  1. My fiance has his x-ray from the packet from POE. We just got married and received our marriage certificate & now preparing the documents for our AOS Package. One area of concern is the I693... this is already submitted during POE right?

He had his Medical in Seoul on April 23, 2009.

So, obviously, its less than 1 year old.

I am all confused now with this area....

  2. Adult aliens who are in the process of adjusting their status to a permanent resident or who have been lawfully admitted as a permanent resident for one year and one prior to the beginning date of the semester (documentation required) and who has resided in California for one year.

What do you guys think, this means? Fiance can qualify for Community College Residence Tuition?? now?? or not until 1 year later??

    It doesn't make sense... ~~

  3. I don't think you should submit documents that are not asked in this stage:

This is what I did for my COVER LETTER-- although our civil ceremony is Monday, it doesn't hurt to get an early start:

Nature of the submission: I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status

    To Whom It May Concern:

Enclosed please find my Form I-485, Fee of $930 + Biometrics Fee $80, I-693 Form, I-693A, I-864, I-765, and I-131, application to register for permanent residence adjust status after entry on K1 Visa.

    Contents include:

    - Copy of Hwang’s U.S. Entry Passport, first page (bio) + U.S. Entry Stamp Page.

    - Copy of Hwang’s K1 Visa page from passport

    - Copy of Hwang’s I94 (Front & Back)

    - Copy of K1 Visa Approval Notice of Action from USCIS for petition I129.

    - Copy of Birth Certificate-(Hwang) with English Translation

    - Copy of Marriage Certificate

    - G325A (Hwang)

    - 2 passport photos attached with name written on the back side.

    - I-693 Medical examination form

    - I-693A vaccination supplement

    - I-864 Affidavit of Support

    - I-864 Supporting Documents (tax return for 2006, 2007 and 2008), (Pay stubs +W2 for proof of income).

    - I-765 Application for work permit

    - I-131 Application for travel document

  4. Hi Moonhunt!

Thanks for your input^^ Your right! Because Community College costs like $200 per unit. but once he has his Social Security # i think he's able to register as a residence rate. I have to look into them....

But I thought about maybe putting him in adult school>?< i don't know if he would feel so out of place though...

He really has a lot of pride** and he had such a great status and job back in Seoul... he's taking his time in adjusting^^

Sigh** just wish this was easier ~~

Your right... about the DMV. Actually he has a korean international drivers license and he can drive.. but he refuses to because he feels that his name is not on my insurance yet =(...

anyhow... i guess now we are finally together and faces all new challenges together.

  5. My fiance and I went into the SS office - with his passport and I 94- although we had just finished applying for a marriage license but not yet married because we haven't had our ceremony yet... the SS office said, she needs to create a SSN for my fiance and then she gave us a receipt and said, the SSN will be mailed to us in 2-3 weeks.

In your case, it really doesn't make sense. You should be able to get a SSN as long as your I94 is not expired.

  6. 21f - Enter the number of lawful permanent residents whomyou are currently obligated to support based on your previoussubmission of Form I-864 as a petitioning, substitute, or jointsponsor, or of Form I-864EZ as a petitioning sponsor. Includeonly those persons who have already immigrated to the UnitedStates. Do not include anyone for whom your obligation tosupport has ended through the sponsored immigrant'sacquisition of U.S. citizenship, death, abandonment of lawfulpermanent residence in the United States, acquisition of 40quarters of earned or credited work in the United States, orobtaining a new grant of adjustment of status while in removalproceedings based on a new affidavit of support, if one isrequired.

IF it ended in divorce... SHOULD i still include him?

  7. If you have sponsored any other persons on an I-864 or I-864 EZwho are now lawful permanent residents, enter the number here.

I have sponsored an X husband to transfer from a F 1 Visa to AOS back in 2001. Do i write 1 ? if i have once filled out the I864 form before ?

He did obtain a conditional green card....

Should i add him on this line? If so, it would increase household size by 1 more person? Although we are completely irrelevant to one another?

  8. We went to the social security office after 1 week of arrival. The SS office representative created a NEW SSN for fiance. She gave us a receipt and said we will receive our SSN in the mail in 2-3 weeks.

I don't think you have to wait 2 weeks. She told me the ones that had to wait are CR1 or ones that enter which is already a GC holder... then they system automatically generates one SSN for them.

  9. Has any of you married in California -Los Angeles County before? The County Clerk's office said it takes 8-10 weeks to receive our official marriage license, would it really take THAT long? I know there is an express envelope we can submit for $17.50. Does anyone know anything about this?

Another question is: When we submit the AOS documents do we include the ORIGINAL marriage certificate or COPY of the Certified Marriage Certificate?

For the Check Amount $930 + $80, is it on 2 separate checks?

What is the title made out on the check to?

  10. Hey Guys!

Fiance is finally here, we didn't wait 2 weeks because he is too anxious to get his driver's license to get on his feet and drive around. We went to the Social Security office yesterday and ... the lady said, k1 visa's don't automatically generate a social security number at the POE. Basically, we didn't need to wait 2 weeks --- because she have to generate a new social security number. She gave us a receipt and said we will receive our social security # in the mail in 2-3 weeks.

We also went to the DMV yesterday... we live in Los Angeles.. and the DMV representative said, as long as we have a SSN and clears in their system, he's able to obtain a driver's license.

Anyhow, wondering if any of you have similar experience?

    Did i do everything correctly?

  11. Update with our case =) Fiance FINALLY arrived in LAX =) The officer was definitely not kind, he asked him 6 questions and went through our packet one page after another and read through everything carefully. anyhow after a LONG 1 hour wait outside the terminal... i was finally reunited with my fiance. One thing interesting is that he kept his xRay. I wonder why? For some reason i thought xRay goes with the medical to the homeland security again?

  12. For us, we tried to see eachother every 2 month starting the beginning of our relationship. Then, it really got really costly... all the money i saved up to buy a house basically went into flight and hotels and phone bills. Thankfully, he proposed and we started our K1 visa process... we saw eachother in March again but its been 4 months since.... Its really difficult... We make it work by talking on the phone. I would purchase phone cards and he would call me on his internet phone from home.

I kept a small diary of my ups and downs of my emotions being apart from him for 4 month.. i think its something nice to reflect back to - seeing how strong our love can be-

I totally know what your going through, another reason we didn't want to see eachother until he actually moves to LA is because we don't want the sad goodbyes at airports anymore. We would both cry and then the next few days after is basically hell....

I say, start planning for the future. Planning and looking forward to the future is the motivation to be happier & hopeful.

  14. Hoffy there is a timeline on South Korea application, you can see that on average it takes from 3 - 5 month between noa 1 and noa 2. The good news is, once everything passes through USCIS NOA 2 and goes through NVC... and package arrives at the Seoul Embassy... everything is super fast from there on. There is virtually NO waiting for interview dates. If you have your paper work documents ready... interview can be scheduled right away. My fiance only needed 1 day to receive his visa. Everything's super efficient.

    Good luck!
