'll hopefully be done by my birthday at the end of May.

    Hi Magen,

Here is the link to the FB group that has the instructions; https://www.facebook.com/groups/517983782770173/

The top post has the link and instructions.  There have been a couple more people who have gotten their interviews since filing the FOIA (all have different timelines).

I would also suggest once you get to step two of the FOIA to contact your congressman/woman for assistance.  There isn't really enough data to know for sure but three of us who did the combo of the two have gotten interview dates.  I hope that helps and I am happy to help if you get stuck.

Wonderful! I will be sure to join the group.

That will be my next step then. I'm just at the point now where I'll do anything to just be finished.

I will for sure reach out if I need any help. I appreciate it.

If you are still waiting, I would suggest you do.  It costs nothing and can't hurt, I would also suggest contacting your congressman/woman and senators as well.

The FOIA is kind of an unknown but there is a good handful of us that have received interviews after filing one.

Might be the next course of action to take. I'm getting close to 2 years and I have no clue if I'll be getting anywhere by that mark *sigh*

Is there a break down in this thread on how to file one? It looks like quite a few have. A little help would be appreciated. 😊

  8. Well, after being on the phone for 1 hr 19 mins - I got the response I expected. *sigh*

"I am awaiting to be scheduled for an interview"

    More of the waiting game.

I knew that's what I was going to be told, but wanted something to keep for my records that I spoke with someone.

Oh, I also asked about the case inquiry response that I never received. It apparently was sent to the correct email address, but it never showed up. I checked my spam and my trash - no sign of it. He was nice enough to have it sent to me, so I have that printed out and with my copies as well.

Sheesh. I'm still frustrated, but as at least an answer of "hurry up and wait some more" is better than still just sitting in the dark.

HOPEFULLY we'll hear something soon. I REALLY don't want to be driving across the state in the middle of winter.

May The Force be with us.

Similar story here from Brooklyn, NY - filed May 7, 2020, biometrics reuse notice February 12, 2021 and nothing since. My online USCIS time estimate has dropped to zero twice now - first time it jumped back up to 5 months, and last week it hit zero again. Status right now is: "Estimated time* until case decision: Things are taking longer than expected. You do not have to do anything at this time." Extremely helpful 😐

I requested Tier 2 support a couple months ago and received an email response:

"Thank you for your inquiry dated August 13, 2021. Requesting information about your N-400, Application for Naturalization. Our system shows that your N-400 application, which was filed approximately May 08, 2020, is pending and is within our current processing time. To determine current processing time within USCIS:

    • Visit https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/
    • Select N-400, Application for Naturalization, from the Form dropdown
    • Select the Field Office processing the application from the Field Office dropdown
    • Click Get Processing Time link

If your receipt date is before the Case Inquiry Date, you can submit an outside normal processing time service request online..." Extremely helpful 😐

Receipt date is within "normal processing time" so not much I can do? Super frustrating as I know someone in the exact same situation as me, who applied 6 MONTHS LATER, and has now just had their interview. Are things that disorganized in these offices?!

That's where my frustration lies, as well.

There is nothing to justify it taking this long, and as you said, there are people that have applied this year and are already having their interview.

Me having applied under the 5yr rule and doing it much later than that should have no difference. I barely leave the country as is, and have only lives in 2 places my entire life. My husband and I pay our taxes every year, we're both squeaky clean - except for a few speeding tickets on my end. It's just... I don't know. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to someone, but I have doubts I'll get the information I want.

If you say infopass as the reason for your call i think you'll be directed to someone.  By the way i've read on other pages that others had to get their congress reps and senators to send letters to USCIS.  Hope it doesn't get to that though.

I hope not either. I doubt I'd get very far with that in my state.

    I'll try the infopass route.

    Any help is always appreciated.

@magentahaze i agree with @Chrisfer77 i would call USCIS customer center and request a tier 2 office call back. If its been more than case completion time for des moines's case completion you can submit an inquiry.  Once again good luck!

I have already sent an inquiry and the date for an expected reply has passed, almost a month now.

I plan to call on Monday.

Never really sure how to navigate through the automated menus, but I always have my receipt # and my GC handy.
